Fort Dodge, Iowa Historical Tour
Fort Dodge is a city of distinctive neighborhoods created by the creeks and rivers which divide the city, by periods of development, and by ethnic settlement. All reflect the richness of the city's history.
We'll show you 3 significant areas of Fort Dodge:
1) The Oak Hill Neighborhood which includes homes built from 1871 to 1910.
2) The Snell Addition which reflects the influences of the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. The large gracious homes date from 1910 until 1925.
3) Fort Dodge's downtown business district which reflect the golden age of the city from 1900-1920. Early in the 20th century skyscrapers were considered any building 5 or more stories high. At one time Fort Dodge claimed to have more skyscrapers per capita than any other city in the nation.

Some resources for those who have been abused:
Thank you everyone for your support! I feel that I should clarify a few things that have been brought up via comments on other blogs. The police were notified per their anonymous tip line by people who risked their own reputation. Nothing was done. As stated in the comments (I understand that people don't have time to go through them all), there have been attempts to prosecute over a span of several years and prosecuting attorneys. Nothing happened. I know for a fact that members of the police force were members there. I am unsure if they still are.
Frustration, yes. Sad, yes. Fear, yes. Hatred, no. Wants justice, yes. Anger, perhaps. Often, harshness comes from a desire for strength and an even stronger desire to not break down.
There is nothing wrong with practicing a religion. There is something wrong with abuse. There is something wrong with secrecy and coverups. Unfortunately, in many church circles, these things often go hand in hand.
Churches often cover up crimes in their churches. They do this to protect their ministry, which is supposed to be about helping people. This causes further damage to the victim. There are many homes scattered around the United States where children are sent to in the hopes that their rebellion will be quashed. In combination with the abandonment issues and the abuse that occurs in these schools, emotional wounds, which never fully heal, form on top of the other wounds that were there by growing up in such a restrictive religion. Healing is very important and cannot happen if there is not an acknowledgement of wrongdoing by those who did wrong. Forgiveness is nearly impossible if there is no request for it. People need to be held accountable for their actions. Please help make that so.
