IACMJ Project - Fort Charles
You who tread in his footprint, remember his glory ...Immerse yourself in the rich history of the city once known as the richest and wickedest by visiting Fort Charles, Port Royal which started with 37 guns and grew into a garrison of more than 2500 men. Emerged as Fort Cromwell, Fort Charles was the first fort to be erected at Port Royal in the late 1650s to guard the city from the Spanish and is the only one left standing following the momentous earthquake of 1692. Also shaped by history and located on site; are the tilted storehouse known as the Giddy House and the Fort Charles Maritime Museum which once housed the British Royal Navy including Lieutenant Nelson whose private quarters is featured.

Negril Lighthouse and Fort Charlotte
Join me and my daughter as we take a Sunday drive form Montego Bay to Negril! Along the way we try to discover new hidden spots and attractions that might be off the beaten path.
We start our journey in Montego Bay and head westward towards Negril, after driving through the town of Hopewell, we made our first stop at a beach that has a rusted shipwreck where you can still see the boiler for the engine and the outline of the boat.
We then stopped right before The Grand Palladium Hotel and turned into a very rough road that leads to a hidden beach! A beautiful spot with rocks and a small but clear water beach. We took some pics and moved on.
After passing Lucea, we stopped at Fort Charlotte, and old Fort built in 1746 to protect Jamaica's North West from naval attacks. In 1761 it was given the name Fort Charlotte in honor of King George III's marriage to queen Charlotte. It has a great view of the Lucea bay and there are still some cannons on display. It needs renovation but still worth a stop.
Our drive continued and we made our usual stop over at Bull’s Bay village to take in the beautiful view. Once you have the time and, in the area, you should always make time to stop.
We found our way to the seven-mile beach as we drove into Negril. We stopped for lunch and continued along the west end.
Our goal was the Negril Lighthouse, it was a great site to see an old structure still standing and being used. We talked to someone on property and was able to walk around and get a good view of the lighthouse. It being Negril, the views were also great, we saw hotels on the rocky cliffs and of course, blue clear water. It was unfortunately locked, and we could not get to climb it, but it was still worth it.
The next and last stop was Rick’s Café, the famous bar along the cliffs, we relaxed and watched the cliff jumping and even saw one of the lifeguards jump from the 100ft post. It is always good to go to Rick’s Café and see how beautiful it all is.
After a packed day, we took out time and drove back home.
Hope you all enjoy!!!
