A DAY IN MY LIFE HERE IN JAPAN | ANVYsyosang Vlog 26
March 2017, I arrived here in Japan for work. Since then, I have been living in the dormitory provided by the company. That was my first time to travel abroad, live alone and so much more. I am just so lucky to have Arvy with me here as well as his whole family. Napakahirap maging OFW pero proud ako sa sarili ko na kinaya ko kahit 1st time ko????.

Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival | Japan Travel Vlog
In the beginning of the video I showed we were driving through the Hakkoda Mountains, they are a volcanic complex located in the south of Aomori City. The range consists of more than a dozen stratovolcanoes and lava domes arranged into two volcanic groups. This mountain range can get up to 14 feet + of snow. It’s not just the powder on the ground that makes Hakkoda unique - the mountain’s characteristic “Snow Monsters” make an unforgettable scenic backdrop. The Snow Monsters are produced when water droplets carried by strong seasonal winds clash with the evergreens and freeze in place to create unique shapes. There are only a select few mountains in Japan that have the unique climatic conditions necessary to produce these Snow Monsters, and Hakkoda is one of them.
As we were driving we stopped at Jigokunuma Pond. “The 4,500 meter crater lake was made by an eruption that occurred during the end of volcanic activity of Mt. Hakkoda (about 800 years ago) . As highly acid hot water (90 degrees C) spouts out 2,700L per minute from the pond, the place is suited to fish habitat.”
“The Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival takes place at Hirosaki Park which is home to the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, an annual event held in April that was selected as one of Japan’s 100 most famous cherry blossom spots, bringing in over 2 million people every year. The castle tower at the park along with the three watchtowers and five castle gates are also registered as important cultural properties. It is also known for being the place where the Hirosaki Domain resided which was ruled by the Tsugaru clan.
The Hirosaki Castle Chrysanthemum and Autumn Foliage Festival has been held every autumn since 1962. It serves as a reminder of autumn-time Hirosaki with around maple 1,000 trees dyeing the park in autumnal hues. The 2,600 or so cherry blossom trees there, which turn a beautiful pink in spring, also take on fall colours.
When the sun sets at the festival, the castle tower, gates and the park are lit up with bright illuminations. The park is made even more beautiful by the glowing trees and illumined castle which cast reflections on the water surface.”
Unfortuntely we were not able to stay until the illumination because we wanted to be able to safely drive home before it got dark on the mountain. We had such a fun day celebrating the last bit of fall foliage of 2019.

The speed with which humanity is moving is so fast that the earth cannot keep up. You can't adjust the speed with which the earth moves so humans have to return to a more humane pace. Regaining harmony between humanity, other living creatures and the earth, this is what I mean by slow. A group of friends and I decided to call a lifestyle that values this connection Slow Life.
7. Various of restaurant owner Nakamine Yukimi and her colleague Sato Nami planting rice seedlings in her family's rice paddy. Nakamine's restaurant 'Boku' is in the background.

'U turn', just like the shape, refers to the phenomenon of people moving away from the countryside, living in cities and then returning to the countryside. I turn refers to those people who have previously only experienced cities who move to the countryside. Linking both these terms forms another expression UI turn. In Japanese 'Yuii' is a word that denotes the idea of mutual support in rural communities of the past.
10. Wide Kani Danraku a famous landmark in Osaka's Dotonburi district.
11. Fade in street in Dotonburi district.
12. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi, restaurant owner who returned to live in the countryside after spending some time in the city
The restaurant that I worked in was in (Osaka's) Dotonburi district. It's really crowded.

14. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi
I was working from morning until late at night. It wasn't so much that I lived in Osaka it was just constant work. I was tired, the air was polluted, it was a tough period in my life.
15. Various of Nakamine and Sato in the kitchen of Nakamine' restaurant.
16. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi
The reason that I opened the restaurant was that when thinking about the best way to serve and prepare the vegetables I was growing, I came to the conclusion that I could make a better job of it than the restaurant that I was working in at the time and that I should prepare the vegetables myself and serve them to customers myself.

18. Soundbite (Japanese.) Nakamine Yukimi
To me a U-turn lifestyle really means being conscious of yourself as a part of nature.
19. Various of restaurant customers and food.
20. Soundbite (Japanese.) Tsuji Shinichi, Environmentalist, author and Professor at Meiji University in Tokyo.
The global environmental crisis has become so profound that people are adopting a new and different set of values to the past. On the basis of those values, they are attempting to find happiness while at the same time trying to find solutions to the earth's environmental crisis. I think this has begun to happen.

LEAD IN:
Japan is famous for bullet trains, noisy Pachinko video gaming parlours, and densely populated cities.
But in recent years, a growing number of Japanese people have become disillusioned with the values and lifestyles that shaped previous decades.
For them, a closer relationship with nature is a more preferable way of life. For some this has meant leaving cities altogether and moving into the countryside.
STORY LINE
One of the Japanese phrases that captures the desire to find lifestyles closer to nature is Slow Life.

AOMORI Hirosaki City Samurai Houses 弘前 武家屋敷巡り
Hirosaki City is about 40km southwest of Aomori City.
Hirosaki used to be a capital of the region.
It was developed as a castle town surrounding the Hirosaki Castle.
We stroll around outside of the Hirosaki castle.
There is an area of several Samurai Houses conserved very well.
They take you back to the Japanese old days!!
And they are open to public for FREE!!
It's worth to visit.
Samurai houses were typically modest dwellings.
But only samurai houses were allowed to have walls and gates.
Naka-cho area is designated as the historical house preservation area due to being preserved very well with the features of traditional samurai houses.

Japan Rail Trip #23: Hakodate to Akita - Akita food Izakaya 函館から秋田へー秋田の民芸酒場
Nige & June took a train to Akita from Hakodate, which was quite long journey. We stopped by Morioka, Iwate prefecture to transfer from express train to Shinkansen.
View from Akita Shinkansen was so beautiful. River, mountain and nature... There was famous big lake 'Tazawa-ko' where we could not go this time, we wanted to visit there sometime.
Finally arrived at Akita city. Long arcade. Stayed Japan's business hotel chain. There was an Onsen there though small.
Good thing was that we visited Akita style local food Izakaya (pub restaurant). The restaurant interior was unique, you can't even see other areas of Japan. We just missed 'Namahage' show, Namahage was famous Akita monster.
The food there was so tasty and nice. Wanting to go again.

Christmas & New Year's Eve in Japan | 1st Travel Vlog!
This is my 1st attempt at vlogging! Here's a quick recap of Christmas & New Year's Eve in Japan. This is the 1st year that I stayed in Japan for the holidays and it's very different than in the US. Christmas is a day for couples to spend time together and eat fried chicken from KFC! Families get together on NYE and celebrate at home or at a shrine. The next day, they have a special dinner at home.
