Apple orchards of Kazakhstan - яблоневые сады
Originating from Central Asia, apple orchards today occupy 5 million hectares of land. In Kazakhstan, Bioversity International held seminars with experts, agronomic training workshops with farmers and nurseries to improve the availability and productivity of apple diversity in the country. Many apples have been developed for intensive cultivation, but many traditional varieties grow well in these regions too. One of the oldest streets in the city - Gogol began to emerge in the second half of the 19th century. It has the most beautiful buildings of Almaty, whose history is the history of the city itself. Initially the street was called Shtabnaya (Headquaters), as it was a location of headquarters troops of Semirechensk area. The first was the chieftain of semirechye people Major General Gerasim Kolpakovsky. The headquarters building was built in 1875 and designed by the military engineer M.A. Antonov. It was the only one survived in urban areas after the devastating earthquakes in 1887 and 1911, as it has unique design features - vaulted basement structures, reminiscent of the cellars of the Kiev Arsenal or St. Petersburg Smolny. In addition, walls, during construction of which there was used a regional experience in building at active seismic zone. The construction is located on Pushkin Street, 44 corner Gogol Street. Rectangular by plan, it is a single-storied, brick building. The windows are framed by architraves and profiled Fascia.
Over the years, the former Headquarters’ building housed: Pushkin's two-year women's college, Verny Society of education adherents, Teacher’s college, school №19 named after Chernyshevsky, City Palace of Pioneers, vocal studio theater named after A.Dnischev, and now a world restaurant of fast food KFC.
81. The Secondary School
Every city has personalities, whose names are connected with full historical stages of its formation and development. For Verny (now Almaty) it was Gerasim A. Kolpakovsky. It is him that city owes its wide streets, clear layout of roads, ditches and itsgreen outfit that makes the city a garden. As the father of the region, G.A. Kolpakovsky cared about the moral education of people seeking for finance for the construction of schools and gymnasiums. One of them, City Verny School was named after him.
The building was built in Gogolevskaya street (now Gogol), at the corner of Treasury Street (Kaldayakov) in 1890. The facades are decorated highly with carved decoration, intermediate corbels and cornices. The symmetry of the building emphasizes the main entrance, emphasized by small projection and massive carved canopy. Author of the project, P.Gurde took into account all health standards required for academic buildings. He insisted on the replacement of stone stairs with wood ones, painting on walls in two colors (the upper part must be light green, and the lower one - dark, in order to avoid spots), and good ventilation. In its memorandum to the city council, he wrote: none of the schools in Seven Rivers region and even other provinces of Siberia can be compared with the Verny city school in relation to the premises, which meets with all the requirements of science and school authorities on the sizes and layout of the rooms. Currently, the building is in excellent condition and it hosts the Republican State Enterprise “Kazakhstan renovation.
71. Orphanage House
The special Committee of city construction was in charge of an economic life of Verny. It was established in 1870 under the leadership of General Governor of Seven Rivers region - Kolpakovsky Gerasim. He was able to establish a clear mechanism for all aspects of society - management, economics, distric council, patronage and guardianship. By order of the G.A. Kolpakovsky, every wealthy citizen of Verny participated in the care of the children of poor parents and especially orphans”. In October 28, 1879, the orphanage was opened in the house of the former head of the Alatau district in Big Stanitsa. Moreover, in 1892 with money of concerned residents, a new building was constructed. The magnificent one-storied building of Paul Gourde, is located on the territory of the two blocks between the streets Soldiers (Maulenov) - Citizens (Kabanbai Batyr) - Uzyn-Agach (Nauryzbai Batyr) - Camp (Shevchenko). It had a large farm with a garden (now there is a stadium Dynamo). The main facade faces the park with pine trees, planted by the hands of its pupils in 1911. By plan it was divided into two wings, the left was for boys, the right one for girls. There were schools, sewing shops, shoemaking and bookbinding crafts, graduating shoemakers and tailors. The fate of the orphanage building was developing very interestingly. Over the years, it was occupied by the House of Government, then Municipal Medical College, and now it is given to the Museum of history of Almaty city.
