Fontenelle Forest
Decades ago, a group of citizens came together for one purpose, to create a privately owned park that contains the largest tract of unbroken native forest in Nebraska and includes the most beautiful scenery in the state. The Fontenelle Forest Guild is a volunteer group dedicated to preserving Fontenelle Forest's properties and promoting its educational initiatives. The Guild plays a vital role in advancing a and supporting the Fontenelle Forest mission.
Fontenelle Forrest Trails
Spent a few hours walking some trails at Fontenelle Forrest with my GoPro camera set to time lapse. The video was still pretty fast so I slowed it down a little bit. The trails were great, not a lot of animal activity but didn't run in to a single person!
Bellevue Nebraska - The Visit
Bellevue, Nebraska
Bellevue (French for beautiful view) is a city in Sarpy County, Nebraska, about eight miles south of Omaha. The population was 50,137 at the 2010 census. Originally settled in the 1830s, Bellevue was the first state capitol. Bellevue was incorporated in 1855 and is the oldest continuous town in Nebraska. Places to see in ( Omaha - USA )
Places to see in ( Omaha - USA )
Omaha is a city in the U.S. state of Nebraska, on the Missouri River close to the Iowa border. A stop on the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail, it's known for its pioneer history, museums and cultural centers. The Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium spearheads conservation work and features a big cat complex as well as indoor jungle, rainforest and desert habitats.
Omaha is a unique city, as it has the highest number of millionaires per capita in the nation. Conversely, it also has one of the highest rates of African Americans living under the poverty line. It is still quite racially divided, with the affluent west side and Midtown being predominantly white, the south side Latino, and the northeast side African American. Residents are universally friendly and polite, and Omaha has a well-deserved reputation for hospitality.
Omaha has many unique landmarks. Malcom X Birthsite is in North Omaha. His home no longer exists, but a marker stands on his former address. Joslyn Castle, as it is known, is the Scottish-Baronial style home of two of Omaha's most respected citizens and boasts four stories and 35 rooms. Tours are available to the public. Mormon Trail Center has various monuments, including part of the route the Mormons took. The site known as the Winter Quarters marks the pioneers' winter camp of 1846, and 359 Mormons are buried in a nearby cemetery. Gerald R. Ford Birth Site and Gardens pay homage to the late U.S. president. Twice destroyed by fire, the gardens stand where his house was. 'Boys Town' has a small museum and you can drive through it for free.
Be careful if you're planning a quick pit stop in Omaha. Home to the brick-and-cobblestoned Old Market neighborhood, a booming riverfront, a lively music scene and several good museums, this town can turn a few hours into a few days. Omaha grew to prominence as a transport hub. Its location on the Missouri River and proximity to the Platte River made it an important stop on the Oregon, California and Mormon Trails, and later the Union Pacific Railroad stretched west from here. These days Omaha is in the nation's top 10 for billionaires and Fortune 500 companies per capita. Money pours back into the city in spectacular ways thanks to several wealthy benefactors (including Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett).
