Fossil Creek Arizona waterfalls
Fossil Creek in Arizona. Being from California, I sure do miss the green and the many water ways. Alas, I found Fossil Creek an amazing substitute with incredible waterfalls and red wood like forest scenery!
Pine to Strawberry, Mogollon Rim (Hiking AZ)
Hike from the Pine TH, at the base of the Mogollon Rim, in Gila County, west on the Arizona Trail to Oak Spring Canyon, then north on Walnut Trail #251 and Pine-Strawberry Trail #15 to the hamlet of Strawberry. If you instead head south in Oak Spring Canyon, eventually you end up at Tonto Natural Bridge ... I'll have to try that some day! The hike passes by The Narrows, Bradshaw Tank, Strawberry Mountain, Cottonwood Spring and up Strawberry Hollow. The Trail #15 portion is on the same route, opposite direction, as the Fire on the Rim mountain bike race held the second weekend every September.

Pine Creek Trail #289, Big Bug Mesa, Hiking Arizona
Hiking Pine Creek Trail #289, from Pine Flat, AZ, up to Big Bug Mesa, in the Prescott National Forest. The highlight of the hike is great views across Turkey Creek and Five Corners towards Moscow Peak, Mount Union and Mount Davis. (At 7,979 ft. / 2418 m, Mount Union is the highest point in Yavapai County.) Note that topo maps show Trail #289 going straight up Pine Creek to the ruins; that is incorrect: There is no trail at all in that rocky, deadfall-strewn canyon. In fact, around Seaton Spring, Trail #289 turns west up to the Big Bug Mesa's rim near a small stone wall.

Hiking Arizona: Cherry Creek Bail (Bradshaw Mountains)
Hiking Arizona's Cherry Creek Trail #214 in the McAllister Range of the Bradshaw Mountains, about 10 miles southeast of Wagoner in Yavapai County. It was hotter than predicted. I ended up bailing: It's real easy to become a heat casualty in the desert. (Just ask those French people who died in White Sands a few days ago ...) Better safe than sorry!

Hike from Washington Park trailhead on FR 32, north of Houston Mesa, in Gila County to the historic Railroad Tunnel. Then up to the Mogollon Rim, and the General Springs cabin, before following the pipeline along Col. Devin Trail #290 back to the trailhead. Good flow in the upper East Verde River. Lots of butterflies.

Balentine Trail near Phoenix, Arizona - 20 February 2010
Trip date: February 20, 2010
Picture opportunity rating: 3
Unfortunately I was at this trail when it was raining, so I did not have full view of the area. It seems to be very nice are with a lot of small hills all around. Pass that it was nothing special.
Hiking Difficulty: Easy
This trail (loop) is really easy. It does have inclines but nothing strenuous. It is comprised of multiple small hills that seem to be everywhere.
Paved road: Yes
Pass required for parking: No
Dog accessible: Yes
Hiking Box Canyon, Mogollon Rim, Arizona
Hiking Box Canyon -- which is a box canyon -- from FR 95 to General Springs Canyon. Box Canyon is on the Mogollon Rim, in Arizona's Coconino National Forest. Box Canyon is mellow walking the first quarter, a scramble with several pours in the middle half, then a grassy creekside cienega just above General Springs Canyon. There may have been more mylar balloons than flowers!

Wolf Creek Falls - Prescott Arizona
Wolf Creek Falls - Prescott Arizona
Prescott National Forest. Wolf Creek Falls is a 0.9 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Prescott, Arizona that features a waterfall. ... A bit tricky to find the Falls since Wolf Creek is dry much of the time, but very well worth the effort.

Bald Mountain / Smith Ravine Trail #297, Prescott National Forest, Arizona Hike
Hiking Smith Ravine Trail #297 from Walker Rd. to Spruce Mountain Rd., then following a transmission line up a cat claw-infested gulley to the west slope of Bald Mountain, near Walker, AZ, in the Prescott National Forest. Descended a steep, but less painful, spur down to Trail #297, then back to the trailhead. Nice fall colors, with some very rich gold.

A Day in Fossil Creek/Springs
Watch in 1080/720p! I really messed up with the cropping because of the 960p clips I used in the beginning and some glitches with rendering, but oh well! Enjoy.

Meet the Industry: Fossil Creek Creamery
As part of Local First Arizona Foundation's video series highlighting a variety of agribusinesses across the state, we met with John and Joyce Bittner, owners of Fossil Creek Creamery in Strawberry, AZ.
Highlights:
- Goats might not be that smart, but they sure can multiply!
- Life on the goat farm is a busy one. John, Joyce and their team are busy from sunup to sundown, every single day.
- Strawberry is one of the cleanest places in the world to breathe clean air, making it a great staycation destination.
CLIFF JUMPING: FOSSIL CREEK
Our trip to Fossil Creek near Strawberry, Arizona. We are huge advocates for being a tourist in your own state, so watch our video and relive some of the finest moments from our weekend of camping, climbing, hiking, and cliff jumping.
We first drove down from Flagstaff, AZ making a few stops along the way in small towns like Strawberry and Pine, before reaching Payson. We then picked up some pizzas with friends and headed out to our campsite for the evening where we did a night hike/climb and then slept in a hammock (it was cold...)
The next morning, we met up with our family at the campsite and drove over to the trailhead for Fossil Creek where we hiked 4.5 miles downhill to the stunning waterfall. The water looks dark from above but is crystal clear when swimming through it, making for some spectacular GoPro footage.
We'd highly recommend this hike to anyone in or out of Arizona looking for beautiful scenery and a great place to experience the rush of cliff jumping from a waterfall.
The park rangers recommended carrying about 1 to 1.5 gallons of water per person, but you can likely make do with a little less. Just make sure you save more of it for the hike back out, as we made frequent stops to keep ourselves hydrated. Have any questions about our trip? Leave them in the comments!

Ranch Trail #62, Prescott National Forest, Arizona Hike
Hike on Ranch Trail #62 from Walker Road, to Upper Goldwater Lake on the Senator Highway, just south of Prescott, AZ. First part of hike was a short climb through a shrubby, old, burn area; the second through shaded pine forest with a surprising variety of flowers for so late in the season (especially at 6000+ feet altitude).
Btw, if you are wondering what that small, peach-like, berry is, it is an Oak Apple Gall Wasp ( ).
