We started our Indian street food tour in Kolkata by warming up with a nice Indian breakfast, right on the street corner. You can order samosas, potato curry chickpea sabzi, jalebi, and hot tea as well. All of these go so well in the morning and wake you up and get you ready to start your day.
After that amazing Indian street breakfast, we went to try perhaps the most beautiful and photogenic Indian street food lunch stall I've ever seen. It really was like walking up to CURRY HEAVEN! There were so many delicious curries to choose from, and there was a huge pot of CHICKEN biryani right on the street. The Chicken looked so tender and you could see the steam and all the juices were infused into the basmati rice. You could also smell the cardamom in the biryani!
After that life changing Indian curry meal, we made our way to try a bunch more delicious street foods. There were so many to choose from!

To start our street food tour, we woke up early in the morning to have an Indian Breakfast, an Indian street food breakfast! We went to a local tea shop to have some chai tea and a super delicious potato curry, known as a sabzi, and a flavourful kachori to dip it in! Watching the Indian restaurants and street food stalls like this in action, preparing and cooking the Indian recipes that have been done like this for generations is simply amazing!
After tasting that saffron and sugar packed chai, along with the amazing potato vegetarian curry, we kept exploring the back streets of Kolkata to try and eat the best street foods of Kolkata.
Here, you can travel to India just for the food, and that's exactly what we did!
After the tea, we went to find some classic Bengali street foods on the street corners, and found a super flavourful bhel puri AKA puffed rice with a spicy mango chutney! This was actually very sour and spicy and so delicious!
We then continued traveling in Kolkata's busy and spice scented streets for more delicious foods, and found the amazing hot kathi roll.
This is marinated chicken in a ton of spice and yoghurt, wrapped up in a freshly fried paratha that's covered in a couple eggs, almost like an omelette, a HUGE omelette over top of the paratha! Then the paratha is wrapped up right on the street and you can taste the amazing flavors!
After that, we enjoyed a walk through the busy streets of Kolkata and made our way to deckers lane, the most iconic heritage street food mecca of Kolkata, to try an amazing and spice packed chicken stew. It was quite peppery and delicious!
After a quick walk and one street orange juice later, we arrived at Arsalan biryani rice and curry Indian restaurant to taste the famous mutton biryani and also try the amazing selection of spicy Indian curries. These bengali specialties were simply delicious, a MUST try thing here in Kolkata.
Here are the addresses for the street food locations we tried in Kolkata:
1) Street Chai Tea with Aloo Vegetarian Curry at ATS Arun Tea Stall
2) Bhel Puri puffed spicy rice snack - New Market area street stall
3) Kolkata's Famous Kathi Roll at Kusum's Roll on Park Street, Kolkata
4) Famous Chicken soup on Deckers lane
5) Amazingly Fresh Orange juice right on the street right near KC Das Sweet Shop
6) HUGE Bengali Indian restaurant dinner - Featuring Bengali Biryani spiced rice and a ton of delicious curry dishes - at ARSALAN park Circus

Incredible BENGALI Indian FOOD TOUR - Seafood, Deviled Egg and Sweets | Kolkata, India
When I went back to India in November of 2018, I had no idea how magical and enthralling my trip would be. I visited even more incredible locations than before, had some life-changing experiences, and discovered new dishes that blew me away. And I got to experience it all with my buddy Sam from Samuel & Audrey!

For lunch on our second day in Kolkata, the sixth Indian city on our epic, seven-city adventure, Sam and I headed out on a mind-blowing Bengali Indian food tour! Come along with us as we try some Bengali seafood, sweets, and more!
My Film Making Kit ►
We started at Victoria Memorial, a building that was erected between 1906 and 1921 to honor Queen Victoria. The memorial is a remnant of the British occupation of India, and Kolkata (then known as Calcutta) was the capital of British India for two centuries. The memorial is a beautiful example of British Colonial architecture.
Then, we met up with our new friend Navpreet, who runs Fun On Streets, a company that offers tours that highlight Kolkata’s food, history, architecture, arts, and culture. Together, we visited the largest second-hand book market in Asia along College Street, one of the city’s oldest and most chaotic areas, before heading off to Swadhin Bharat Hindu Hotel, for some authentic Bengali food!
After having some water in clay cups, we ordered a fish stomach dish (Chital Peti), a fish dish in gravy (Ilish), thinly-cut fried potatoes (Aloo Bhaja), a lentil dish (Mung Daal), rice, and a sweet-and-sour mango chutney palette cleanser.
I started with the Ilish and rice, which was a little salty and pretty mild in terms of spice. It’s a spiny fish, so you have to be careful while eating it! It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it!
Next was the Chital Peti, which was kind of gelatinous, but I loved it. There were some smaller spines hidden throughout it, I had to be very careful (and patient) while picking it apart and eating it. But it was very tasty and salty
Next I tried a heavenly combination of the rice, Mung Daal, and Aloo Bhaja with a squirt of lime, which was heavenly! I followed that with some Ilish gravy with the rice and Mung Daal, which was also fantastic. Fishy and flavorful!
The sweet and salty mango chutney was next and it was insanely delicious. It was very sweet and the perfect palette cleanser. It was so good I drank the sauce and ordered some more!
From there, we walked along College Street to Dilkhusa Cabin, where we tried an enormous, fried, hard-boiled egg with a lot of layers including potato and beet root. It’s known for being spicy and they weren’t kidding! Even with the mustard sauce and accompanying onions, it was very hot. It also had so many different textures that blew my mind!
We saw more of the never-ending book market, which stretches for more than a kilometer, on our way to our final destination of the afternoon, Putiram, where we tried a cottage-cheese-based sweet called Rasgulla, which is a super decadent, spongy, and extremely sweet boiled cottage cheese ball that is soaked in a sugar syrup that was so good that I drank the rest out of the tray! It was a fantastic end to our Bengali food tour!
I hope you enjoyed our mind-blowing Bengali seafood and sweets tour in Kolkata! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. Also, please subscribe to my channel and click the notification bell so you don’t miss any of my upcoming food and travel content!

Hey guys,
Finally, Kolkata food series begins from here! This is the part 1 of Kolkata Food Videos and I am so excited for you guys to see it.
Kolkata is rich in its heritage, diversity, cuisine and hospitality. It was so much fun to explore the city of Joy for 4 days and this is just the beginning. Make sure you stay tuned for rest of the videos and share this one too.
In this video, we start the trail with the iconic Sharma Tea House. The kachoris and chai there is to die for. Then we went to Gupta Brothers to have some sweets and water. Taking a stroll in yellow ambassador cars, we went to two places which are like aan shaan of Kolkata - Victoria Memorial and Nizam's. Nizam's is the place where Chicken Kathi Rolls were invented (as they say).
I had always heard about how the Kolkata Biryani was different than the rest and I had to try it to know. Certainly, using potato in biryani was something new to me. Arsalan Biryani has to be on your list if you come to this city. Ended my day by going to Anadi Cabin. It is an institution in itself. Mughali Parathas and Chicken Cutlet is a real deal here guys.
Lots more coming up in my upcoming videos so stay tuned!
Below are all the places I went to:
Sharma Tea House: 5/6, Sambhunath Pandit St, Bhowanipore, Kolkata, West Bengal 700025
Gupta Brothers: 3, Harish Mukherjee Rd, Patuapara, Bhowanipore, Kolkata, West Bengal 700020
Victoria Memorial: Victoria Memorial Hall, 1, Queens Way, Maidan, Kolkata, West Bengal 700071

Kolkata Street Food - AMAZING Indian Vegetarian Meal on Decker's Lane!
Check out my Indian street food guide to Kolkata street food on my blog:
When I visited India, I went with a main intention to eat, of course. And as soon as I flew into Kolkata, I knew that I was in Indian street food heaven. Kolkata is a giant city, India's third largest, and while it's chaotic and busy in every way imaginable, this makes for an environment where street food is everywhere to be seen.
After doing a little research, I decided to go to a street in Kolkata that's now known as James Hickey Sarani, but is better known by its former name of Deckers Lane. Mention Deckers Lane to most locals in Kolkata, and the most delicious selection of Indian street food will come to their minds. And that is exactly where I wanted to be, and where I found some truly wonderful Indian food in a very nice environment. The street is best during the lunchtime hour when many folks are out on their lunch breaks and hungry. Deckers Lane fills up with people devour plates of food, walking up and down, sipping on clay cups of chai, and motorcycles honking while passing by.
Having not a clue where to eat first, I settled upon a masala dosa stall and that's what I ate (video later). But that was just warm up. After the masala dosa I couldn't help myself from going to the stall that was receiving the most continual flow of customer - there was one stall where there was a huge crowd huddled around eating and waiting for their food and it looked the best. So that's exactly where I went. I got in line, a line that didn't really exist, and finally had the chance to talk to the guy taking order. I first got rice and then under his recommendation had the potato curry, some mixed vegetable curry, and a few pieces of tandoori roti to top things off. I was incredibly excited to start digging into my Kolkata street food feast. The meal was food influenced from north India, rather than local Bengali dishes. It was rich and creamy, and the curries were strong and absolutely flavorful. Using the rice and tandoori roti, I was able to scrape up everything and fully enjoyed every single bite of this meal along Deckers Lane in Kolkata.
The men eating at this street food stall along with me, were all pretty friendly too, particularly the man in the purple sweater who gave me some good tips and named the dishes I ate as he was eating too. You can just see the passion and intense love of the food he has on his face too! So anyway, this was one of my first meals in India, and it proved to be an absolutely delicious meal that I would eat over and over again if I lived in Kolkata. The entire Kolkata street food meal cost me 40 Indian Rupees, which is about $0.72, a pretty decent steal in my opinion!

Kolkata, India, was the first city I visited when I went to India, and after traveling throughout the northern part of the country, Kolkata was one of my favorite cities. It sure is huge and chaotic as you would expect, yet at the same time it's such a fascinating city full of life, culture, and lots of delicious food. Now let's get right into these top 11 things to do in Kolkata, India.
1. Mother Teresa Home - The first thing on the list is the Mother Teresa home which in Kolkata is just known as Mother's Home. It's the location where Mother Teresa lived, worked, and influenced many many people. At the small Catholic mission you can go inside, see Mother's tomb where she's buried and also see the room where she spent much of her time writing and thinking. There's also a small little museum where you can see some of her possessions.
2. Victoria Memorial Hall - Second on the list of top things to do in Kolkata (Calcutta) is the Victoria Memorial Hall which happens to be one of the most important landmarks in the entire city. The outside of the hall, which is built in Victorian style, is surrounded by nice gardens where you can walk around. The entrance to the park is just 4 Rupees. If you choose to go to the inside, the cost is 150 Rupees and you can get into the museum.
3. South Park Street Cemetery - One of the spookiest attractions in Kolkata (Calcutta), is the South Park Street Cemetery, a dark garden that's full of huge tombs. The cemetery is free to enter, though they'll ask your for a donation when you either enter or exit.
4. Khalighat Kali Temple - Dedicated to the Hindu Goddess of Kali, is the most famous and sacred Hindu Temple in Kolkata (Calcutta). The temple is nearly always busy and in order to enter you've got to take off your shoes. Surrounding the temple is a busy market. Be careful when you visit the Kalighat Temple, there are many scams and people people that will ask for donations.
5. New Market - Next on this video list of Kolkata attractions is the New Market, sort of the center of the city with lots of energy. The New Market has an indoor section where you can shop for everything from clothes to electronics, but in my opinion, it's the outdoors area surrounding the market that's the most interesting. Here you'll find food, clothes, fruit, spices, and just about everything else you can possibly imagine. You can also have the opportunity to take a Kolkata human powered rickshaw in this area.
6. Indian Museum - Coming in next is the Indian Museum in Kolkata, one of the original museums in all of India. It's a huge museum and the highlight of the many exhibitions is the Egyptian mummy and numerous other valuable collections. The museum is also known as the Magic House.
7. Belur Math - Located north of the main part of the city is Belur Math, a private temple that's located along the banks of the Hooghly River. The temple is quiet and relaxing, and because they don't allow any videos or photos, I had to take the video from near the gate where they didn't have security.
8. Dakshineswar Kali Temple - Across and upstream the river from Belur Math is the huge Dakshineswar Kali Temple, one of the most famous Hindu temples in Kolkata. It's north of Kolkata, but it's worth a trip there to see the crowds and to see people bathing in the river.
9. Mullik Ghat Flower Market - Next up is the center flower market of Kolkata. The market, which is located below the Howrah Bridge, is just a fascinating sight of moving colorful flowers.
10. Terreti Market - Occupying Sun Yat Sen road, is the early morning Chinese food market which is known as Terreti Bazar. It makes a perfect place to get a morning breakfast of Chinese food when you're in town.
11. Kolkata Street Food - Last but not least for things to do in Kolkata is eat street food. There's a lot to eat and it's mouthwatering good!

TRADITIONAL Bengali INDIAN STREET FOOD Breakfast Tour of Decker Lane | Kolkata, India
When I first visited India in February of 2018, I learned first-hand why the food you can buy along the roadside in the country is often considered some of the best street food in the entire world. So when I went back ten months later, I made Indian street food my top priority and it did not disappoint! My travel buddy Sam from Samuel & Audrey and I ate our way through seven cities in eighteen days!

Our third day in Kolkata began with a morning street food tour of local and traditional breakfast foods in Decker Lane. Come along with us as we continue to explore the sights and flavors of West Bengal!
My Film Making Kit ►
We kicked off our tour with some amazing chai (6 rupees), which was nice and frothy and had a lot of cardamom flavor. It was a great way to start our day!
Our first food of the day was Luchi Ghugni (15 rupees), which is made up of a puri (called a Luchi here in Kolkata) and a moderately spicy curry made up of yellow peas, chickpeas, and potatoes. It was served with a cucumber-carrot salad to calm down the heat and a sweet tamarind chutney on the side. The luchi was very soft and doughy, unlike most puris, which are crispy. The heat from the curry and the sweetness from the chutney balanced each other nicely and the chickpeas were cooked perfectly!
Our next dish was Dhokar Dalna (a dense bar made from fried, compressed lentils in a flavorful curry) with roti. The curry wasn’t spicy at all and the Dhokar Dalna was like a lentil stick! After trying them separately, I rolled the Dhokar Dalna inside a roti and made a taco out of it and it was amazing!
Next up was Egg Toast (20 rupees), which is essentially a piece of toast that’s cooked into an omelet. The bread was puffy and slightly crispy, the egg was fluffy, and the green chilies in the egg added a nice pop of spice. This was my kind of breakfast!
Between dishes, Sam and I got shaves and haircuts at a local shop and then went back to eating!
Next, we stopped at Aaheli Xpress to have several foods, including the fish fry jumbo cutlet; a samosa stuffed with peas, cauliflower and potatoes; a banana flower chop; and mustard salad. The samosa was crunchy and the filling inside was absolutely delicious! It was savory and salty and the mustard sauce added a spicy kick. It was the best samosa I’ve ever had!
The banana flower chop looks like a Cuban croqueta and tastes like one, too! It’s crunchy on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside. It’s packed with flavor and I could definitely taste the banana inside. The tomato ketchup I had it with wasn’t like a regular ketchup. It was hot!
Next was the fish fry, which Anirban explained is like a Bengali take on English fish and chips. It’s a nice, flaky fish with a peppery and crispy breaded crust. It was fantastic with the spicy ketchup and mustard!
This was an amazing breakfast food tour! Sam and I never would have known about Decker Lane if it hadn’t been for Anirban, so shout-out to him for bringing us to this amazing place!
I hope you enjoyed watching our traditional breakfast street food tour of Decker Lane in Kolkata! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. Also, please subscribe to my channel and click the notification bell so you don’t miss any of my upcoming food and travel content!

You may plan lunch or dinner at any of those restaurant. We visited 2 restaurant in China Town and had chinese food there.
This place is part of Kolkata only, so you don’t have to go far, half an hour drive from Indian museum.
Few years back there were tanneries in this area but now those units have been force shut by government, First appearance of China town looks shabby, like not well maintained or not clean but restaurants have done their bit on hygiene.
