Henry Ford’s Foley - Fordlandia Fordlândia, Brazil Then and Now
In the 1920s Henry Ford and his Ford Motor Company sought to build a tropical utopia in Brazil in order to produce their own rubber. At the time, the British had a monopoly on the industry. Over the course of a decade, Fordlandia suffered from pour soil, insect infestations, mismanagement, and unhappy workers and was moved further up river. Unfortunately, the entire project was a financial failure and was scrapped completely when synthetic latex was invented in 1945.

What you probably don't know about Henry, is his failed attempt to build his very own town in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. He called it “Fordlandia”
