Nagasaki, Japan - 26 Martyrs Site & Glover Garden - 長崎
A few sites of interest in Nagasaki, including the 26 Martyrs Site where several Christians and converts were crucified on February 5, 1597. Also Glover House, home of a Scottish entrepreneur who had the house built in 1863.

Glover Garden グラバー園 is a park in Nagasaki, Japan built for Thomas Blake Glover, a Scottish merchant who contributed to the modernization of Japan in shipbuilding, coal mining, and other fields. In it stands the Glover Residence, the oldest Western style house surviving in Japan and Nagasaki's foremost tourist attraction.
It is located on the Minamiyamate hillside overlooking Nagasaki harbor. It was built by Hidenoshin Koyama of Amakusa island and completed in 1863. It has been designated as an Important Cultural Asset. As the house and its surroundings are reminiscent of Puccini's opera, it is also known as the Madame Butterfly House. Statues of Puccini and diva Miura Tamaki, famed for her role as Cio-Cio-san, stand in the park near the house. This house was also the venue of Glover's meetings with rebel samurai particularly from the Chōshū and Satsuma domains.
Commanding a stunning view of Nagasaki Harbour from its position on top of the hill of Minami-Yamate, this romantic area retains the atmosphere of a foreign settlement.

[Japan] Tribute to Sir. Thomas Blake Glover of Nagasaki
This video tries to show u who Sir. Thomas Blake Glover and his family were, based on the information available to me. Glover was sent to Japan at the time when Japan was changing drastically due to the outside pressure, mainly America/Commodore Perry, who came to Japan in 1853. Because of Perry, the people of Japan realized that they needed to readjust the position of their country in the world. The people of Japan were spread into pro-Bakufu/no change vs. anti-Bakuru/yes change..., struggling to find the way to Westernize/modernize the country.
In Scotland, Sir. Glover is called a Scottish Samurai; however, as in European countries, in Japan people of a merchant-class would never have become a Samurai (a Knight). In any rate, young Glover's association with Ryoma Sakamoto, Tosa Bushi, was simply an amazing encounter for it really changed the history of Japan/the world. And, if young Glover never had met Ryoma, perhaps Meiji Restoration would have been much challenging to complete. Two of the most powerful characters of the time... together shifted the paradigm of the world for good.
Enjoy and many thanks for watching... ; D Please also check my other videos...!! Don't forget to give a big thumbs up and subscribe.
P.S.) CORRECTION: in this video, the time A-bomb was dropped on Nagasaki is 11:02 a.m.

Walking trip around Glover Garden in Nagasaki, Japan.
Glover Garden is an open air museum in Nagasaki that exhibits mansions of several of the city's former foreign residents and related buildings. It is located on the hill where Western merchants settled down after the end of Japan's era of seclusion in the second half of the 19th century.
The main attraction of the garden is the Former Glover House, the oldest Western-style wooden building in Japan. Thomas Glover (1838-1911) was a Scottish merchant who moved to Nagasaki after the opening of its port to foreign trade in 1859. He later assisted some of the revolutionaries who would eventually overthrow the Tokugawa Shogunate in the Meiji Restoration. Active in various industries, including shipbuilding and mining, Glover features prominently in the early history of Japan's industrialisation. (japan-guide.com)
Nagasaki, Japan: The Glover Garden Open Air Museum
This video is longer than my usual ones. You may want to skim through but the Open Air Museum was not only very beautiful but interesting. Foreign diplomats and traders settled on this hill when Japan opened its doors to the world after the Meiji restoration in the mid-19th century.
Only three mansions here are original, the rest were moved from other locations. Don't miss Thomas Glover's favorite walking stick with the head of a dog in the video and the exquisite gardens with its many hydrangeas. So beautiful...
4K : Glover Garden and Dejima in Nagasaki
Glover garden and Dejima is very important evidence for the history of trading with other countries in Japan during the Edo period. Glover garden was used as the place where nonnative merchants live. Also, the government built an artificial island to use trade. This island called Dejima.

Nagasaki (長崎市 Nagasaki-shi?) ● Begin Japanoloy ● Ep 8 【 JAPAN DOCUMENTARY 2016】
Nagasaki (長崎市 Nagasaki-shi?) (About this sound listen (help·info)) is the capital and the largest city of Nagasaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan. It became a center of Portuguese and other European influence in the 16th through 19th centuries, and the Churches and Christian Sites in Nagasaki have been proposed for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Part of Nagasaki was home to a major Imperial Japanese Navy base during the First Sino-Japanese War and Russo-Japanese War. Its name means long cape.
During World War II, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki made Nagasaki the second and, to date, last city in the world to experience a nuclear attack.[1]
As of January 1, 2009, the city has an estimated population of 446,007 and a population density of 1,100 persons per km². The total area is 406.35 km².
