Especial Memorial Day - Fort Granger/Franklin-TN - Parte 1

Battle For Decatur
Each year during the Labor Day weekend, Point Mallard re-enacts the Battle For Decatur.
The Battle for Decatur was fought from October 26 to October 29, 1864, as part of the Franklin-Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. Commanding the Union forces was Brigadier General Robert S. Granger, who had between 2,000 and 5,000 men. Commanding the Confederate forces was Lieutenant General John B. Hood, who had the 23,000-man Army of Tennessee under his command. The battle took place at Decatur, Alabama, around the Old State Bank. Slugs can still be found in the masonry of the Greek Revival building.
On October 26, 1864, Gen. Hood and his army attempted to cross the Tennessee River near Decatur. However, under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Granger the Union forces were able to prevent Hood's army from crossing the river.
Union Forces burned down the city of Decatur, including the railroad bridge, leaving only three structures standing. They are the Old State Bank, Dancy-Polk House, and the McEntire House.
We invite you to come out and see this amazing reenactment and visit with the reenactors.

SUMMARY
=======
The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, in Franklin, Tennessee, as part of the Franklin–Nashville Campaign of the American Civil War. It was one of the worst disasters of the war for the Confederate States Army. Confederate Lt. Gen. John Bell Hood's Army of Tennessee conducted numerous frontal assaults against fortified positions occupied by the Union forces under Maj. Gen. John M. Schofield and was unable to break through or to prevent Schofield from executing a planned, orderly withdrawal to Nashville.
The Confederate assault of six infantry divisions containing eighteen brigades with 100 regiments numbering almost 20,000 men, sometimes called the Pickett's Charge of the West, resulted in devastating losses to the men and the leadership of the Army of Tennessee—fourteen Confederate generals (six killed, seven wounded, and one captured) and 55 regimental commanders were casualties. After its defeat against Maj. Gen. George H. Thomas in the subsequent Battle of Nashville, the Army of Tennessee retreated with barely half the men with which it had begun the short offensive, and was effectively destroyed as a fighting force for the remainder of the war.
The 1864 Battle of Franklin was the second military action in the vicinity; a battle in 1863 was a minor action associated with a reconnaissance in force by Confederate cavalry leader Maj. Gen. Earl Van Dorn on April 10.

SUMMARY
=======
The Battle of Mobile Bay of August 5, 1864 was an engagement of the American Civil War in which a Union fleet commanded by Rear Admiral David G. Farragut, assisted by a contingent of soldiers, attacked a smaller Confederate fleet led by Admiral Franklin Buchanan and three forts that guarded the entrance to Mobile Bay. A paraphrase of his order, Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead! became famous. Farragut's actual order was Damn the torpedoes! Four bells. Captain Drayton, go ahead! Jouett, full speed!.
The battle was marked by Farragut's seemingly rash but successful run through a minefield that had just claimed one of his ironclad monitors, enabling his fleet to get beyond the range of the shore-based guns. This was followed by a reduction of the Confederate fleet to a single vessel, ironclad CSS Tennessee.
Tennessee did not then retire, but engaged the entire Northern fleet. Tennessee's armor enabled her to inflict more injury than she received, but she could not overcome the imbalance in numbers. She was eventually reduced to a motionless hulk and surrendered, ending the battle. With no Navy to support them, the three forts also surrendered within days. Complete control of lower Mobile Bay thus passed to the Union forces.
Mobile had been the last important port on the Gulf of Mexico east of the Mississippi River remaining in Confederate possession, so its closure was the final step in completing the blockade in that region.
This Union victory, together with the capture of Atlanta, was extensively covered by Union newspapers and was a significant boost for Abraham Lincoln's bid for re-election three months after the battle.

Facial Trauma in New Brunswick NJ: Brian | Oral Surgery Group -
There are thousands of facial trauma cases are treated each year by oral and maxillofacial surgeons across the country. The area of the face that is injured and the severity of that injury will determine which procedure must be performed in order to properly treat the trauma. In some cases, multiple treatments are necessary in order to fully restore the face and mouth to its original function and appearance.
After finishing his undergraduate studies in biology at Binghamton University, Dr. Stern went on to the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD). Immediately after dental school, he went on to a four-year oral surgery residency program. Dr. Stern completed his residency at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital. During his residency, he gained experience in extractions, bone grafting, implants, trauma, pathology, and reconstruction. As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Stern is the highest qualified dental professional to treat the full range of oral and facial afflictions.
