Zanzibar- Forodhani Park 17.11.2016
Forodhani Park (also known as Jubilee Gardens) is a small park of about 3-4 acres located on the seafront of Stone Town, very close to 3 other historical landmarks of Zanzibar namely Arab Fort, House of Wonders and Palace Museum. The gardens were laid out in 1936 to venerate the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Sultan Khalifa (who reigned 1911-60) and were called the Jubilee Gardens until the Revolution of 1964. The Agha Khan Trust for Culture renovated the Park in 2010. Thereafter the Park has become a favorite spot for the tourists and locals alike. The park is particularly crowded after sunset, when tourists and local alike gather in a popular food street market in the main square. Before the Park was laid out here in 1936, the place was occupied by another great palace named Bait-ul-Hukum which was destroyed by British bombardment in 1927. The Garden has many trees planted by visiting dignitaries. It is now a great social hub and one of the most attractive places in Zanzibar.

Forodhani Gardens Night Food Market, Zanzibar, Tanzania
Forodhani Gardens host a nightly open-air food market in its main square, where vendors sell grilled seafood, kebabs, Zanzibar pizza, and other snacks. It makes an interesting and relaxed stroll though touts are quite persistent in trying to convince you to buy from their stalls. The market is worth a visit for the atmosphere, though you have to be adventurous to try out the food!

Stone Town, Zanzibar ◆ Forodhani Park ◆ Slave Market
While backpacking for several months around the world, I spent several months exploring East Africa. Zanzibar, a small, beautiful island off the coast of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, was my home for a few weeks. When I'm backpacking, I don't like to pre-plan; however, I was insistent about securing a local who could provide me with an unabridged discourse on the history and culture of this community that took my breath away.
My handpicked tour guide, a born-and-raised local, picked me up at my hostel before our day of exploration. The content of this video includes some of the most notable tourist destinations, but I am not fond of being a tourist, which my guide helped me to...stand out less, lol, but not by much. :)
During my one-on-one culture adventure, my guide personally escorted me to an array of historic sites, while answering all of my questions. Being that I am a psychologist, I had a bunch! :)
The content of the video includes, but it not limited to, the following:
Former East African Slave Trade Market, which is now The Cathedral Church of Christ
Slave Trade Exhibit (extremely emotional for me)
Old Fort of Zanzibar
House of Wonders
Sultan's Palace
Forodhani Park / Gardens
Local Markets
Stone Town (Old Town)
My hostel accommodations
I hope you enjoy, and respect, the history of this beautiful island. All of the locals were extremely friendly, and they always went out of their way to help me. In Old Town, it is truly a maze, which you will absolutely get lost it. I walked home, completely lost, many nights, and someone always lended me a hand, and ensured that I arrived home safely. There is virtually no crime.
It was an honor to visit Zanzibar, and I actually extended my trip to spend a couple weeks longer than originally planned (I had a ticket to Bangkok, which I postponed).
Please do not hesitate to ask any questions. I LOVE Zanzibar, and I would happily return for an extended stay.

2Days Around Zanzibar -Tanzania || Paje, Stone town
What's there to do in Zanzibar? Well there's alot of things to do in Zanzibar from kitesurfing at Paje beach to eating at the rock and partying at Waikiki beach party overnight. I also loved it in stone town, getting lost in the oldest part of Zanzibar city also a unesco heritage site checking out it's unique history, beautiful architectures, magnificently carved wooden doors not forgetting the old fort, house of wonder, mercury's among others. Nothing could be more refreshing than ending the day at the Forodhani gardens eating seafood and trying some other Zanzibar recipes amidst admiring the magical sunset. I'll soon publish a post on Zanzibar, feeding you with all the juicy details.
