Fort Abercrombie North Dakota State Historic Site
Sutler Traders Post is one of the many buildings still standing at Fort Abercrombie North Dakota State Historic Site. The Fort established in 1857, opened in 1860 and is adjacent to the Wild Rice River.
You can tour the Old Soldier buildings at Fort Abercrombie Stat Historic Site. Entering the buildings can be like stepping back in time. There's also rumors of paranormal activity in the buildings. Back in the day these areas were populated with Native Americans as well as new settlers like those that were first housed at the Fort Abercrombie State Historical Site.
Picnicking along the shores of the Wild Rice River is a good way to end an educational family outing day. Families bring their kids out here to teach them about American History. The area I live in near Fort Abercrombie North Dakota State Historic Site is rich with history.

The Tale of Two Sisters - The Stagecoach Arrives in Fort Abercrombie
Today we can arrange travel anywhere around the world with a few clicks of a mouse button. But in 1859, the journey for two young sisters traveling from their homes in Scotland along the Red River to the Canadian frontier was fraught with uncertainty and historic importance.

About the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund
In 2008, Minnesota voters passed a landmark piece of legislation — the Minnesota Clean Water, Land, and Legacy Amendment — which provided funding to public television stations serving audiences in Minnesota. Its mission is to help preserve and document the treasures of culture, history, and heritage that make Minnesota special, and to increase access to the natural and cultural resources we all share.

Fort Abercrombie North Dakota Wild Rice River Day 8 of 90 Day Video Challenge
Find out how I worked along the Wild Rice River today, near the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site.
The Wild Rice River flows through Fort Abercrombie North Dakota. Fort Abercrombie was an active traders fort in the early 1860's. The sounds of the river have always calmed me and brought peace within. I live 15 miles South of the fort. In Breckenridge Minnesota. Also along where three rivers meet. I enjoy getting outdoors, along the Wild Rice River banks, and just taking it all in.
Besides the Wild Rice River, and the Fort, Abercrombie can boast as being a State Historic Site. North Dakota land near the rivers was populated by American Indians. This was due to the ease of being able to travel along the Wild Rice River in canoes. Fort Abercrombie was a popular trading fort for the soldiers.
The Old Soldiers Fort buildings still stand in Fort Abercrombie, North Dakota. It's a perfect spot for visitors, travelers, or even for a family outing. You can picnic near the Wild Rice River after visiting the buildings and museum. I remember visiting the Fort when younger. You get a good feel of what it was like to live back in the 1860's.

Civil War Re-enactment Training, Fort Abercrombie- KVRR
A group of Civil War reenactors here in the valley is training some of its newer members.
The 5th Minnesota Infantry Company D travels across the area to showcase how military life was in the Civil War era.
Fort Buford
Fort Buford was a United States Army Post at the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers in Dakota Territory, present day North Dakota, and the site of Sitting Bull's surrender in 1881.
Company C, 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry, 3 officers, 80 enlisted men and 6 civilians commanded by Capt. (Brevet Lt. Col.) William G. Rankin, first established a camp on the site on June 15, 1866, with orders to build a post, the majority of which was built using adobe and cottonwood enclosed by a wooden stockade. The fort was named after the late Major General John Buford, a Union Army cavalry general during the American Civil War.
