Swedish Food in Stockholm: Melt-In-Your-Mouth Dill Cured Salmon!

Day 18: Stockholm, Sweden - This was a Stockholm food tour day. We started by visiting a couple of well known Swedish food halls, and then ate some more delicious Swedish food. It was an amazing day of visiting Stockholm!
00:25 Swedish breakfast at Courtyard Marriott - The Courtyard Marriott hotel in Stockholm had an impressive display of breakfast foods including plenty of Swedish food in the buffet as well. So we started off the day with breakfast at our hotel before starting off.
5:03 Hötorgshallen Food Hall - After walking around Stockholm for a while and fully enjoying the views of the city and the water, we made our way over to Hötorgshallen Food Hall, one of the Swedish food destinations on this Stockholm food tour day. After contemplating what to eat for a while, I settled on eating at a place called Melanders Fisk that specializes in seafood. Ying had the poached salmon and I had a the dill cured salmon (gravad lax). It was impressively good, the salmon was melt in your mouth tender and it was served with a side of potatoes as well. I also had toast skagen which are shrimp over toast. It’s one of my favorite Swedish foods. Total price - 370 SEK ($43.32)
12:32 Östermalmshallen Food Hall - Another legendary food hall in Stockholm is the gourmet Östermalmshallen Food Hall. It’s been around since 1888, but they’ve been doing renovation on the original market for the last couple years, so it’s a temporary market for now. The market has a lot of similar restaurants and gourmet food stalls as Hötorgshallen, and there’s no shortage of amazing looking food. After walking around for a while, since we had just eaten, I chose to buy some moose sausage, which was pretty good.
15:49 Östermalms Korvspecialist - Next stop on this Stockholm food tour is Östermalms Korvspecialist which is just a short walk from Östermalmshallen Food Hall and they specializes in marevelous sausages. I ordered the kabanoss, a spicy sausage filled into a baguette and seasoned with mustard and sauerkraut. It was a truly delicious sausage, I loved it. Kabanoss - 60 SEK ($7.02)
18:36 Gamla Stan - Gamla Stan is Old Stockholm and it’s filled with narrow medieval lanes, shops and restaurants, and it’s just a great place to walk around and explore. We stopped at the German Church and I just enjoyed the atmosphere and just walking around on foot.
21:44 Nystekt Strömming - When I asked you where to eat in Stockholm, one of the top places I was recommended over and over was Nystekt Strömming, a food stall that specializes in serving Baltic herries. They serve fresh herring, not the notorious Swedish fermented herring. I ordered strömming on rye which came with deep fried herring, mustard, onions, and dill on top. It was awesomely delicious. By this time on this Stockholm food tour day I was getting pretty full. Strömming - 40 SEK ($4.68)
So we ended the day here. It was a wonderful day in Stockholm eating lots of delicious food!

If you are heading to Stockholm Sweden and wondering what to eat, the consider this your essential Swedish food guide. We show you some of the best Swedish food and what you should eat in Sweden. Swedish food is easy to find in Stockholm. There are lots of Swedish food options in Gamla Stan, the old town, with many restaurants selling tradition Swedish food. The variety and selection of Swedish food in Stockholm is amazing. One of the best ways to experience Stockholm is by visiting one of the many food halls in Stockholm or visit one of the many traditional Swedish restaurants in Gamla Stan. In this video we will take you on a tour of the best Swedish food options in Stockholm, Sweden.
- Restaurant Tradition serves traditional Swedish food, including Bleak roe toast, Skagen, Anchovies and egg, ”Beef Rydberg” Roast beef with dill sauce and a delicious apple crumble with vanilla sauce for desert
-Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberries: Swedish meatballs is a Swedish classic made famous by Ikea. Hand made traditional Swedish Meatballs served with Lingonberries is the best way to experience this delicious Swedish dish.

-Stockholm Food Halls: There are three main food halls in Stockholm. Östermalms saluhall, Hötorgshallen, Kungshallen. We had Swedish Salmon steak at one of the restaurants in the Kungshallen.
-Fika is the Swedish coffee break, comprising of a sweet snack like the kannelbulle (cinnamon bun). We went to Cafe Dox in Gamla Stan Kannelbulle was the most popular Swedish pastry which we came across. You will find Kannelbulle throughout Stockholm.
-Fem Sma Hus: This amazing restaurant situated in the old town in Stockholm has a maze of basements. The menu consists of many traditional Swedish food options including the Fillet of reindeer which we had. Delicious.

Swedish Meatballs and JUICY Reindeer Steak in Stockholm, Sweden!

Day 17: Rome to Stockholm - On Day 17 of our round the world trip for food, we headed to the airport in Rome and flew to Stockholm, Sweden. After arriving and checking into our hotel, we headed a classic Swedish food restaurant to have an amazing dinner that included a reindeer steak and Swedish meatballs.
00:24 Leaving Rome - We woke up in the morning at our hotel in Rome, and we walked over to the Metro, headed to Termini station, and jumped on the airport bus to the airport. Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Rome was a little disorganized and the service wasn’t very good at all. But luckily we made it on our flight from Rome to Stockholm.
3:36 SAS flight from Rome to Stockholm - The flight took about 3 hours, and on the flight we were served a lunch box, that included a fusion of Asian and Scandinavian food. We arrived to Stockholm Arlanda Airport, and decided to take the bus from the airport to the area of Stockholm where we were staying, near to Fridhemsplan Station. The Flygbussarna Bus ride costs 119 SEK ($13.93) per person.
7:00 Check into Courtyard Marriott, Stockholm (Courtyard Stockholm Kungsholmen) - After getting off the bus, we walked over to our hotel and check in. The service and staff were great!
10:21 Pelikan Restaurant - For dinner on our first night in Stockholm I wanted to eat some traditional and delicious Swedish food, and so I chose to go to Pelikan Restaurant, a restaurant many of you had recommended to traditional Swedish food. The restaurant is an absolute classic. To start off our meal, I ordered steak tartare (rabiff), which was an amazing dish, I’m still dreaming about it. Then I saw roasted reindeer on the menu and there was nothing I could do to keep myself from ordering it. The reindeer steak turned out to be incredibly delicious, so juicy and so tender. Finally, one of the most popular and well known Swedish foods in the world are Swedish meatballs, and so I also ordered Pelikan’s Swedish meatballs. They were delicious. Our entire meal at Pelikan restaurant was fantastic. Total price - 668 SEK ($78.19)
It was a great first day in Stockholm, a city I truly enjoyed visiting!

Food, Glorious Food in Stockholm, Sweden
Kungshallen on Kungsgaten Street has three levels of different restaurants and food courts that had every nth of space filled with dinners eating in and ordering take-away.
From there, we continued walking to Ostermalm Saluhall which has been serving locals and tourists with the best in food since 1888. The vendors are amazing and everything looked so luscious. Stockholm also has some of the world's star chefs and restaurants; too pricy for us and not needed with glorious food available on every street.
Hötorgshallen - Food Market in Stockholm, Sweden.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
