Forgotten Songs Installation, Angel Place, Sydney
A permanent public art installation we created comprising 180 bird cages that play a soundscape of birdsong. The calls are from bird species that used to live in the city before the arrival of Europeans. During the day, you may hear the calls of the Eastern Whipbird, Rockwarbler, Regent Honeyeater, Grey Shrike-thrush, Fan-tailed Cuckoo, Spotted Pardalote, Brown Gerygone, Jacky Winter, Scarlet Robin and many others. At night, the soundtrack switches to nocturnal birds like the Australian Owlet-nightjar, Powerful Owl, Southern Boobook, Barn Owl, Tawny Frogmouth, and White-throated Nightjar.
Sydney Australia public art-Forgotten Songs
Public art in Sydney Australia.
Forgotten Songs is a delightful art installation representing Sydney's lost birds. In Angel Place, in downtown Sydney, here is a constellation of empty bird cages from which you can hear a variety of birds in song. In competition with Melbourne, Sydney prides itself on its proliferation of public art works. I learned about this thought provoking work of art during a walking tour in Sydney, at the end of a 36 day cruise from Fort Lauderdale Florida, through the Panama Canal, with visits in several South Pacific ports, and New Zealand. February 2016.
Forgotten Songs, Angel Pl, Sydney

Forgotten Songs - By George! Sydney Hidden Networks and Street Art
A canopy of empty birdcages and an audio recording of Sydney's lost birds; once in Sydney before Europeans settled and are now gone. I found it to be an interesting and (positively) eclectic installation. Here is the website for information about the project:

Lyrics:
I left my heart to the sappers round Khe Sanh
And my soul was sold with my cigarettes
To the blackmarket man
I've had the Vietnam cold turkey
From the ocean to the Silver City
And it's only other vets could understand
About the long forgotten dockside guarantees
How there were no V-Day heroes in 1973
How we sailed into Sydney Harbour
Saw an old friend but couldn't kiss her
She was lined, and I was home to the lucky land
And she was like so many more from that time on
Their lives were all so empty
Till they found their chosen one
And their legs were often open
But their minds were always closed
And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains
And the legal pads were yellow
Hours long, pay-packets lean
And the telex writers clattered
Where the gunships once had been
But the car parks made me jumpy
And I never stopped the dreams
Or the growing need for speed and Novocain
So I worked across the country end to end
Tried to find a place to settle down
Where my mixed up life could mend
Held a job on an oil-rig
Flying choppers when I could
But the nightlife nearly drove me round the bend
And I've travelled round the world from year to year
And each one found me aimless
One more year the worse for wear
And I've been back to South East Asia
But the answer sure ain't there
But I'm drifting north, to check things out again
You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Only seven flying hours, and I'll be landing in Hong Kong
There ain't nothing like the kisses
From a jaded Chinese princess
I'm gonna hit some Hong Kong mattress all night long
Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
Yeah the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone
And it's really got me worried
I'm goin' nowhere and I'm in a hurry
And the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone

Lyrics:
Few of the sins of the father, are visited upon the son
Hearts have been hard, our hands have been clenched in a fist too long
Our sons need never be soldiers, our daughters will never need guns
These are the years between
These are the years that were hard fought and won
Contracts torn at the edges, old signatures stained with tears
Seasons of war and peace, these should not be forgotten years
Still it aches like tetanus, it reeks of politics
How many dreams remain? This is a feeling too strong to contain
The hardest years, the darkest years, the roarin' years, the fallen years
These should not be forgotten years
The hardest years, the wildest years, the desperate and divided years
We will remember, these should not be forgotten years

SING FOR JAPAN!
----------
As Japan remembers the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the Tohoku region on March 11, it is important to remind Japan that we haven't forgotten.
The Tyler Foundation mobilized its resources and launched the Shine On! Tohoku Children's Support Program. To date, close to 12,000 children have received psychosocial support.
And in collaboration with the Sakari Elementary School in the Ofunato region, we recorded the song Who I Want to Be a bold and hopeful song of promise.
Originally sung by Rie Fu, we invited the global community to sing this song for Japan. We are asked groups of all ages to submit their videos to be posted on our websites for all of Japan to see and to be reminded that we have not forgotten.

Sonic Live in Sydney (Full & Complete CD - 1997 - Sega World Sydney)
Download the CD tracks here:
A CD released in Australia in 1997, this CD contains three songs and a live recording from a stage show called Sonic Live in Sydney, which was performed at the Sega World Sydney amusement park (which ran from 1997 to 2000). It used some elements from both the Sonic the Hedgehog television series and Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and was performed by costumed actors and dancers. Most of the music and sound effects used in the show were taken from Masato Nakamura's score on Sonic the Hedgehog 2, with three unique musical numbers, written by D Jacobsen and N MacDonald; Sonic's What Are We Waiting For?, Dr. Robotnik's Give Me Chaos and Thank You For Being You, sung by Sally Acorn. In the same year, the show was disbanded and replaced with a puppet show.
