FORT HERMANN UND FORT KLUZE - Festungen im Soca Tal
Fort Hermann und Fort Kluže
sind mächtige Festungen oberhalb der Koritnica-Schlucht im Soča-Tal. Die Festung Kluže liegt 4 km von Bovec entfernt in Richtung des Predel-Passes.
Die Geschichte der Festung Kluže
Im 15. Jahrhundert war die Festung Kluže eine hölzerne Festung, die den türkischen Angriff auf Kärnten verhindern sollte. Später wurde eine Steinfestung gebaut, die im 18. Jahrhundert von der österreichischen Besatzung vor der Armee von General Napoleon Bonaparte verteidigt wurde. Die Festung erhielt ihr heutiges Aussehen im 19. Jahrhundert, und im 20. Jahrhundert spielte sie eine wichtige Rolle an der Isonzofront.

Die Kärntner Festung an den Hängen von Rombon wurde zur Unterstützung der Festung Kluže während der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie zwischen 1897 und 1900 erbaut. Während des Ersten Weltkriegs wurde das gewaltsame Bombardement Italiens schwer beschädigt.

Fort Predel. It is known as one of the six forts in Koroška. On the site of an old fort built in 1850, so new that it was composed of the main building on a hill and a small prison building the road. Buildings were interconnected by an underground passage and walls. Just along the road is a memorial formed by a stone retaining wall, pyramid, with carved inscription cast iron and plastics wounded lion. In honor of the fallen past it was erected by the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I. and was officially discovered in 1851. Before the fort in 1898 and converted into a military depot as no longer meet changing military regulations and has become obsolete. The Depot before it was renamed in 1907. After the First World War, the building was no longer maintained, so far seen only the walls.

Fort Hermann on the way to the top Rombon. The fort was named to the Upper Fortress or Rombon, but was later renamed the fort in memory of Hermann Fortress Commander Bay, which fell in 1809 to fight the French.
The fortress was 10 meters high duplexes, partial basement fort with barracks.
The building was a 30 x 40 meter L-shaped and is ranked among smaller Austro-Hungarian fortress. It was 2 officers, 88 soldiers and 32 gunners, three pioneers, 3 telegrapher and the doctor.
Due to difficult access site was to be the first to build a long road to the 1292 100-meter long tunnel, which is 114 meters high won the fort.
Along the road were various small objects such as line of machine guns in the tunnel, 100 meters above the lower fort bunker spotlight M 98, caves, guardhouse ...
The road was built from 4/9/1897 through to 25 November of the same year.
Fort started to construct 02 August 1897, the foundation stone was laid on 11 06th 1898 and summer 1899 are already built gun shields for the 12 cm guns.
Most of the fort was built of reinforced concrete.
Kluže Canyon (Koritnica river)
Kluže canyon in Slovenia got its first descent in the winter of 2016. Throughout the year it is not runnable due to water level being too high and pushing into numerous hazards, especially siphons, undercuts and strainers. With very rare flows below 2,5 cumecs it is good to go, but with a lot of precaution at every step. Good whitewater swimming skills and techniques are a must!

As the cannon at the fort at Lake Rabeljske were not intended to fight a greater distance, the War Department in 1896 ruled that the fort complete with a small artillery fort in the pass compartment. For the construction was intended only 150,000 crowns.
