THE FORGOTTEN WARRIORS MUSEUM CAPE MAY AIRPORT NEW JERSEY
This is a Museum that everyone should visit. It was started by Thomas Collins and his wife. It is a beautiful and very emotional tribute to all of the veterans of the Vietnam and Korean Wars. It was the first time that I had seen what it must have been like to be a prisoner of war and actually 'see' the cage that they were kept in. Hopefully everyone who watches this video will send them a donation so that they can expand the Museum.
THE MESSAGE BELOW IS FROM THE PAMPHLET
For many Americans, the war in Vietnam was the defining event of their lives. It was a conflict that divided families and brought violence both to Vietnam and the United States. Whether in uniform or not, everyone who lived through this period had a Vietnam experience.
Dispite its cultural and military importance, after more than 30 years, there is no national venue dedicated to examining the legacy of the Vietnam War. The time has come to examine and understand this most divisive period in our history, to allow for reflection, resolution, and healing.
The Forgotten Warriors Museum currently has over 1000 artifacts, memorabilia and photographic material which are displayed either under glass or in walk-through areas which allow the visitor to fully appreciate what it was actually like to be in country and absorb the era which was Vietnam. The indoor display features mannequins, photographs, scale models and dioramas, military equipment and much more.
The museum is always looking for new items to display and donations of Vietnam related matter is always welcomed.
The Legend of the Piasa Bird - An American Indian Dragon Story
View Photos Here:
The Piasa Bird is a local legend in the river bend area of Illinois. The first record of the beast dates back to 1673. Father Jacques Marquette, while recording his journey down the Mississippi River with Louis Joliet. Described the Piasa as a birdlike monster painted high on the bluffs along the Mississippi River, where the city of Alton, Illinois now stands.
According to the journey log, the Piasa was as large as a cow with horns like a deer, red eyes, a beard like a tiger's, a face like a man. The body was covered with green, red and black scales and a tail so long it passed around the body, over the head, and between the legs.
The creature was given its name by the Illini Indians, The Piasa, meaning a bird that devours men.
There are many legends regarding its origin. Somewhere the creature dies, others where the beast still stalks in caves. In this video I cover the more popular telling:
Many moons ago, there existed a birdlike creature of such great size, he could carry off a full-grown deer in his talons. His taste, however, was for human flesh. In fact, hundreds of warriors attempted to destroy the Piasa and failed. Whole villages were destroyed and fear spread throughout the Illini tribe.
At this time Ouatoga separated himself from his tribe, fasted in solitude for an entire moon and prayed to the Great Spirit to protect his people from the Piasa.
On the last night of his fast, the Great Spirit appeared to Ouatoga in a dream and directed him to select 20 warriors, arm them each with a bow and poisoned arrow, and conceal them in a specific location. An ill-fated warrior was to stand in an open view, as a victim of the Piasa.
When the chief awoke in the morning, he told the tribe of his dream. The warriors were quickly selected and gathered. Ouatoga offered himself as the victim. Placing himself in open view, he soon saw the Piasa perched on the bluff eyeing his prey. Ouatoga began to chant the death song of a warrior. The Piasa took to the air and swooped down upon the chief. The Piasa had just reached his victim when every bow was sprung and every arrow sent sailing into the body of the beast. The Piasa uttered a fearful scream that echoed down the river and died. Ouatoga was safe, and the tribe saved.

UTRGV Athletics Retires Fred Taylor's Jersey
Feb. 16, 2019 – EDINBURG, Texas – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Athletics Department of Intercollegiate Athletics retired Hall of Famer and former-NBA player Fred Taylor‘s No. 30 jersey at halftime of the UTRGV men’s basketball game against Utah Valley on Saturday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
Taylor jersey number is the fourth to ever be retired in the department’s history, and the third in men’s basketball, along with Luke Jackson’s No. 54, which was retired across all sports, Otto Moore’s No. 34, which was retired in men’s basketball, and head baseball coach emeritus Al Ogletree, whose No. 44 was retired in baseball.
“I think it’s an honor to be mentioned with the other guys who have had their numbers retired,” Taylor said. “We have had so many great athletes come through this university in all sports and I want to personally thank [UTRGV Director of Athletics] Chris King for making this happen. Only two numbers had ever been retired before he arrived, and that number has doubled under his watch. His diligence made this moment come to fruition.”
A 6-5 guard/forward from Houston, Taylor played at legacy institution Pan American College from 1967-70, finishing as the program’s third (now fourth) all-time leading scorer with 1,721 points. He also ranks third in field goals made (681), fourth in free throws made (359), and seventh in rebounds (699). He was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
As a senior, Taylor earned All-American Honorable Mention by averaging a then-program record 27.9 points per game, the fourth-highest single-season total, by scoring 671 points, then the second (now sixth) highest total. During that season, he twice hit 18 baskets in a game, then tied for the third-highest (now sixth) single-game total in program history. He also became the first player in program history to knock down at least 10 free throws in a game without a miss by going 10-for-10 against Morehead State on Jan. 31, 1970.
During his first season with the program in 1967-68, Taylor led the team to the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament by averaging 21.4 points and 8.4 rebounds while hitting 48.5 percent of his shots from the field.
A 1970 second round pick (27th overall) in the NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns, Taylor played for the Suns from 1970-71 and the Cincinnati Royals from 1971-72. In 88 games, Taylor averaged 4.4 points on 36.4 percent shooting to go with 1.6 rebounds in 9.5 minutes per game.
Taylor twice has the opportunity to bring his teams to campus for exhibition games, leading the Suns against the Pistons on Oct. 10, 1970 and against the Golden State Warriors on Sep. 28, 1971 at the fieldhouse.
“Few have meant as much to this athletic department as Fred Taylor, who was an integral part of our success before returning to the Valley as an NBA player,” King said. “Retiring a jersey is one of the greatest honors in college athletics, and after all Fred did for Pan American, he deserves to have his number hanging for many years to come.”

Original Sin lyrics
Waiting for the night to crawl
Into your heart
A party in a warehouse loft to
Keep you calm
But this is not the way it always
Used to seem
And this isn't original for you
And me
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
Lying in our beds at night we
Start to dream
Eyes moving like flashlights
Under sheets
Up until the morning hours we
Are set free
There's nothing across from us
But what we see
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin
This is an original sin

Geographer official bio:
Formed in San Francisco in 2007, Geographer is the moniker for Mike Deni's American synthpop/indie rock band. Deni has described his sound as being soulful music from outer space using analog, electronic, and acoustic elements to craft dense layers and unique sound textures. As Geographer, Deni has released three full-length albums, Innocent Ghosts (2008), Myth (2012), and Ghost Modern (2015). Along with three EPs: Animal Shapes (2010), Endless Motion (2015), and Alone Time (2018).
Deni relocated to San Francisco from New Jersey, after living with the aftermath of the sudden and tragic death of his sister, and then the equally unexpected death of his father a year later. While sleeping on the floor of his friends' apartment in the Haight, Deni found a synthesizer on the street and began to channel both his grief and his optimism into the songs that would become Innocent Ghosts. This theme would continue through all his music, which pits intense and emotionally probing lyrics with momentous and soaring arrangements, often featuring electric cello. The Animal Shapes EP put Geographer on the map and launched his career. Since that release, Geographer has headlined multiple national tours, performed at festivals such as Outside Lands and Firefly and toured with musical luminaries such as K.Flay, The Flaming Lips, Young The Giant, Tycho, Ratatat, Betty Who, and Tokyo Police Club.
In 2018 Deni gave up his apartment in San Francisco and hopped between tours and friends' couches for the next 6 months, spending a month in his hometown in NJ, and a few weeks in Italy, where both sides of his family are from, before relocating to Los Angeles. During that time of shiftlessness, in limbo between his old and new life, Deni wrote the songs that would become the New Jersey EP. Many of the songs began in NJ in his childhood home and were finished in Los Angeles at his friend's house while looking for an apartment. Summer of My Discontentment and Love is Wasted in the Dark are the first pieces of music written during that time to be released by Deni and explore the notions of origin, nostalgia, and the metamorphosis of the dreams of the young.
