Fauti Masjid (also Phuti Masjid) is a mosque in the city of Kumarpur, India which was built by Nawab Sarfaraz Khan in 1740 AD. It is said to have been built by Nawab Sarfaraz Khan in a single night, however it is said that the Nawab hired the masons for several months where the mater role was called one day. The old Fauti Masjid is one of the largest mosques in the town of Kumarpur and Murshidabad. It is about 3 quarters of a mile away from the grand and famous Hazarduari Palace. This grand mosque is 135 feet long and 38 feet broad. It has five domes and four spiral staircases at its four corners surmounted by cupolas. However, the domes are still incomplete. The Fauti mosque of Murshidabad at present is in ruins and has been overgrown by a jungle nearby. As name suggest, Fauti (Phuti) Masjid has 'holes' / 'phuta' in inside ceiling; because it was not completely constructed.

Baro Shona Masjid (The Great Golden Mosque) also known as Baroduari (12-gate mosque), is located in Gour, India. Completed in 1526, it is situated half a kilometer to the south of Ramkeli, 12 km south from Malda in West Bengal. Baro Shona Masjid of Gour, its ruins can be found in Malda, West Bengal, India, very close to the India-Bangladesh border. A gigantic rectangular structure of brick and stone, this mosque is the largest monument in Gour. Though the name means Twelve Doors, this monument actually has eleven.
The construction of baro sona mosque, measuring 50.4 m. by 22.8 m., and 12 m. in height, was started by Alauddin Husain Shah and was completed in 1526 AD by his son Nasiruddin Nusrat Shah. The Indo-Arabic style of architecture and the ornamental stone carvings make Baroduari a special attraction for tourists.
The site is located near Ramkeli village. Local bus is available from Malda. Anyone traveling from Malda should avail the bus for Mahadipur and have to leave the bus at Piasbari. Anyone can take easybike/tuktuk from Piasbari or can walk. It will take only 15-20 minutes to reach on foot.

Historic places TO visit in Murshidabad - India.
Of historic interest are Nizamat Kila (the Fortress of the Nawabs), also known as the Hazaarduari Palace (Palace of a Thousand Doors), built by Duncan McLeod of the Bengal Engineers in 1837, in the Italianate style, the Moti Jhil (Pearl Lake) just to the south of the palace, the Muradbagh Palace and the Khushbagh Cemetery, where the remains of Ali Vardi Khan and Siraj Ud Daulah are interred.
Hazarduari Palace is located in the campus of Kila Nizamat of Murshidabad. It was built in the nineteenth century by architect Duncan Macleod, under the reign of Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa (1824--1838). The foundation stone of the palace was laid on August 9, 1829, and that very day the construction work was started. William Cavendish was the then Governor-General. Now, Hazarduari Palace is the most conspicuous building in Murshidabad. In 1985, the palace was handed over to the Archaeological Survey of India for better preservation
The present Nizamat Imambara was built in 1847 AD by Nawab Nazim Mansoor Ali Khan Feradun Jah, who succeeded his father Nawab Nazim Humayun Jah in Murshidabad, India. It was built after the fires of 1842 and 1846 which burnt the wooden Imambara built by Nawab Siraj Ud-Daulah. This Imambara is the largest one in India and Bengal.
The Katra Masjid (also known as Katra Mosque) is a mosque and the tomb of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan built between 1723 and 1724. It is located on the northeastern side of the city. Its importance lies not only as a great center of Islamic learning but also for the tomb of Murshid Quli Khan, who is buried under the entrance staircase. The most striking feature is the two large corner towers having loopholes for musketry. At present, it is maintained and protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and the Government of West Bengal.
Bacchawali Tope is a gun, rather cannon which lies in the Nizamat Fort Campus on the garden space between the Nizamat Imambara and the Hazarduari Palace and to the east of the old Madina Mosque. The cannon consists two pieces of different diameters. The cannon was made between the 12th and 14th century, probably by the Mohammedan rulers of Gaur. It originally lied on the sandbanks of Ichaganj. However, it is unknown how it came in Ichaganj. It was used to protect the city of Murshidabad from north-western attacks. After the 1846 fire of the Nizamat Imambara, the Imambara was rebuilt, then after the completion of the new Imambara, the cannon was shifted to its present site by Sadeq Ali Khan, the architect of the sacred Nizamat Imambara under the suggestion of Sir Henry Torrens, the then agent of the Governor General at Murshidabad.

STORYLINE :
Indian government forces on Monday fired warning shots in the air and tear gas to disperse thousands of Kashmiri Muslims in Srinigar who started a march to the Pakistan-administered portion of the divided territory to protest a Hindu trade blockade, police said.
Thousands of people in nearly half a dozen groups defied steel barricades set up by police and began marching toward the cease-fire line dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan to protest the blockade and collect essential supplies.
AP Television showed police firing tear gas shells and charging the demonstrators who were pelting rocks towards them.
Similar clashes also occurred in Sopore, a town nearly 30 miles (50 kilometres) north of Srinagar, the main city in Jammu-Kashmir state.
An alliance of non-violent groups seeking independence for the Indian portion of Muslim-majority Kashmir or its merger with Pakistan called the
demonstrations to protest a blockade by Hindus of a key highway linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India which has stranded hundreds of trucks carrying food and supplies in and out of the region.
Indian authorities placed two key separatist leaders under house arrest on Sunday to prevent them from leading the demonstrations.
Police and paramilitary soldiers also seized dozens of fruit-laden trucks and deflated the tires of other vehicles in Srinagar, Sopore and Shopian
which the protesters had planned to drive during the procession, traders said.
Traders have warned that Kashmir faces shortages of food and medicine because of the highway blockade. They complain that hundreds of truckloads of Kashmiri fruit are spoiling because they cannot be delivered.
The protests are the latest development in a political crisis that began in June with a dispute over land near a Hindu shrine and has boiled over into
deadly rioting and rising animosity between Muslims and Hindus.
Kashmir's Hindu minority was angered when the state government reversed a June decision to give 99 acres (40 hectares) of land to a Hindu trust to build facilities for pilgrims near the shrine.
Muslims complained that the gift of land would alter the religious balance in the region.
Protests by both sides escalated into 47 days of rioting that left 12 people dead, transforming the dispute into one of the worst political crises
to hit a region plagued by years of brutal fighting between separatist rebels and Indian security forces.

MURSHIDABAD-(KATRA MOSQUE) YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE LIKE THIS
The Katra Masjid (also known as Katra Mosque) is a mosque and the tomb of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan built between 1723 and 1724.[1] It is located in the north eastern side of the city of Murshidabad, in the Indian state of West Bengal. Its importance lies not only as a great centre of Islamic learning but also for the tomb of Murshid Quli Khan, who is buried under the entrance staircase. The most striking feature is the two large corner towers having loopholes for musketry.
The mosque stands on a square plinth. It is a brick built mosque and is surrounded by double storied domed cells, which were built for those who read the Holy Quran in those days, they can also be called a Madrasa. All the rooms can in all accommodate 700 Quran readers. These rooms from a cloister to the huge courtyard in front of these rooms.[1] Four big minars stand at the four corners. These are octagonal in plan and taper upwards. The two towers or the minarets in front of the mosque are 70 feet high and 25 feet in diameter. The whole mosque is quadrangular in shape, the whole mosque has no pillar support but it has been given support by a raised platform below the mosque or by several arches. The mosque has however been destroyed in the 1897 earthquake. Each minar has a winding staircase which leads to the top, one can see a major part of the city of Murshidabad from there. At the two ends of the mosque, two miratets measuring 70 feet high, are still existing to date in a dilapidated condition, they had domes which were destroyed in the 1897 earthquake. In 1780 AD, a traveller name William Hodges wrote that 700 Quran readers lived there in the mosque. Hodges in his book Select Views of India describes it as a grand seminary of Musalman learning, adorned by a mosque which rises high above all the surrounding buildings.
The entrance to the mosque is by fourteen flight of stairs from the east, Nawab Murshid Quli Khan has been buried under these stairs.[1] It has been done so as per the Nawab's wish who was repentant for the misdeeds committed by him and ordered this out of humility. He wanted to be buried in such a place where he could be trodden and could get the foot prints and the touch of the feet of the noble men who climb those stairs and enter the mosque. So since the year 1725 when he died his mortal remain buried under the stairs. In the mosque there is a slab embedded at the top where it is written in Arabic: Muhammad, the Arabian, the glory of both worlds. Dust be on the head of him who is not the dust of his portal.
This mosque is rectangular in plan. The dimensions are: 45.5m X 7.32m. It has been divided into five bays, each with an arched entrance and the central one is the most prominent one as it has a slender turret. The mosque has five domes. Some of them have been destroyed others have survived the great earthquake of 1897, which almost destroyed most of the building. The total area is 19.5 acres and can accommodate 2000 Namaz readers, that is the reason one can find 2000 squared type mats depicted on the floor, each of them used by a single Namaz reader.
The cells in the mosque are two storied and are 20 feet square. each have 6 arched doorways. 15 steps edged with stones lead up to the gate with 5 arches on either sides and a stone paved pathway which leads to the central door of the mosque. The open spaces between these cells and the mosque are 13 feet wide on either sides and 42 feet wide at the back of the mosque. the terrace in front of the mosque is 166 feet by 110 feet.
