Fort Amherst Chatham Historic walk
Fort Amherst, in Medway, South East England, was constructed in 1756 at the southern end of the Brompton lines of defence to protect the southeastern approaches to Chatham Dockyard and the River Medway against a French invasion. Fort Amherst is now open as a visitor attraction throughout the year with tours provided through the tunnel complex.
Brompton St Barbara the garrison church is in Maxwell Road Gillingham. It serves the nearby Army Barracks and the Royal School of Military Engineering. Brompton Barracks has been home to the Royal Engineers since 1812 and now includes the Royal Engineers Museum.
The church dates from 1854 and has been designated a grade II listed building by English Heritage.
Chatham Naval memorial
Overlooking the town of Chatham in Kent is the Chatham Naval Memorial. It commemorates more than 8,500 Royal Navy personnel of the First World War and over 10,000 of the Second World War who were lost or buried at sea.
More than 45,000 men and women lost their lives while serving with the Royal Navy during the First World War. After the Armistice, the naval authorities and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission were determined to find an appropriate way to commemorate naval personnel who had no grave.
Fort Amherst
Fort Amherst was built in 1756 in Chatham to protect the approaches to Chatham Dockyard and the River Medway against the French.
In 1820, because of improvements in artillery equipment and greater firing ranges, the defences were declared obsolete.
The fort was last used in WWII as an Air Raid Warning command post. Some of it is now a tourist attraction.

Urban Exploration Series Episode 6: Chatham Reservoir/Fort Amherst Lines
Following commencement in the construction of the very large, new Chatham Naval Barracks in 1900, it was decided that a new source of water would be required to alleviate the pressure on existing supplies the increase in demand that was bound to occur when they were completed and occupied . The reservoir was formed in the southern half of the abandoned hormwork fortifications on the Inner Lines at Brompton. It was fed with water pumped from the two artesian wells in the Dockyard and could hold 19,477 tons of water, the equivalent to a capacity of 4,362,848 gallons.

The Great Lines and Fort Amherst, Chatham, Kent.
This is a walk i took starting of on The Great Lines and then going into Fort Amherst, at Chatham, Kent. It does start of noisy with the wind but does eventually go into bird song. The bridge that you see in the film, about half way through, has now been completely re-newed and is open to the public to walk across. A great place to visit.
