Adams National Historical Park
Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, Massachusetts preserves the home of Presidents of the United States John Adams and John Quincy Adams, of U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, Charles Francis Adams, and of the writers and historians Henry Adams and Brooks Adams.
The national historical park's eleven buildings tell the story of five generations of the Adams family (from 1720 to 1927) including Presidents, First Ladies, U.S. Ministers, historians, writers, and family members who supported and contributed to their success. In addition to Peacefield, home to four generations of the Adams family, the park's main historic features include the John Adams Birthplace (October 30, 1735), the nearby John Quincy Adams Birthplace (July 11, 1767), and the Stone Library (built in 1870 to house the books of John Quincy Adams and believed to be the first presidential library), containing more than 14,000 historic volumes in 12 languages.
There is an off-site Visitors Center less than a mile away. Regularly scheduled tours of the houses are offered in season (April 19 to November 10), by guided tour only, using a tourist trolley provided by the Park Service between sites. Access to United First Parish Church, where the Adamses worshipped and are buried, is provided by the congregation for which they ask a small donation. The church is next to the street from the Visitors Center.

Before and after pictures of Old Main st. Downtown Springfield MA.wmv
This video was made due to Springfield, Massachusetts Downtown Main St. not showing up when I searched it in youtube. I did find some videos about Springfield Gangs, shootings ,Rap(no offense I was from N.Y. and I love the hood too)and one in particulr from a guy who drove by while filming, he just drove by without a word or a caption in his video. Another guy driving was caught in what seemed to be a youth street fight till someone started shooting. The driver that was filming took off terified. But I didn't find anything about Main Street.Well sorry I think I saw a video from this guy who did pass by talking about springfield and he did pass by Main St. Nice guy, he was talking about history I think. I can be wrong though. I also made it cause it made me sad to realize that everything around me was changing without me even realizing.Only upon the editiing of this video did I noticed that there were buildings mising and memories forever lost.Maybe someone out there can tell me more about this place,I only been here about ten years.Yes I already know it's Crime Ridden but that doesn't make it a less historic place. I think is just fine for me.Sorry I didn't know too much about every building I passed,I tried.

Springfield Preservation Trust Homes of Atwater Tour
Springfield, MA
Much of the Atwater neighborhood was developed from the 300-acre estate of George Atwater, founder of the Springfield Street Railway. Ten years after his death in 1902, the Atwater heirs hired the Boston firm of Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. to create a plan for a pleasant residential area.
Several noted local architects were involved in designing houses. Eugene Gardner and his son George worked on more than a dozen homes. Napoleon Russell and his partner Fred Knowlton designed numerous homes and also helped develop the area around Shefford atwaterhouse1and Caseland Streets. Max Westhoff, who designed the old Shriners Hospital and the Connecticut Valley History Museum, also worked on homes.
The neighborhoodís park-like setting, proximity to Springfield Hospital, and access to the trolley line encouraged development. (A remnant of the trolley tracks can be seen at Atwater Road and Crestwood Street). Prior to the Great Depression, many houses were built in the popular Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival styles. Noted residents over the years include early aviatrix Maude Tait Moriarty, impressionist painter Harriet Randall Lumis, ìliveî cork-centered baseball inventor Milton Reach, and Mass Mutual president Betrand Perry.
Massachusetts - United States
Massachusetts is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. It is bordered by Rhode Island and Connecticut to the south, New York to the west, and Vermont and New Hampshire to the north; at its east lies the Atlantic Ocean. Massachusetts is the 7th smallest, but the 14th most populous and the 3rd most densely populated of the 50 United States. Massachusetts features two separate metropolitan areas: Greater Boston in the east and the Springfield metropolitan area in the west. Approximately two-thirds of Massachusetts' population lives in Greater Boston. Generally the Greater Boston boundary is regarded as the Atlantic Ocean to the east and areas just north, west, and south of Interstate 495 to the west, north, and south. Western Massachusetts features one urban area - the Knowledge Corridor along the Connecticut River - and a mix of college towns and rural areas. Many of Massachusetts' towns, cities, and counties have names identical to ones in England. Massachusetts is the most populous of the six New England states and has the nation's sixth highest GDP per capita.

The park renovation is part of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno’ s commitment, along with the Federal Government, to rebuild Springfield and make improvements in areas affected by the 2011 tornado.
The City, in conjunction with the East Forest Park Civic Association and area residents, developed a master plan for Nathan Bill Park. Improvements included new tennis courts, improved irrigated athletic fields, improvements to the existing playground and swings, a new splash pad, landscape improvements and improved parking. The city opened the splash pad for the summer season and the fields will be opened for spring 2016.

Park Chairman Brian Santaniello stated, “The Park Commission wants to thank the residents of East Forest Park in playing a vital role in the planning process for this grant. The success of any project depends on neighborhood support and input. We look forward to the continued efforts of the city and its residents in the restoration of all areas affected by the Tornado.”

The History of Lincoln Cottage
In 1862, Abraham Lincoln and his family were invited to stay in a Gothic-Revival “cottage” on the grounds of the Soldier’s Home. Located in Washington, D.C., the Cottage had been originally built for banker George W. Riggs in 1842, but the federal government purchased the estate in 1851 to found a home for retired and disabled veterans. The Cottage served as Lincoln’s family residence for a quarter of his presidency during the summers of 1862, 1863 and 1864, and it is where he was living when he developed his Emancipation Proclamation.
The historic significance of the Soldiers’ Home was officially recognized in 1974, when four buildings built before the Civil War, along with six surrounding acres of land, were designated a National Historic Landmark. In 2000, President Clinton designated the site a National Monument, and it remains the only official National Monument in Washington, D.C.
Also in 2000, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, a private, non-profit organization, assumed stewardship of President Lincoln’s Cottage and began an eight-year capital project to preserve, restore, sustainably rehabilitate and conduct archaeology at the property. After the $15 million restoration by the NTHP, President Lincoln’s Cottage opened to the public for the first time in 2008, giving Americans an intimate, never-before-seen view of Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and family life. In addition to President Lincoln’s Cottage, the adjacent Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center features related exhibits and media presentations.
