The Lost Souls of Gastown - Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours
Forbidden Vancouver presents the Lost Souls of Gastown - part walking tour and part gothic theatre adventure. You'll roam through the backstreets and alleyways of Victorian Gastown, hearing the story of Sarah Briars. A story of smallpox, fire, and murder. The experience leads you through the city's earliest and darkest history, including the Great Fire of 1886, the Klondike Goldrush, the bawdy houses of old Water Street, and the gruesome unsolved murder of John Bray. Vancouver B.C. in 2004 - Driving Downtown and Walking Gastown - Canada
This is home video from back in 2004, filmed with a now old Hi8 analog tape camcorder. This video shows us driving through downtown Vancouver BC, Canada, and a little bit of walking through Gastown, also in Vancouver. See how this place looked in 04 and all the cars people were driving back then. Some of you may find this video boring, but others may find it fascinating. A few parts (but not many) were sped up briefly to avoid copyright issues with the music playing on the car's radio.
This isn't the normal type of video I post, but wanted to share this rare treat, and I still have more old footage from other cities that I plan on sharing.

Vancouver's Three Cities: A History
Living in Vancouver you might not know it is actually an amalgamation of three cities. Their distinctive cultures survive today. This video has some highlights of this history. In deciding on future development and density, perhaps we should respect this past.
This video touches on where the terms East End, West End, East Side and West Side come from, why First Avenue starts where it does, why the streets do not align on 16th Avenue, Burrard, Nanaimo, etc, why the houses on Union Street are higher and lower than the street grade(levelled for horses hauling goods). Also explains that when the three cities were amalgamated City Hall was moved to near the Boundary at 12th and Cambie, Broadway was positioned at the edge of an old District Lot, the streets of the Hastings Township were named after mining districts, etc.
