Ultimate Travel Guide // St.Croix, USVI - hidden gem of Caribbean Americas // Christiansted
In this Episode our family got to the island of St.Croix, USVI. The first destination of ours was the old historic town of Christiansted, - the lively, bustling heart of the island. St.Croix is reach in history, charming and less crowded than other US Virgin Islands as it lays in splendid isolation, about 40 miles, from other Virgin Islands. The island almost completely surrounded by a coral reef barrier system and known by diving enthusiasts as an underrated place for diving!
Personally, for me it was pretty difficult to make this video as we had spent quite a long time on the island discovering it on land and underwater. We love so much about the island with its amazing the friendliest atmosphere, charming historical oblique and modern life, that it makes difficult to choose what to show... than I decided that this is our traveling diary and I’m not a professional film maker... I’ll just show you a little of everything! ;))
In this Episode you will find us:

8:00-2:18 - wandering around historic district, enjoying peaceful and friendly vibes of old town, the feel given by charming courtyards, shaded walkways and stone arches. There are a lot of points of interest on the way, historical ruins and old churches. St.Croix is famed by its artists and we will be visiting couple of art galleries on the way. Also you will find many interesting small boutiques with assortment of truly unique goods, handmade jewelry and so on for duty free prices. And this is only a brief glimpse of the old town!
12:27-14:59 - Chilling by the white sandy beach of Buck Island Reef National Monument and snorkeling its sparkling clear turquoise water, discovering variety of rich marine life by following underwater marked trail;

ST Croix Christiansted US Virgin Islands Sunrise with islands waves in the background
Built by the Danes in the mid-18th Century, this small and charming town is composed of graceful neo-classical buildings, many of which contain hotels, shops and restaurants. Everything is lovingly maintained; each block is filled with unique architectural details and fascinating historical artifacts. In fact, the entire area around the wharf has been designated the Christiansted National Historic Site, including yellow-brick Fort Christiansvaern (1749), which once protected townspeople from pirates. Sitting at harbor's edge, the pastel blue, green and ochre buildings are trimmed in crisp white with red tin roofs. The abundance of ochre, or mustard yellow, comes from the Danish yellow brick brought over from Denmark as ship's ballast during the 18th century Lush green hills provide Christiansted's backdrop. Alleyways filled with unique shops lead off a waterfront boardwalk. The town has several small hotels, many cozy eateries, bars, and a number of must-see historic sites and museums. Your first stop in town should be the National Park Service's Visitor's Center, located in the historic Fort Christianvaern, which is part of the Christiansted National Historic Site. Pick up a free walking tour map to make sure you do not miss any of the important landmarks. The local government also has the Christiansted Visitor's Center at 53A Company Street. Buck Island and Christiansted, St Croix USVI
This is a video of a Big Beard Snorkling excursion I took and the drone footage of the town of Christiansted, St. Croix, USVI I shot on the same day. Featured is Fort Christiansvaern, the Christiansted boardwalk, The Hotel on the Cay, and the surrounding area. All aerial footage was shot with the DJI Mavic Pro and the rest was shot with the THIEYE T5e action camera. The music is by Dezarie, a local artist from St. Croix. I do not own the rights to the music.

First Time Visiting St.Croix U.S.V.I
In this video, I took a short getaway to St.Croix to visit my lovely sis. Even though it was a day and a half trip, I had an amazing time.
St. Croix is one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, in the Caribbean. Bright yellow Fort Christiansvaern is among Christiansted National Historic Site’s Danish colonial buildings. West, St. George Village Botanical Gardens occupies an old sugar plantation. Point Udall’s Millennium Monument marks the easternmost point of U.S. territory. North, Salt River Bay National Park has archaeological sites, mangroves and coral reefs.
I’ll will be returning for a next visit and hope to do a lot more activities.

Caribbean Gem: Buck Island Reef National Monument premiered during NPS-STX lecture series on February 13, 2014 in Christiansted, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. Public Service Announcement for screening below:
CHRISTIANSTED -- This month we will present to the public the premier of Caribbean Gem: Buck Island Reef National Monument. This ten minute film was made over the course of last year in celebration of 50 years of protection and resource management at Buck Island Reef NM. The film highlights the park's primary resources and the recreational opportunities that the monument provides our on-island and off-island visitors. Buck Island Reef NM is the first of our three National Park units on St. Croix to have a park orientation film of this kind.
This occasion will be the first where the film is seen by the general public. It will be distributed to a variety of tourism and promotional venues on and off-island in the coming months. On Thursday night we will show the film a couple of times and also take comments from the public regarding how and where the film should be shown. At the same time, we hope that the film will renew support for the park as we move ahead into the next decades of management for the Park. Park staff will be on hand to discuss the film and any other general questions.
The film was produced during FY2013 with North Shore Productions of Portland, Oregon and consultation with the Harper's Ferry Center. Some local cinematographers were used in the shooting of the film's terrestrial and underwater scenes. The park's Interpretation and Education and Resource Management divisions worked together with the producers to generate a local-eye view of the terrestrial and marine resources at the park. This collaboration required underwater footage of the coral reef and marine garden area, as well as late night footage of Hawksbill turtles laying their eggs. The film, while brief, also looks back at the severity of the bleaching events during the early 2000s and discusses the new threats to the reef from the Pacific Lion Fish. It is a great overall look at what Buck Island Reef National Monument continues to protect, 52 years after President John F. Kennedy established the park in December of 1961.
The premier screening/lecture will be held from 5:30-6:30 PM in the Danish Guinea West India Company Warehouse/ Slave Market Building. The Christiansted National Historic Site parking lot will be 'free' and open for this event until 7:00 PM.
The National Park Service thanks all of our community members and friends for 52 years of support for Buck Island and look forward to an exciting year of events celebrating our unique resource.

Whim Plantation & St. George Village Botanical Gardens in St. Croix
St. Croix's Age of Prosperity that took place in the second half of the 18th century is celebrated here. Once over 300 Danish estates, today the ruins of the sugar mills make for an interesting tour, along with Scottish steam engines for crushing and distilling. Demonstrations and exhibits re-create the bygone era of the wealthy plantation owner. For those that enjoy pleasure gardens, the St. George Village Botanical Gardens near Frederiksted showcase over 1500 tropical plants on 16 acres of land that was once an Arawak village. Later, it was a Danish sugar plantation, then a cattle ranch, finally becoming the botanical gardens in 1972. The gardens are meticulously kept around the ruins of a 19th century sugar plantation.
