Video Game Arcade Tours - Forum Amusements (Felixstowe, UK)
Sonic air hockey surrounded by an endless drab of redemption, 2ps and gamblers. The carpet is office blue with little to no atmosphere. This is more like a casino rather than an amusement arcade.

Many of the arcades in the UK (Mainly seaside arcades) are called Amusement Arcades. They are typically packed with redemption-based machines with very few video games (As video games simply do not make money). I have placed the word Amusements in the title for these types of places as they are not true Video Game Arcades, but deserve some sort of mention. As gambling is legal in the UK, they tend to include fruit machines (aka slot machines) and various other things money-making games, so video games really take a back seat in places like these. They also really hate filming, I'm not sure why because it's free advertising, unless dodgy things are taking place lol
An amusement arcade (often referred to as video arcade or simply arcade) is a venue where people play arcade games such as video games, pinball machines, electro-mechanical games, redemption games, merchandisers (such as claw cranes), or coin-operated billiards or air hockey tables. In some countries, some types of arcades are also legally permitted to provide gambling machines such as slot machines or pachinko machines. Games are usually housed in cabinets. The term used for ancestors of these venues in the beginning of the 20th century was penny arcades.Video games were introduced in amusement arcades in the late 1970s and were most popular during the golden age of arcade video games, the early 1980s. Arcades became popular with children and particularly adolescents, which led parents to be concerned that video game playing might cause them to skip school.

Video Game Arcade Tours - Manning's Amusement Park (Felixstowe, UK)
I was pleasantly surprised by this arcade to be honest. They have invested in newer games (Luigi's Mansion for example), while using large amounts of floor space on Bowlingo (mini bowling) and Cody's Cabin (Mechanical shooter).
Their music games consist of Percussion Master and Dancing Stage Euromix 1. Haven't seen a Percussion Master since Trocadero closed their upstairs area in London a few years back. Dancing Stage Euromix 1 is better than no dance game by a long shot, but it would be nice to see something with more than 16 songs, like Dance Dance Revolution Extreme which has 240 songs, or even Euromix 2 at a pinch!
That being said, lots of video games and they haven't sold out on redemption. Felixstowe has good arcades and knows the value of a video game!

Video Game Arcade Tours - Pier Amusements (Felixstowe, UK)
The Biggest arcade in Felixstowe! (Probably in Suffolk for that matter!). It's a large open-plan room with a good amount of video games. THey have put money into buying new machines too. There is indoor bowling and also a fair amount of redemption, but at least there are some video games!

Video Game Arcade Tours - Gray's Amusements (Sheringham, UK)
It's not so bad for the square footage! It's a small arcade, but still, they could have easily focused on 100% redemption, 2p and gamblers.... Instead, they have a few video games: Wacky Races, Dead Heat, Terminator Salvation, Big Buck Hunter etc, not bad for it's size!

Not because they rejected my 7 year old expired coupons, no, but because they removed Pump It Up and the Dance DDX cabinets! (oh and they never do pad maintenence)... it's a real shame! But some memories have to be memories to be memories... memories memories memories

Namco Limited (株式会社ナムコ, Kabushiki Gaisha Namuko) is a Japanese corporation best known as a video game developer and publisher. Following a merger with Bandai in September 2005, the two companies' game production assets were spun off into Bandai Namco Games on March 31, 2006, now known as Bandai Namco Entertainment. Namco was re-established to continue domestic operation of video arcades and amusement parks. Its headquarters are located in Ōta, Tokyo. The company's English name is often officially written as NAMCO (in all capital letters).
Namco was a front-runner during the golden age of arcade video games. Pac-Man went on to become the best-selling arcade game in history and an international popular culture icon. Namco was also known for creating successful franchises such as Galaxian, Ridge Racer, Ace Combat, Tekken, as well as the Soul and Tales series.

Video Game Arcade Tours - Merrivale Old Penny Arcade (Great Yarmouth, UK)
Very unique arcade right here!! Everything is mechanical, so it's similar to Musée Mécanique in San Francisco, Pinball Hall of Fame in Las Vegas (Some machines) and Novelty Automation in London. The added bonus here is that ALL machines require old English pennies to operate! You can change your new currency or old pennies in the arcade! You can also bring your own old pennies! There is also a tea room and gift shop. Check it out!

OLD PENNY ARCADE
Step back in time and visit our unique Old Penny Arcade, which has been beautifully redecorated and refurbished in 2007. We have a wide range of fantastic vintage slot machines dating from the twenties to the sixties in our Old Penny Museum including old favourites such as the infamous 'Laughing Sailor,' 'What the Butler Saw' (mutoscope) and 'All Wins' machines. Put your penny in the slot and crank the handle, ping the lever, shoot a ball and beat your component! The old time mechanics provide hours of amusement and fun trying to work out how the machine operates whilst admiring their ingenious designs. Bags of old pennies are available from the Merrivale gift shop.

Video Game Arcade Tours - Dunes Amusement Arcade (Cromer, UK)
Super Bikes 2, Deat Heat, Multi-Player pacman, crane games, 2p machines and redemption. This is a bit of a mystery arcade, there isn't really anything online with regards to it, not even an address! For it's size, it's well balance in terms of video games to redemption ratio. Not bad!

Video Game Arcade Tours - The Mirage Amusements (Mablethorpe, UK)
This is HANDS DOWN the best arcade in Mablethorpe! Not only is the arcade HUGE, but they didn't totally sell out on redemption-based games. You can actually play video games here! Crazy thought, but it's increasingly rare for seaside arcades these days to have any kind of video games. This arcade has TWO Dance Dance Revolution machines: X2 and Euromix 2, right at the entrance way and also a HUGE 4 player half-car Ferrari / Out Run arcade game (Sorry my knowledge lacks at driving games!), newer titles like Walking Dead; amongst other machines. It's pretty common to see large arcades in the US: like D&B, Round 1, Gameworks etc, but it's a rarity in the UK! Keep it going guys, great job!

Video Game Arcade Tours - Magic City Amusements (Great Yarmouth, UK)
It's a pretty big redemption fest to be honest. Gamblers, 2p machines and ticket-based redemption. The only new machines they have are redemption-based. No video games at all. They have air hockey and bowling at the back.

Video Game Arcade Tours - Leisureland Arcade (Great Yarmouth, UK)
Jurassic Park, Walking Dead, GRID, MotoGP, Aliens... some newer video games right here! They haven't focused purely on redemption, which is always nice to see!! There are a lot of gamblers, crane games and redemption-based machines, but at least it's not a total wash out. Adding a Dance Dance Revolution would give it 5 stars from me! Gotta burn off those seaside fish and chips!
