Kayaking Old Harry Rocks Dorset The Jurassic Coast
Had a fantastic time in Dorset Kayaking
Old Harry Rocks are a pair of chalk stacks close to Handfast Point about 2 miles north east of Swanage and 1 miles east of Studland. Old Harry lies at the eastern edge of the Isle of Purbeck and is the start of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The headland is a part of Ballard Down which is owned by the National Trust.
A bridleway along the cliff edge between Studland and Swanage gives stunning views of Old Harry and the surrounding area. On a clear day you can see east towards Dorchester and west to the Isle of Wight and Christchurch. A National Trust car park next to the Bankes Arms Country Inn in Studland makes a good starting point for walkers and cyclists wanting to visit Old Harry Rocks.
Old Harry Rocks were created through thousands of years of erosion by the sea and were originally a part of the chalk ridge-line that runs across the south coast joining up with the Needles on the Isle of Wight. The chalk ridge was formed approximately 65 million years ago when the area was under a shallow sea. Calcium deposits from sea creatures dying and falling to the sea bed slowly built up over millions of years to create the chalk ridge and plate tectonics brought the chalk up above the sea level before the last ice age. Rising sea levels at the end of the last ice age combined with erosion channelled out the chalk ridge creating the Solent and Old Harry in the process.
The chalk stacks and surrounding cliffs are constantly eroding with regular cliff falls along the coastline between Studland and Swanage. The small stack next to old Harry is often referred to as Old Harry’s Wife. Old Harry’s original wife fell into the sea in 1896 but erosion has since formed a new small stack which has become known as Old Harry’s Wife. The outcrop of land next to Old Harry is known as No Man’s Land. The name Old Harry is believed to refer to the devil who legend says once had a sleep on the rocks.
Jason Sailing Solo At Knoll Beach, Studland Bay
Wild Camp and Sea Kayaking in Dorset with NOMAD Sea Kayaking; Now All Inclusive trip.
A 2 day ADVENTURE to remember. Launching from Swanage and paddling across the bay towards the headland where we'll find a large cave entrance for a visit. The rocky coastline here is dominated by a high cliff face and the paddling is great fun through small gaps with rolling swells and a lot of bird life.
The wonderful eroded chalk stacks and caves of 'Old Harry Rocks' offer beautiful views with a landing possible on an ebb tide and good conditions. 'Old Harry' is an archaic name for Satan and is generally used to describe the stack at the seaward end. In the nineteenth-century Harry had a wife, but he was widowed in 1896 when this accompanying stack collapsed into the sea.
The white sandy beaches of Studland Bay offer sunbathing, snorkelling & swimming. Wild camp on beaches, see quiet coves only accessible by kayak with excellent fishing (mackerel, sea bass & pollack), socialise around an open wood fire and enjoy the good company of the group! Perfect for Stag Parties and large groups!
The entire trip is registered with Portland Coastguard and guided by BCU qualified Guides and we complete our adventure back at Swanage Bay around 3pm on the final day, usually a Sunday.
We ask all of our guests to participate in a beach clean of any beach we land on during your event, usually at the end of our lunch break. Please bring along a strong bin bag and gloves (if they need them) to help us with the beach clean. Obviously this isn't compulsory but we all use the environment and we want to take care of it for future visitors and the marine wildlife that live there. After all, this is our coastline.

[Adventure Episodes] Ep. 38 - Studland & Old Harry Rocks Walk
We take a trip down to Studland Bay and do the National Trust Old Harry Rocks walk on a beautiful sunny weekend. We'd planned on heading to Durdle Door later on but the weather came in and we couldn't see anything. So lucky to have beautiful coastal scenery like this so close to home!

The Jurassic Coast captured by drone. Dorset filmed using DJI Phantom 4 Pro
This is a film I've personally been wanting to do for some years, after my Beautiful Hampshire film. I've now teamed up with DM Photography and we've bought this stunning and relaxing film covering some of the most beautiful locations in our country.
I do hope you enjoy this as much as I have creating it.

Lulworth and Worbarrow May 2019
On a fine but chilly English spring day we fished along the beautiful Jurassic Coast for big Sea Bream and some other surprise guests. Felt like a quintessentially British day so opted to wallow in a bit of patriotic Elgar for the theme tune. All that is missing is a cream tea and Spitfire fly by!
WINDY WEEKEND BOATING IN WEYMOUTH, CAMPING AT SEA BARN
What we thought what might be a good fishing weekend in Weymouth turned out to be a wet and windy no fish weekend, few wrasse caught from Portland Bill but then got blown off there, few small species caught from Weymouth stone pier so that made up for it. Still an experience in choppy water next time we will watch the weather forecast.
