Fotografiska, Slussen and Södermalm in Stockholm - Sweden 4K Travel Channel
Södermalm is a central district of Stockholm and at the same time an island. Once a working-class area, it is a popular district for intellectuals and artists today. Here the Abba member Benny Andersson has converted a cinema to the Hotel Rival.
Before we stroll through Södermalm, we first visit Fotografiska and the observation plattform Katarinahissen.
We take the subway to Slussen and walk from here to the Fotografiska. Although Fotografiska is referred to as photo-museum, it does not only exhibit individual pictures. It is a center for contemporary photography and introduces photographers and their works in changing exhibitions. The museum is housed in an Art Nouveau hall of a former tollhouse, right on the water's edge. The American photographer Annie Leibovitz opened the museum in 2010.
During our visit, we were able to see a unique exhibition about a Greta Garbo on the ground floor. The vernissage The image of Garbo shows photos and other memorabilia about the unforgotten Swedish actress. The presumably the largest private Garbo collection in the world is owned by the entrepreneur Lars Nordin.
Another exhibition devoted itself to the work of Bryan Adams who has not only made a name as a rock musician. He was also awarded several times as a photographer. Bryan Adams is also known for his social engagement.
The Hurricane Season by Hannah Modigh particularly impresses us. The exhibition captures the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
After visiting the exhibitions, you can relax in the Fotografiska Café upstairs and enjoy the views of Stockholm Bay.
Before we stroll through Södermalm, we again cross the traffic hub Slussen.
Actually, Slussen is the name for the locks between the Baltic Sea and the Lake Mälaren. But the roads, subways and bus lines, made this square the most frequented traffic hub in Stockholm. It has grown steadily over the last few years but has not kept pace with the requirements of modern times.
Since 2013 the traffic hub has been completely rebuilt. Completion is expected from 2022 onward. It is currently the largest construction site in Stockholm.

Fotografiska - Stockholm * Walk Around
Fotografiska (The Swedish Museum of Photography) is a centre for contemporary photography in the Södermalm district of Stockholm, Sweden that opened on 21 May 2010.
Despite its name, it is not a museum because it has no collections, does not conduct research and is for-profit.[1] It is not a member of either Swedish ICOM or Riksförbundet Sveriges museer.
Fotografiska has 5500 m2 of exhibition spaces, citation needed] an academy, bistro, café, bar, conference rooms, museum shop, gallery, and event spaces.
Fotografiska is housed at Stadsgården, in a former customs house in the Art Nouveau style[citation needed] dating from 1906. Designed by Ferdinand Boberg, the building is listed as of cultural interest. The original brick facade is intact, while the interiors have been renovated to house the centre. The city of Stockholm has funded the 250 million SEK restoration costs
Restaurant Fotografiska: guilt-free dining at the worlds best museum restaurant in Stockholm!
We are always fascinated and inspired by those who push the boundaries - especially if it's saving our planet and taste absolutely delicious at the same time. We got the opportunity to spend a day with Elivra, who is the head chef at Fotografiska in Stockholm. Their food philosophy is ’Sustainable pleasure’; throwing food away is completely against their philosophy and the team is constantly finding new ways to recycle/reuse and up-cycle/inventing new raw products to use in the dishes. Fotografiska has been awarded the “Museum Restaurant of the World” award and top rating by 360 Eat Guide. This is for sure one of our favourite cultural attractions and conscious free dining experiences in Stockholm!

Latent History at Fotografiska, Stockholm
This is a film taken by Refik Anadol of his own video installation Latent History and published with his permission.
Latent History was exhibited at Fotografiska in Stockholm in the summer of 2019. The installation creates an alternative Stockholm as hallucinated by a machine. The work reuses about 23 000 photographs of Stockholm, the majority drawn from Riksantikvarieämbetets museum collections aggregator Swedish Open Cultural Heritage.

????????STOCKHOLM Sweden | TOP 10 sights | Travel Vlog
If Sweden is our captor, then we definitely got a case of Stockholm Syndrome!
The capital of Sweden and the largest city in the country, Stockholm is regarded as one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. There are a number of attractions and sights to visit, this city appeals to the imagination of many tourists from around the world and here is our personal recommendations.
1. Old town Gamla Stan.
Located in Stockholm's oldest and coziest district. Place where history comes alive! Gamla stan is one of Europe's largest and best preserved medieval city centers, and therefore one of Stockholm's greatest attractions.
2. Swedish food.
There is some traditional food in Sweden you should definitely try, because it's really delicious. Here are a few much common dishes you might get served in a restaurant if you ask for something typically Swedish.
3. The Royal Palace.
This combination of royal residence, workplace and culture-historical monument open year round to visitors makes the Royal Palace of Stockholm unique amongst Europe's royal residences.Uncover the rich past of the Swedish royal family and learn about the day to day lives of the modern monarchy.
4. Vasa museum.
The Vasa Museum (Vasa Museet) is a maritime museum displaying the only almost fully intact 17th century ship that has ever been salvaged, the 64-gun warship Vasa that sank on her maiden voyage in 1628. Opened in 1990, the Vasa Museum is one of the most visited museums in Scandinavia.
5. Nordic museum.
Nordic Museum is the Sweden's biggest historical center of social history. Arranged on the Djurgarden Island in the focal point of Stockholm, the superb exhibition hall building is one of Stockholm's actual historic points and certainly justified regardless of a visit in itself. An assortment of displays on mold and materials, furniture and insides, china and table settings, people workmanship, adornments, photography, patterns, and customs.
6. Millesgarden.
Millesgarden is called by many an oasis, and it is very true. It is an ensemble of terraces, gardens, stairs, fountains all decorated by beautiful sculptures. Many of those sculptures are put on high pillars and seem to be frozen in mid-air. It creates a unique feeling of lightness and helps to understand the deep poetry of those pieces of art.
7. Fotografiska (Photography Museum).
The Swedish museum of photography, or Fotografiska, is one of the largest contemporary museums of photography in the world. Explore the four large exhibitions and almost 20 smaller ones per year.
8. Subway in Stockholm.
It's actually the world's longest art gallery and features over 150 works of art and installations. All it costs to check out? The price of a ticket for the train.

Fotografiska – STHLM Forever

✍ Opening a museum in New York, a city that already boasts nearly 150 of them, is a move so bold that it rarely happens. “It’s kind of a stupid thing to do, isn’t it?” asks Jan Broman, who is nevertheless doing just that, with his brother, Per, this October, with the opening of Fotografiska New York, a photography museum on Park Avenue South, in Manhattan. (It’s the same space that the fraudster wannabe socialite Anna Sorokin, aka Anna Delvey, claimed she was developing as a cultural center.) Since the siblings founded the original Fotografiska, in their native Stockholm, in 2010, the museum has drawn over 4 million visitors; this past June, they opened an outpost in Estonia, and after New York they plan to launch in London and Shanghai. The brothers have been steeped in the world of photographs for as long as they can remember: Their father, a professional printer, gave them cameras as kids and built a darkroom in the family basement where they could experiment. Although they pursued se ...
