Visiting Fort George | Grenada Vlog

This weekend, Maggie and I went into the town of St. George's and visited Fort George. It is where Prime Minister Maurice Bishop was assassinated. It was destroyed during Hurricane Ivan, but you can still see the tunnels and get great views.

Der Staat Grenada (State of Grenada), ist eine Insel der Kleinen Antillen.
Grenada gehört zu den „Inseln im Winde.
Der Wahlspruch von Grenada: „Immer auf Gott vertrauend streben, bauen und schreiten wir als ein Volk voran.

Die Franzosen gründeten die Hauptstadt von Grenada, St. George's, 1650 als Fort Royal.

Auf den Hügeln, die die Stadt umgeben, gibt es zwei Forts: Fort George und Fort Frederick.
Fort George wurde im Jahre 1705 von den Franzosen erbaut.
Die Festung ist für Besucher geöffnet.

Grenada ist auch als Gewürzinsel bekannt.
Die wichtigsten Exportgüter sind Bananen, Zucker, Kakaobohnen, Kakao, Muskatnuss, Muskatblüte, Nelken, Vanille, Zimt und Ingwer.

Aus dem Reiseführer : Grenadas reizvolle Hauptstadt auf den Hügeln rund um den Hafen erbaut, verströmt mit ihren pastellfarbenen Backsteinfassaden, schmiedeeisernen Balkonen und roten Dächern noch einen Hauch der Kolonialzeit. Natürlich gibt es wieder ein Fort, Fort George. Etwas Besonderes ist der Sendall Tunnel, er führt vom Carenage zur Esplanade Mall.

Chris on Cruise … Grenada, mit dem Wassertaxi von „St.George‘s“ zur „Mourne Rouge Bay“

Neben einem Rundgang durch die kleine und quirlige Inselhauptstadt „St.George‘s“ , bietet sich eine bei 30 Grad durchaus beschwerlichen „Wanderung“ auf den Hausberg der Stadt an von dem aus eine Festung die Einwohner bewacht.
Als Ausgleich bietet die Insel aber auch einige sehr schöne Strände die vom Schiff aus mit dem Wassertaxi leicht zu erreichen sind. Neben der bekannten „Grand Anse“ Bucht findet sich etwas weiter an der Küste entlang auch die „Mourne Rouge Bay“ die wir uns für einen ruhigen Strandtag ausgesucht hatten…
