Verderers trail in the dark. Forest of Dean, full route in real time.
July 2018 version here. Better Full HD camera at 60FPS
I found this on forestry website in August when looking for some rides in the forest of Dean.
About 19 miles of cycling on a thursday afternoon and evening on the 29th December 2016.
I did this in August when light and ground dry, did a similar time so I was pleased.
I was doing Freeminers trail (also on here) until the organised ride started at 6.30pm.
I said I was going, went in at the start of the afternoon activity and spent money on elbow and knee pads. Then just before 6.30 went into the building, café and found out they had gone at 6!. Still not to worry as I did verderers trail twice starting after 6.30 so nice and dark. Time to try the newish light at a good place for it. Video of trying the light on first proper time out as well on youtube channel here.
When finished the Freeminers trail about 5.20pm I was one of very few people here in the dark. Then had a rest and went off on this easier Verderers trail for 2 laps with the 2nd handlebar light on so a better faster video as better lit and more fun for me as I can do this one. This is the 2nd run.
Doing the freeminers trail when still some daylight I fell off (dark by then), I was hardly moving, trying to get around a nasty bit of ground and put foot down to something a few inches too low. Over I went and camera case took the hit, broke the bracket. So filming now rubbish!. After 5 minutes I did stop and use what ever I had to improve the situation. So out came the cable ties and I strapped and tightened it up the best I could. This video was made when case and bracket strapped up with cable ties. Still pointing slightly to right and down so front wheel and cables show, they don't normally
Nearest postcode. GL16 7EH
A little café, bike repairs, toilets, shower and a place to hire bikes as well. I noticed a compressed air line with bike inner tube valve inflater/gauge thingy (technical term). A bike washdown as well. Also some tools on cables bolted to the wall.
A nice area with picnic tables right by the little café.
A good afternoon, evening out on my own.
I have a Scott e Aspect 910 with a bosch performance line electric drive system.
Some bike computer stats.
21.7 MPH max speed.
11 MPH average.
Bike on for 38.52 minutes.
The gpx file made by the garmin unit on the handlebars can be downloaded here on the dropbox link. Download and open up in google earth. open google earth and then file, open, make sure gpx type file is selected opposite open bar and open Verderers Trail, where ever you saved that.
Right click on blue line (route) and elevation profile is good.
You don't need to sign in or have an account. I just did using web browser and not signed in to try.

Pop up art event Rainbow Forest on the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail - multi-coloured den-making
On Wednesday 24th August, we held a one-off pop up art event on the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trail. Rainbow Forest was commissioned as part of the Trail’s 30th anniversary celebrations this year. We used an eco-friendly, natural paint to cover hundreds of branches and sticks in bright colours and then invited the public to demonstrate their creative skills.
People of all ages joined in to create a colourful new landscape together. There was great team work and sharing, friends were made, skills were learnt and it was a lot of fun.
There was a huge mix of wonderful, inventive structures made, with big dens and miniature dens, hideouts, tipis and even one giant den with its own bed and kitchen! The final results were vivid and striking, contrasting wonderfully with the natural woodland landscape and the forest was thoroughly transformed into a multi-coloured pop up playground.
Rainbow Forest was inspired by the many dens which have appeared along the Sculpture Trail over the years. Children and families love building improvised dens and structures using debris and tree branches that sit around the forest, and you can’t go far without seeing one.
Rather than ignore all this guerrilla sculpture making, we were inspired by it and decided to create this special one-off event based on the inventive and striking den-making we saw around us.
Rainbow Forest was also influenced by new sculpture “Yaşasin” by Pomona Zipser which was installed on the Trail in July.
The eco-paint was from Earthborn Paints and was clay based. Claypaint provided a completely safe, eco-friendly paint suitable for families and children to handle. Find out more about why we chose this paint here:

The music is called The Groke i think, we dont own this piece of music and it was simply a download that fitted the video. We added a few sound effects for a bit of extra flavour. Also sometimes youtube loses a tiny bit of quality when videos are uploaded so if you want to see the pictuers properly and clearly, use the link on our channel page to view them via website.
