Luang Prabang is an amazing historical city in Laos, and it also happens to be an amazing city for food. You’ll find an array of incredible Lao food to experience.
Morning Market - One of the best places to get started eating Lao street food in Luang Prabang is the morning market. It’s low-key, relaxing, the vendors are incredibly friendly, and there’s so much delicious food to try. From wild grilled beehive to khao piak sen noodles, the food is so good, it’s hard to ever go anywhere else when you’re in Luang Prabang. The food highlight for me was the grilled honey comb, since it was so rare and unique. Additionally, you’ll have a blast checking out all the ingredient at the market. Here’s what I ate:
Grilled beehive - 5,000 LAK ($0.60)
Mung bean cake - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 2
Naem
Khao gee - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) for 3
Noodle rolls - 10,000 LAK ($1.20
Khao piak sen - 15,000 LAK ($1.80) per bowl
Phosi Market - One of the biggest markets in Luang Prabang is Phosi Market. Unfortunately there wasn’t much pre-cooked food when we went there in the middle of the day, but luckily we found some amazing food.
Sai oua - Sai oua is the northern Laos version of sausage, and it’s a life-changer. This stall served some of the best sausage, not only that I’ve had in Laos, but in the world. You’ll find sai oua all over Luang Prabang. Price - 10,000 LAK ($1.20) each
Sticky rice feast - I desperately wanted a Luang Prabang sticky rice meal for lunch, so eventually after walking around a little we found the perfect spot. She had a variety of different Lao food stews to choose from and they all look great. All the dishes were delicious, but the best Lao food of the meal for me was the bowl of aw bon (or bon) - made from taro leaves.
Total price - 40,000 LAK ($4.79)
Finally, for dinner to finish off this Luang Prabang street food tour, we headed to the evening market, located perpendicular to the night market walking street. We ordered a Mekong fish and then some very interesting Lao dishes from the curry stall. The algae salad was particularly interesting and delicious.
Fish - 80,000 LAK ($9.58), farmed fish were considerably cheaper
Dinner total - 60,000 LAK ($7.18)
It was an amazing day exploring Lao street food in Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is a food paradise.

Luang Prabang is an amazing heritage and beautiful city in Laos. The streets are relaxing and charming, the view of the Mekong River are impressive, and the food and coffee is delicious.
Here's just a quick and simple Luang Prabang travel guide about the hotel I stayed at, a few things to do like visit the morning market, and having a great cup of coffee at Saffron overlooking the river.
Phounsab Guesthouse: (this is an affiliate link, if you book from my link I'll earn a small commission, but I recommend things I personally did) - I paid $51 per night for our room. Overall, great clean hotel, and the location was perfect.
Later on in the trip we also stayed at Apple Guesthouse: - another wonderful choice that has more of a family guesthouse feel to it.
Hope you have an amazing trip to Luang Prabang, enjoy walking around, the food, and the coffee!

Laotian Food Tour - POOP FISH CHILI DIP and Khao Soi in Luang Prabang, Laos!
►MAP of everything we did:
►SUBSCRIBE for 2 new videos per week:
►T-shirts and caps available now:
NOTE: Jaew Kee Pa - the best dish of the day, literally translates to Chili Poop Fish. However, I don't think there's any poop in the dip, but it mostly consisted of fish eggs. The name however, is true, and it's the dish the owner told us, if you haven't eaten it, YOU haven't been to Luang Prabang yet.
We set off in the morning to have an ultimate one day in Luang Prabang - and it turned out to indeed be one of the best days of our time in the city. Luang Prabang is a gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage city, full of culture, natural beauty and delicious food.
In this Luang Prabang food and travel guide video you’ll find all the best Lao food and things to do, that we did in this one singe fantastic day. You can see all the details in this blog post to:
Mount Phousi - Right in the heart of Luang Prabang is Mount Phousi, and it’s one of the best places to get an birds eye view of Luang Prabang, especially at sunrise. We headed off at about 6 am. Price - 10,000 LAK ($1.20)
Pho / Khao Soi Wat Sen - One of the ultimate Lao dishes to eat when you’re in Luang Prabang is khao soi, a noodle dish of wonders that’s one of the most soothing breakfast options. Just across the street from Wat Sen, or Wat Sene temple, is a local spot that’s known to serve some of the best khao soi in the city. Khao soi - 20,000 LAK ($2.39)
Saffron Coffee - There’s no better place to drink a cup of coffee in Luang Prabang than Saffron. Not only is their coffee amazing, but they source all local Luang Prabang beans from sustainable sources, normally local families that grow the beans.
Americano large - 20,000 LAK ($2.39)
Sai oua - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) per piece - Not a day goes by in Luang Prabang, Laos, that we didn’t have some sai oua, the Laotian version of an herb sausage. Her version is indeed one of the best I’ve ever had in my life.
Som Tam - Papaya Salad Restaurant - Right in the old heritage center of Luang Prabang old town is this Lao papaya salad restaurant. You’ll find a full menu of different pounded Lao foods, all of which are pretty good. Her green papaya salad was a little on the sweeter side, but her dried meats were phenomenal.
Total price- 155,000 LAK ($18.53)
Soop pak - with cashew tree leaves - Additionally, across the street we found an Aunty who was cooking soop pak, a Lao dish, this time with cashew tree leaves. It was the highlight of the meal.
Wat Xieng Thong - 20,000 LAK ($2.39) - One of the top temples to visit in Luang Prabang is Wat Xieng Thong, one of the most important temples in Laos. It’s well worth a visit, and it’s located at the end of the Luang Prabang peninsula.
Xieng Thong Phonsavahn Restaurant - This was not only the greatest meal of the day, but this was one of the best Lao food meals I had in all of Luang Prabang. It’s a gem of a restaurant, located right along the Mekong river. You’ll find Mekong river fish mixed into salads like koi pa, and a dish called jaew kee pa - a mix of chilies and fish eggs to eat with sticky rice. The owner told us, if you haven’t eaten jaew kee pa, “you haven’t been to Luang Prabang yet.” And he was so right!
Total price - 210,000 LAK ($25.10)
Luang Prabang Night Market - One of the top things to do in Luang Prabang as written everywhere is walk around the Luang Prabang night market. I have to say, it’s a great place to walk around, and the shakes are always good.
Shake - 15,000 LAK ($1.79)
This was an ultimate Lao food and things to do tour in Luang Prabang. You can see the full itinerary here:

Lao Street Food - GIANT STICKY RICE Feast and Stuffed Chili Fish in Vientiane, Laos!

Lao Street Food Tour in Vientiane, Laos - Laos is an amazing country for food lovers, and there’s no better way to start sampling street food than to visit a local market in Vientiane.
Khua Din Market - This is one of the most bustling morning markets in Vientiane. You’ll discover an ocean of fresh ingredients available in the parking lot before 8 am. But for cooked food, I found some of the best stalls in the tented section at the back of the market - there you’ll find a few stalls serving all things Lao food - a place to have a Lao sticky rice feast.
Sausage - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) - First at the market we stopped for a quick Luang Prabang sausage, known as sai oua. They are so good, the beef in my opinion was tastier than the beef.
For our sticky rice Lao feast throwdown, we ordered a bunch of different dishes and all ate them together. We had some stews, some jaew, sticky rice, a few grilled items, and the highlight for me was a stuffed fish. Total price - 117,000 LAK ($14.00)
Sandwich - 5,000 LAK ($0.60) - On the outside of Khua Din Market in Vientiane you’ll find a few stalls selling khao gee pate, the Laos version of French baguette sandwiches with pate and toppings. They are not the best quality, but for 5,000 kip, they are a bargain and really do taste pretty good.
Evening Cooked Food Market - For this Vientiane street food tour, in the evening we headed to Ban Anou Night Market, a peaceful evening market where you’ll find a good selection of Lao food.
Khao Piak Sen - First we had a bowl of khao piak sen. Total price - 15,000 LAK ($1.80)
Next we had some stew dishes, and an order of green papaya salad, all of which were delicious. Total price - 65,000 LAK ($7.78)
Finally to end this Lao street food tour of Vientiane, Joel and I enjoyed some wonderful dried beef. Price - 10,000 LAK ($1.20)
Thank you for watching this Lao street food tour!

My FAVORITE RESTAURANT in Luang Prabang, Laos!
#laofoodmovement #papayasaladluangprabang #laofood
I'd call it the best restaurant in Luang Prabang, Laos, but how do you judge if something is the best, really?
I've visited many restaurants in Luang Prabang, from high end to not high end at all and Papaya Salad Restaurant is my favorite! This place is very simple, and you can pretty much call it a hole in the whole. A lot of why Papaya Salad Restaurant is my favorite has to do with the fact that I LOVE papaya salad and this place has the best papaya salad ever. The owner makes the papaya salad herself and her padaek is top notch. Also, Luang Prabang style papaya salad is my favorite. I love the wide shreds of fresh papaya - crunching and deeelicious!
Besides the papaya salad, the sai ouah (Lao sausage), shredded pork and fried fish were also terrific. Check this place out if you're in Luang Prabang, but don't let the secret out - this place is already starting to get crowded! :)

What To Expect When Visiting Luang Prabang, Laos | Street Food I Night Market
After three days and two nights we arrived in Luang Prabang, where we explore the main street that offers a night market, that stretches from one side of the road to the other (It's never ending). We find where they sell all the street food, including a fill your plate buffet type food. There's a variety of interesting food that is sold here and some of it I'd be cautious to buy it.

Best LAO COFFEE Experience + Best CONGEE Breakfast | Luang Prabang, Laos
#laoocean #travellaos #laocoffee
We visited Pasaneyom Coffee Shop in Luang Prabang, which offers the best best Lao coffee experience and and bowl of congee around. A terrific simple Lao breakfast next to the Mekong and a perfect start of the day before checking out the Morning Market across the street afterwards!
This popular coffee shop has been around to decades and it can get quite busy, but if you can cope with the crowd and at times slow service once you're seated you'll be rewarded with one of the best Lao coffee and breakfast experiences ever. Be sure to add an egg to your congee and don't be shy about dunking your Chinese doughnut in the congee or coffee!

Village Food in Laos - SPICY CHILI WOOD and AUTHENTIC KHMU FOOD in Luang Prabang!

►T-shirts and caps available now:
►Highly recommend White Elephant Adventures:
During our trip to Luang Prabang, one of my goals was to experience authentic Laos culture. So we set off on a 2 day excursion, into the mountains, not too far from Luang Prabang. The first day we’d spend learning about the Khmu culture and eating local authentic Khmu food. The next day, we’d move onto a Hmong village to eat Hmong food.
We met up with Alex and his team from White Elephant Adventures ( This is not sponsored, I paid in full for this tour, but Alex and his team were gracious to really set us up with a custom tour about food and culture. I highly recommend them for off the beaten path, authentic culture tours in Luang Prabang.
It wasn’t too long of a drive, and we stopped at a variety of markets along the way, but we eventually made it to the Khmu village. It happened to be the village of our guide. It was a gorgeous village, by the river. For lunch we had some simple bamboo shoot mixtures wrapped in banana leaf and steamed. Khmu mainly eat sticky rice.
After lunch we walked around, took a swim in the river, and just hung out, waiting for the dinner festivities.
We purposefully didn’t really make too much of a plan, because we wanted to just see what unfolded naturally at the village. They decided to butcher a small pig for the village and for the evening festivities. They also planned a baci ceremony - a Laos ceremony of blessing, which was an amazing experience and left me feeling so incredibly welcome.
Anyway, after the afternoon swim, the men got started butchering the pig and parting off each piece of meat - serious nose to tail dining - to the person who was designated to cook each different dish. What was amazing to me is that everyone in the community had a role, and each worked diligently for the greater community.
There were so many different local Khmu Lao foods being prepared that I could hardly keep up. But one of the most interesting dishes for me was the or lam, a well know Lao Khmu dish, but this version unlike anything I had tried before. One of the single most amazing ingredient is spicy chili wood - it’s actually a vine that grows in the jungle, and it is really spicy and makes your tongue tingle.
The baci ceremony was spectacular, the meal of all things pig with the community was special, and at the end of the night the children from the village sang us a couple of songs.
It was a fantastic day, delicious authentic and fresh Lao Khmu food, and an incredible time to learn about Khmu culture, and interact with the community.

►Highly recommend White Elephant Adventures:
This is Day 2 of our food culture trip in Laos, if you haven’t seen Khmu Food Part 1, you can watch it here:
We woke up naturally to the sounds in the early morning and sat around and hung out, just enjoying the fresh cool are. We strolled around the Khmu village for a little while before we packed up and headed to a Hmong village not too far away.
When I reached out to you during my trip to Laos and asked you for suggestions one what I should eat or cover, many of you said I should try Hmong food. Now Hmong restaurant are not that common, so the best way to eat Hmong food is to go to a local family home and have them cook. Along with Alex from White Elephant Adventures ( he was able to arrange it for us.
Our Hmong meal was buffalo, all types and variations. The two main and favorite Hmong food dishes they made were raw buffalo with a huge amount of bile, and cooked buffalo with raw blood. We also had some buffalo stew, soup, and roasted buffalo.
Probably the most fascinating thing to me about Hmong culture and food as opposed to most of Laos is that Hmong typically eat white steamed rice as opposed to sticky rice. And unlike just about every other culture I’ve witnessed in Asia, where you get your own bowl of rice and share all the side dishes, in Hmong culture you have a communal bowl of rice and share everything. It may seem different to Western culture, but it really brings out a sense of family and community.
The food was awesome, all things buffalo. I especially liked the raw buffalo with bile, that was the best Hmong food of the meal.
It was an amazing day and I learned a lot about Hmong food, a quick introduction. Thank you for watching!
