Eric Joseph Foote - War Memorial Sanctuary

Eric Joseph Foote War Memorial Sanctuary commemorates the loyalty and sacrifice of the Buderim people who lost their lives in World War One and World War Two. The land was donated to the Buderim Community by Arnold and Hubert Foote and named the the Eric Joseph Foote Park in memory of their brother who was killed on the Somme in France on September 13th, 1916.
The Foote Sanctuary covers 9 hectares (23 acres) on Buderim’s eastern slopes. The land was given to the public by the Foote family in memory of their son Eric, killed in the First World War. There are a few entrances, but the main entry for vehicles is via Foote Avenue off the Buderim-Mooloolaba Road. Entry is free but no dogs are permitted in the natural sanctuary.The flora consists of beautiful wooded areas, stands of rainforest, eucalyptus, tree-ferns, melaleucas and eugenias - a large proportion of these plants are labelled for botany enthusiasts, even giving the Aboriginal medicinal usage for the different plant sections. This superb flora and fauna reserve has over two hundred and seventy-two indigenous flora species and is a haven for birds and a habitat for a range of larger mammals including the swamp wallaby.
