Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival | Japan Travel Vlog
In the beginning of the video I showed we were driving through the Hakkoda Mountains, they are a volcanic complex located in the south of Aomori City. The range consists of more than a dozen stratovolcanoes and lava domes arranged into two volcanic groups. This mountain range can get up to 14 feet + of snow. It’s not just the powder on the ground that makes Hakkoda unique - the mountain’s characteristic “Snow Monsters” make an unforgettable scenic backdrop. The Snow Monsters are produced when water droplets carried by strong seasonal winds clash with the evergreens and freeze in place to create unique shapes. There are only a select few mountains in Japan that have the unique climatic conditions necessary to produce these Snow Monsters, and Hakkoda is one of them.
As we were driving we stopped at Jigokunuma Pond. “The 4,500 meter crater lake was made by an eruption that occurred during the end of volcanic activity of Mt. Hakkoda (about 800 years ago) . As highly acid hot water (90 degrees C) spouts out 2,700L per minute from the pond, the place is suited to fish habitat.”
“The Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival takes place at Hirosaki Park which is home to the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, an annual event held in April that was selected as one of Japan’s 100 most famous cherry blossom spots, bringing in over 2 million people every year. The castle tower at the park along with the three watchtowers and five castle gates are also registered as important cultural properties. It is also known for being the place where the Hirosaki Domain resided which was ruled by the Tsugaru clan.
The Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival has been held every autumn since 1962. It serves as a reminder of autumn-time Hirosaki with around maple 1,000 trees dyeing the park in autumnal hues. The 2,600 or so cherry blossom trees there, which turn a beautiful pink in spring, also take on fall colours.
When the sun sets at the festival, the castle tower, gates and the park are lit up with bright illuminations. The park is made even more beautiful by the glowing trees and illumined castle which cast reflections on the water surface.”
Unfortuntely we were not able to stay until the illumination because we wanted to be able to safely drive home before it got dark on the mountain. We had such a fun day celebrating the last bit of fall foliage of 2019.

The Cradle of Japanese Aviation: Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park and Museum
Being the home of what used to be Japan's first airfield, Tokorozawa can be considered the cradle of Japanese aviation. While the airfield does not exist anymore, the place is now home to Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park and Tokorozawa Aviation Museum. In this video, I show you what both of those are like.
Located less than an hour from central Tokyo and easily accessible by train, the Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park and museum are a great place to visit on a day trip.
The park has a lot of green spaces, as well as playsets, basketball courts, and other facilities, and so it's a great place to visit not only for aircraft enthusiasts but also for families and so on.
Similarly, the museum is a place worth visiting if you like aircraft, but also if you are just looking to escape the bustle of Tokyo and learn something new. Some of the aircraft you will be able to see on your visit include a NAMC YS-11, a Curtiss C-46, and a North American T-6.
Inside the museum, there are not only the actual aircraft, but also many interactive exhibits teaching the basics of flight as well as the history of aviation, and so it's a place that children will enjoy a lot too.
While most of the descriptions and other things are only in Japanese, some of them are bilingual. Regardless of that, though, you will have a great time no matter if you speak Japanese or not.
You can find details about the days the museum's open here:

Japan Travel: Laughter, Cherry Blossom, Samurai, History at Hiroshima Castle, Hiroshima 07 Moochan
Located slightly north from the downtown area of Hiroshima city, is Hiroshima Castle or Hiroshima-jo. The castle was built in 1589 by Mori Terumoto, a member of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s council. Hiroshima Castle is a flatland castle.
The castle tower of Hiroshima Castle was designated as a National Treasure in 1931. However, the castle was destroyed by the atomic bomb. In 1958, the castle was rebuilt. Visitors today will see both the moat as well as the stone fortress traditionally seen at Japanese castles. The entire castle has been designated as a Historic Site.
Visitors are allowed into the castle for a nominal fee. The interior is now a museum displaying local culture as well as samurai history. The museum allows visitors to try on clothing from the past. Samurai armor, kimono for the ladies are available for those who wish to try them on as a special Hiroshima memory. The castle stairs are quite steep but those who do utilize them to arrive at the top floor of the castle are greeted with a beautiful view of the city.
Visitors may see joggers around the moat as Hiroshima Castle is a popular jogging course. Visitors may also see school students drawing the castle in their sketchbooks. In the spring, the grounds surrounding the castle are famous for cherry blossom picnic. And in the autumn, a “food festival” is held on the grounds surrounding the castle. Local vendors as well as from all over Japan serve mouthwatering dishes at the festival.
Hiroshima Castle held an important role in Hiroshima and its surrounding prefectures in Japanese history. Today, this important culture treasure is a place to laugh, enjoy and create new memories.

Disaffected Japanese retreat to the countryside
SHOTLIST
Wakayama/Osaka - June 2nd/15th/16th. Pachiko Parlor, Osaka - 16th 2008.
1. Wide Bullet train.
2. Ebisu Arcade, near Dotonburi, Osaka
3. Various men playing Pachinko in a Kobe Pachinko parlour.
4. Various set up shots of Tsuji Shinichi at Osaka Namba Park's Catalogue House
5. SOUNDBITE (Japanese.) Tsuji Shinichi, Environmentalist, author and Professor at Meiji University in Tokyo.
The speed with which humanity is moving is so fast that the earth cannot keep up. You can't adjust the speed with which the earth moves so humans have to return to a more humane pace. Regaining harmony between humanity, other living creatures and the earth, this is what I mean by slow. A group of friends and I decided to call a lifestyle that values this connection Slow Life.
7. Various of restaurant owner Nakamine Yukimi and her colleague Sato Nami planting rice seedlings in her family's rice paddy. Nakamine's restaurant 'Boku' is in the background.
9. Soundbite (Japanese.) Tsuji Shinichi
'U turn', just like the shape, refers to the phenomenon of people moving away from the countryside, living in cities and then returning to the countryside. I turn refers to those people who have previously only experienced cities who move to the countryside. Linking both these terms forms another expression UI turn. In Japanese 'Yuii' is a word that denotes the idea of mutual support in rural communities of the past.
10. Wide Kani Danraku a famous landmark in Osaka's Dotonburi district.
11. Fade in street in Dotonburi district.
12. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi, restaurant owner who returned to live in the countryside after spending some time in the city
The restaurant that I worked in was in (Osaka's) Dotonburi district. It's really crowded.
13. Various Dotonburi district
14. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi
I was working from morning until late at night. It wasn't so much that I lived in Osaka it was just constant work. I was tired, the air was polluted, it was a tough period in my life.
15. Various of Nakamine and Sato in the kitchen of Nakamine' restaurant.
16. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi
The reason that I opened the restaurant was that when thinking about the best way to serve and prepare the vegetables I was growing, I came to the conclusion that I could make a better job of it than the restaurant that I was working in at the time and that I should prepare the vegetables myself and serve them to customers myself.
17. Various restaurant.
18. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi
To me a U-turn lifestyle really means being conscious of yourself as a part of nature.
19. Various of restaurant customers and food.
20. Soundbite (Japanese.) Tsuji Shinichi, Environmentalist, author and Professor at Meiji University in Tokyo.
The global environmental crisis has become so profound that people are adopting a new and different set of values to the past. On the basis of those values, they are attempting to find happiness while at the same time trying to find solutions to the earth's environmental crisis. I think this has begun to happen.
21. Tilt up of Namine Yukimi and Sato Nami
LEAD IN:
Japan is famous for bullet trains, noisy Pachinko video gaming parlours, and densely populated cities.
But in recent years, a growing number of Japanese people have become disillusioned with the values and lifestyles that shaped previous decades.
For them, a closer relationship with nature is a more preferable way of life. For some this has meant leaving cities altogether and moving into the countryside.
STORY LINE
One of the Japanese phrases that captures the desire to find lifestyles closer to nature is Slow Life.

Bodhi J.M.S Ryder creator of the Manga series The Curseborn Saga chats with Galaxy
In this episode Bodhi J.M.S Ryder creator of the Manga hit series The Curseborn Sage chats with your favorite host Galaxy about his amazing life, living with monks, and what led him to where he is at today.
Bodhi is an adventurer, author, rock climber, and overall seeker of conquering the impossible. He was around 20 years old when he first moved to Japan with a backpack of belongings and the dream to see a different world. He lived in a village called Hirosaki for two years while studying the culture and teaching English to middle school students. At the age of 23, not long after returning from Japan, Bodhi picked up a pen and began creating his first project, the Curseborn Saga with two of his best mates (Squall D. Ace | Simon Gatsu Sandoval) and his brother (Elnath D. Shanks). At the time, Bodhi was trying to balance finishing up his degree in Japanese while teaching himself how to create and write. Despite his best attempts, he eventually dropped out of University, choosing to dedicate his heart and soul to writing. He decided to choose his own teachers in the form of his favorite authors, and looked for ways to sharpen his abilities through their published work. At 27, close to the end of finishing the first book, Bodhi went through an emotional heartbreak with the love of his life, and nearly abandoned the project. With his life in shambles, Bodhi left the US on a one way flight to Paris, where he ended up going on the adventure of his life, backpacking through six countries including France, Italy, and the Netherlands. Upon taking the ferry from Italy to Barcelona, he decided to test the true limitations of myself and bicycled across Spain with only an old map he found on the streets to guide him. During his journey across Spain, his Camino de Santiago if you will, he met his brother in Pamplona, and together they ran with the bulls. Hemingway had it right. There is something majestic about Pamplona and the people who live there, but that is another story altogether. After Spain, Bodhi ended up selling the bicycle he had bought in Italy for 40 euro and hitch-hiking with four Australians to surf Biarritz and Hossegor in France. It was a journey unlike anything else he had ever done, and somewhere along the way he realized that he couldn't abandon everything he had started. People lose sometimes. That doesn't make them weak. But what makes you strong is continuing despite that loss. Finding what he was looking for inside, Bodhi returned home to finish what he started, to become something he had not been before, and to carve his name into the stars with the help of his friends, his family and the dreams that have guided him thus far on this wild ride.

THE TRUTH About the JET (JAPAN EXCHANGE & TEACHING) Program// My Experience Teaching Abroad
The truth about the JET Program & what it's all about.I am not trying to put JET in a negative light. The JET Program is great for people who want to experience Japan and are nervous to move or get their foot in the door with working in Japan. I learned a lot of life skills before changing jobs and finding my way through this crazy life! I do recommend them. My situation was just...different.

Japan 2015: Part IV - Koya-san

Also, we visit Okunoin, the resting place of Kukai-san.
Sleeping With Spiders In Tokushima ★Japan Vlog 4★ (2014)
For breakfast I get to enjoy some Takoyaki & Cat Cake. We then hop on a bus, get a beautiful ride through Kobe, Cross the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, take a break at Murozu, & arrive at Tokushima. We then get to explore some shops and see how a standard transmission vehicle works on the right side. When we get to the place we are staying, it is very old traditional style Japanese house. Later we go for a walk and experience our first Japanese Shrine. Back at the house we get greeted with some spider roommates that will be staying with us for the night. I then get talked into going to a Public Bath House and It turned out to be the most refreshing experience of my life. We top it all off with a Japanese home cooked meal & drink tons of alcohol.
