Trial date set for former Hopkins basketball star Di Loreto
A trial date has been set for a former Hopkins basketball star charged in an alleged robbery of a Wisconsin bank last summer.
Anthony Di Loreto, 19, of Minnetonka was charged with being party to an armed robbery and possession of a shotgun after allegedly acting as a would-be getaway driver during a bank robbery with a then 16-year-old male Aug. 16, 2008, in Danbury, Wis.
A Burnett County District Court judge set a Sept. 2 trial date for Di Loreto at a hearing Friday, Feb. 6.
Burnett County Sheriff Dean Roland said Di Loreto and the 16-year-old had spent the previous night partying and Di Loreto agreed to drive the boy to a relative's house near Danbury the next day. Somewhere along the line, it was thought to commit the bank robbery, he said. They also talked about it the night before.
Di Loreto starred for the Hopkins boys basketball team last year as a seven-foot senior. He accepted a full scholarship to play basketball at California Polytechnic State University this past fall. However, he hasn't enrolled there, following his arrest.
