MOST EXPENSIVE STREET IN THE WORLD | EXPLORING CHAMPAGNE REIMS FRANCE
We were surprised to find the most expensive street in the world in the Champagne region around Reims France.
Reims is a city in France close to Paris, so a perfect side-trip from Paris. Reims in North-Eastern France was a major city during the Roman Empire. Later it became a traditional site for the crowning of Kings. Moreover, many of the largest champagne-producing houses have their headquarters here - in fact, champagne ages in the many caves and tunnels under the city.

In this video we explore areas around Reims, go on a Champagne tasting and cave tour as well as the Notre Dame Cathedral. Notre-Dame de Reims (Our Lady of Reims) is a Roman Catholic church in Reims, France. It is the seat of the Archdiocese of Reims, where the kings of France were crowned. The cathedral replaced an older church, destroyed by fire in 1211, that was built on the site of the basilica where Clovis was baptized by Saint Remi, bishop of Reims, in AD 496. That original structure had itself been erected on the site of some Roman baths. A major tourism destination, the cathedral receives about one million visitors annually.

CHAMPAGNE DAY – Epernay, France Champagne Tour
YAY! It’s champagne day!
Today, we splurged on an all-day champagne tour with France Bubbles Tour. We used this same tour company for a champagne tour in Reims, France during our honeymoon. But, this time we are touring Epernay, France!
Throughout the day, we stopped at three different champagne houses to taste many of their champagnes, learn about their history and explore their facilities & vineyards.
We also had the chance to stop in Hautvillers, which is a small, but charming town near Epernay. The Hautvillers Abbey is where Dom Perignon spent the majority of his time and it’s his burial place.
We had so much fun on this tour and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great experience in Epernay or Reims.
Enjoy the video and we’ll see you in our next one as we keep GOING PLACES!

Located at 12 Rue du Temple, Reims, France, Veuve Clicquot is recognized as the oldest ‘modern’ champagne houses. Founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot-Mulron, Veuve Clicquot is credited with making champagne the wine of choice for the bourgeoisie and royalty. The 1811 Comet Vintage of Veuve Clicquot is recognized as the first modern champagne vintage.
The son of Philippe Clicquot-Mulron married Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin in 1798. He died in 1805 leaving his bride in charge of the Company. Madame Clicquot, the first woman to take over a champagne house, continued the innovations in champagne production instituted by her Father-In-Law and Husband. She is credited with the biggest breakthrough in champagne production that led to its mass production, the rising rack. The Veuve Clicquot is sad to have made the first rosé champagne, and Madame Clicquot receives the accolades for perfecting it.
Madame Clicquot working in tandem with her cellar master, Antoine de Muller, immersed herself in the production of champagne and was a marketing expert in her time. She saw to it that the royal courts throughout Europe had access to her champagnes making it a sought-after wine across the continent. To this day Veuve Clicquot is distinguished by its yellow label, the same label that kings and queens recognized.
In 1987 the Veuve Clicquot brand of quality champagne was purchased by the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Group.
On your visit to Reims, France a visit to the large centuries old cellars of Veuve Clicquot is in order. This famed House of Champagne offers three different public tours as well as seven private tours by reservation. Each of the public and private tours explore distinct aspects of this pioneering champagne house and all end with a tasting of selected vintages. The public tours are limited to the number of persons on each tour, although reservations are not required, they are highly recommended as most tours are booked to captivity.
The Public Tours include ON THE FOOTSTEPS OF MADAME CLICQUOT, a history and discovery of the First Lady of Champagne that concludes with a tasting of the famous Brut Yellow Label cuvee and cuvée La Grande Dame, a vintage honoring Madame Clic1quot. This is a 1 hour and 45-minute tour and is limited to 15 persons.
Another popular Public Tour is VEUVE CLICQUOT AND ROSE CHAMPAGNE, in which the 200-year-old history of the famed Rose Champagne perfected by Madam Clicquot is explored. The tour is a one-hour tour with a maximum of 19 persons.
The DICOVERY public tour offers an overview of the Veuve Clicquot House of Champagne where you will discover the heritage and the processes involved in making the cuvées at this oldest Champagne House. This tour is an hour and a half, limited to 19 persons and culminates with a tasting of Brut Yellow Label cuvee.
Private Tours of Veuve Clicquot are more extensive and MUST be booked in advance. The MADAME CLICQUOT, examines the life of this champagne innovator, marketer and expert champagne maker. You will delve into her life from her birth in Reims in 1777 to her recognition as the first lady of champagne. This is a three-hour Private Tour limited to 15 persons and culminating with tasting of Veuve Clicquot Yellow label and the prestigious cuvee La grande Dame, in a private lounge.
Another three-hour Private Tour explores the vineyards that were originally planted in 1772. This tour titled, VIGNOBLE is also limited to 15 persons and climaxes with the tasting of our Yellow label and our rosé non-vintage.
Other Private Tours include VIGNOBLE PLUS, VIGNOBLE A VELO, and DISCOVERY, all lasting in the three-hour range and explores distinct aspects of the First Champagne House in detail. The ultimate Private Tour is ONE DAY WITH VEUVE CLICQUOT. This is a truly customized private tour for special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries or even proposals. The team at House Veuve Clicquot will work with you to create a truly customized full day experience roaming the Crayères. This tour includes customized tastings that may include comparative tasting, petits fours, old vintages tasting.
Other Tours at the Veuve Clicquot include CELLIER SAINT-PETERSBOURG AND MANOIR DE VERZY, limited schedule, and MANOIR DE VERZY, also on a limited schedule.
As a founding Champagne House in Reims, France, it is a sponsor to sporting and social events throughout the year. In 2013 Veuve Clicquot partnered with culinary artist Joël Robuchon to create pairings of the best in Champagne with the Best in culinary excellence. Throughout France and the world Veuve Clicquot wines will be the guests of honor in all Joël Robuchon restaurants. Hosts at Veuve Clicquot will help you find the culinary adventure that pairs best with the Champagnes of Royalty.

Champagne Tour of Taittinger Cellars in Reims. The guide was not only beautiful but an eloquent orator and clearly answered questions. The champagne was wonderful. I tasted several. My favorite was the 2012 vintage bottle which I had the good fortune to bring home to Cusco. If you love champagne like I do I hope you get to experience this amazing and exquisite champagne from Taittinger in Reims, France

L'Assiette Champenoise | 5 Star Hotel in Reims, Champagne
One of my favorite hotels and one of the best around Reims, Champagne (France).
L'Assiette Champenoise is my favorite hotel in Reims area.
The rooms are modern but the building traditional.
The breakfast is scrumptious and if you have the opportunity to try the 3 start Michelin restaurant, I highly recommend it. It is one of the best restaurants I know worldwide.

A Private Tour and Champagne Tasting at La Maison Pannier
We visit La Maison Pannier, a select champagne house with a labyrinth of medieval underground cellars, for a tour and a private tasting.
What is hotel barging?
Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especiallly on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Most hotel barges started life as cargo vessels but have since been painstakingly converted to offer luxury boutique accommodation for small groups of up to 20 passengers.
This is cruising, but in a very different style to ships plying the big rivers or oceans. The pace is slow, with a 6 day cruise covering maybe just 50 miles along a rural canal. Passengers can walk or bike the towpaths as their floating hotel glides gently along. Guests enjoy an intimate atmosphere, high levels of personal service and immersion into the culture, history and gastronomy of regions of Europe such as Burgundy, the Midi, or the Italian Veneto.
Every day there is an excursion, perhaps to a chateau, a vineyard for a wine tasting, or some other ‘off the beaten track’ location. About half of European Waterways’ bookings are for whole boat charters, ideal for families. Otherwise, clients book a cabin to join other like-minded people. A ‘slow boat’ European Waterways barge cruise offers the ultimate in experiential travel. A truly unique experience!
European Waterways offer luxury hotel barge cruises on the beautiful canals and rivers of Europe, such as through Burgundy, the Midi, Alsace, the Po Valley, Holland and the Scottish Highlands.
The exclusive collection of hotel barges accommodate up to 20 passengers who may charter a whole barge with family or friends, or join a small group of like-minded travellers on an individual cabin basis.
Each barge is fully crewed with a Captain, chef, hostesses, deck-hand and tour guide. The 6-night cruises include gourmet meals, fine wines, open bar, excursions and the use of facilities such as bicycles and spa pools.

Champagne Tasting in Epernay France - Charles Mignon
Let's taste some champagne in Épernay, France! We'll take the SNCF train from Paris Gare de l'Est to Gare d'Épernay. The trip takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes and then we'll have a 20 minute walk to Champagne Charles Mignon. We tour the cellars and then do a blind taste test to see who can tell the difference between champagne Rosé and the non-Rosé brut champagne. We had a wonderful time!

Our Top 10 Meals - #2 Almond Croissants in Reims, France
Only ONE sweet treat made our Top 10 list and here it is.
Almond (amande) croissants at Pains Jaurès in Reims, France. Even the worst almond croissant is heavenly and this is the best we've ever had. So good, it ruined Tim for all the croissants we ate the next 5 weeks in France.
Their baguettes were also our favorites. Clearly, a little sparkle of magic has landed on Pains Jaurès.
Reims isn't too far from Paris. Head over for a champagne tour (#5 on our list) and grab this crave-worthy croissant.
