Fort Aubin-Neufchateau May 1940 to May 2015 Commemoration Ceremony

May 8th 2015 at Fort Aubin-Neufchateau -- Remembering the 11 day battle 75 years before and the end of WW2 70 years before. -- An apt location-- Where the might of the German Army was held for 11 horrific days all those years ago

The King of Belgium's representative along with the deputy ambassador of the USA, with German diplomats, the President of the Royal British Legion Brussels, the mayor of Dalhem with local and state government officers, paid homage to those who fell.

A ceremony that remembered the fallen on all sides. Guest of honour a vetran from the battle and the new generation, local school children.

Fort Aubin-Neufchateau - just 10 kms from Eben-Emael -- Fort Aubin-Neufchateau held firm for 11 days against mass assaults and was the site of one of the most concentrated artillery battles of the western front in WW2

After 11 days with the fortess finally breached and out of ammunition, the fort surrendered with honour; The German victors provided an honour guard and the officers kept their swords.

Today a voluntary assocation maintains the fortess and it is open to the public on the third Sunday of the month from early spring to late Autumn -- And other times by arrangement. Tours in English, French, Dutch, and German

Fort d'Aubin-Neufchateau C2 B2 - Closed areas

Casement C2 was breached on day 10 of the battle -- The defenders sealed the access and destroyed the tunnel with explosives -- The access is blocked and the remains of attacking troops are still there;

With the loss of C2 the fort massif was very vulnerable and attacking forces placed shaped charges on the cupola B2 to try to gain access. -- Having thicker armour than Eben-Emael - the cupola held -- but fearing another entry -- B2 was sealed off and explosives placed at the base of the stairwell and half way up the stairs

The fortress is open to the public every third Sunday of the month from April till November and other times by arrangement. Areas shown in this clip are not included in the standard tour.

The fortress is between Liege and Maastricht and only a few kms from the excellent motorway network. There is plenty of parking and it is possible to eat and stay nearby.

Descending into the underground network at Fort d'Aubin-Neufchateau

The Fortress of Aubin-Neufchateau held out for 12 days against constant german attacks -- defeating 23 mass assaults and firing 17 thousand shells at the attackers; The fortress was hit by up to 200 shells and bombs hourly.--- How did the heroic garrison survive? How did the fortress function under the pressure?

The answer is buried 30 metres underground -- where a network of tunnels leads you to the machine rooms, munition stores and an underground town -- everything required to support the war machinery and keep the men as safe as possible.

This clip shows the descent down the main stairs from B3 to the gallery level-- then a walk through to the entrance to the underground barracks and medical facilities.

Fort d'Aubin-Neufchateau Underground Hospital - Rochling Shell (Bunker Buster) Damage

Witness the incredible damage 30 metres below the surface within the underground hospital and barracks of the fortress of Aubin-Neufchateau

The fortress of Aubin-Neufchateau - heroically fought off assault after assault for 12 days -- was then used as a test site by the German forces for the bunker buster secret weapon -- The Rochling Shell.

The areas seen in this clip are closed to the public -- but can be accessed wth special permission and only if accompanied by a guide.

Fort d'Aubin-Neufchateau - Block P - Workday 16 July 2016

Fort d'Aubin-Neufchateau fought a viscious and heroic defence for 11 days in May 1940. Tying up thousands of invading forces and inflicting high casualties

Today the enemy is green -- Weeds and grass have to be pushed back and the access to Block P improved

6 volunteers worked hard on the 16th July to place geotextile and stones on the path in time for the monthly open day on the 17th

Volunteers maintain these sites to ensure that we can visit and learn from the past

The fort is open 3rd Sunday of the month from April till November for guided tours in several languages

Relais Sacré au Fort d'Aubin Neufchâteau, dans la commune de Dahlem. Une centaine de personne s'est déplacée pour perpétuer la tradition et rendre hommages aux soldats tombés pour notre liberté.

Fs Texas — Happy ending

[BREAKING NEWS] Après de nombreuses années sous le nom de Fs Texas, j’ai décidé de mettre un terme à l’animation des bals de villages et autres soirées estudiantines, et ce, afin de me concentrer plus en profondeur sur d’autres projets, comme Pix Me Box par exemple. Cette décision n’a pas été facile à prendre, tant cette expérience m’aura procuré beaucoup d’émotions, d’amour, de fun, de peurs, de détermination, de rigolades, d’amitiés, de gratitude, de remises en question permanentes, de rencontres qui me paraissaient improbables, d’envie de me surpasser, d’envies d’apporter de nouvelles choses dans la région (live piano, live violon, goodies,…), et j’en passe !

Pour éviter les ambigüités, il est important de préciser que cette décision ne marque pas la fin de Fs Texas.
Je serai toujours dispo pour des soirées publiques ponctuelles, hors cadre villageois, ou des animations privées qui m’apportent pas mal de satisfaction : par exemple les mariages qui sont toujours de beaux challenges.
