Dedicated to Brew: Sapporo Beer Museum | Nippon.com: Japan in Video
Sapporo in Hokkaidō is home to Japan’s only museum of beer—called, appropriately enough, the Sapporo Beer Museum. It is located in an impressive brick building that was constructed in 1890 and served as a brewery from 1905 to 1965. After viewing the exhibits, which offer glimpses of beer’s history in Japan since its introduction in the latter part of the nineteenth century, visitors can sample various brews in the beer-tasting room. The museum is a popular attraction for adult tourists. Next door is the Sapporo Beer Garden, where drinkers and diners can choose among five restaurants.

The Sapporo Beer Museum (サッポロビール博物館) is a museum located in the Sapporo Garden Park in Higashi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaidō, Japan. Registered as one of the Hokkaidō Heritage sites in 2004, the museum is the best beer museum in Japan. The red-brick building was erected originally as a factory of the Sapporo Sugar Company in 1890, and later opened as a museum in 1987. The building also houses the Sapporo Beer Garden in the south wing.
The Sapporo Beer Garden is the only place where you can taste all of Hokkaido's greatest foods at one location.
Please come to the Sapporo Beer Garden and eat and drink as much Genghis Khan and beer as you can!

Beer in Japan
The four major beer producers in Japan are Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo, and Suntory producing mainly pale-colored light lagers with an alcohol strength of around 5.0% ABV. Pilsner style lagers are the most commonly produced beer style in Japan, but beer-like beverages, made with lower levels of malts called happoshu or non-malt happōsei have captured a large part of the market, as tax is substantially lower on these products.
Microbreweries have also gained increasing popularity since deregulation in 1994, supplying distinct tasting beers in a variety of styles that seek to match the emphasis on craftsmanship, quality, and ingredient provenance often associated with Japanese food.

The Naked Man Festival ★ ONLY in JAPAN #01 岡山「裸祭り」
On one of the winter's coldest nights in Japan, you will find 10,000 screaming men running the streets around Okayama's Saidaiji Temple naked except for a thin loin cloth. It's one of the most unusual sights you can see in Japan -- and it's also an festival you can take part in -- which is my experience recorded in this episode.
But I wanted to get a little deeper into the meaning of this festival so get ready for the complete story.
For over 500 years, Japan's third oldest festival is one of its most unique. 9000 mostly naked men celebrate in the cold for religious and traditional reasons and John is there to report as a participant.
We will look around the city of Okayama, it's castle, Korakuen, and go to Saidaiji temple to preview the fest.
In the evening, John gets ready with a group at a local company. Learn the insides of this amazing festival from from you need to enter, things to buy and the deep religious and spiritual meaning.
The Naked Man Festival or Hadaka Matsuri in Japanese is held on the third Saturday in February. You don't need to sign up in advance, but it helps if you go early and make friends. Just go and find a tent that will host you. The fee is about 3000 yen and you get access to the tent, the fundoshi (Japanese thong) and equipment, place to store your things and stay warm before and after.

Kabukichō, Tokyo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kabukichō (歌舞伎町?) is an entertainment and red-light district in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Kabukichō is the location of many host and hostess clubs, love hotels, shops, restaurants, and nightclubs, and is often called the Sleepless Town (眠らない街). The district's name comes from late-1940s plans to build a kabuki theater: although the theater was never built, the name stuck.
The area has many movie theaters, and is located near Shinjuku Station, Seibu Shinjuku Station, and several other major railway and subway stations.
History
Originally, the area was known as Tsunohazu (角筈?) and was a swamp. After the Meiji Period, the area became a duck sanctuary. As the Yodobashi Purification Plant was built in 1893, the ponds were filled in. In 1920, a girl's school was built there, and the surroundings were developed into a residential area. During World War II, the bombing of Tokyo in 1945 razed the area to the ground. After the war, a kabuki theatre was planned to be built there and the town changed its name to Kabukichō. Though the theatre was cancelled due to financial problems, the name remained. Kabukichō was quickly redeveloped after the war, mainly due to the efforts of the overseas Chinese in Japan who bought land left unused after the expos and greatly developed them. Examples of such people include the founder of Humax, Lin Yiwen, who started his business with a cabaret.
At present, Kabukichō has transformed from a residential area to a world famous red-light district housing over three thousand bars, nightclubs, love hotels, massage parlours, hostess clubs and the like. Although referred here as a red light district, there are no red lights in the literal sense with prostitutes in the windows as in Amsterdam. Recently, tourism from China and Korea are on the rise, and so, many tourists can be seen in Kabukichō even during daytime.
The Shinjuku Koma Theater has been a landmark in Kabukichō. Now in its third building, it has hosted concerts and other performances by top stars, including enka singers Saburō Kitajima, Kiyoshi Hikawa, and actor Ken Matsudaira. The management has announced that they will close after the December 31, 2008 show.
Crime
According to a spokesperson of Metropolitan Tokyo in 2004, there are more than 1,000 yakuza members in Kabukichō, and 120 different enterprises under their control.
Entering the new millennium, laws were more strictly enforced and patrols became more frequent. These, adding to the installation of fifty closed-circuit cameras in May 2002, reduced criminal activities in Kabukichō, amidst controversy.
In 2004, the police undertook an operation clamping down on illegal clubs and brothels, causing many to go out of business. Also, there is a movement to rid Kabukichō of the yakuza (bad hand gangs), known as the Kabukichō Renaissance.
