The Book of Everything
Following its sell-out, award-winning and critically acclaimed 2015 Auckland Arts Festival season, the show that beguiled and inspired audiences of every kind is back! The Book of Everything returns to the mainstage at Q Theatre from Feb 12 – 25 before taking the Silo experience to a wider audience, touring to New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Napier and Hamilton in March 2016.
Nine year old Thomas sees things that others don’t - a plague of green frogs, a hailstorm in summer, tropical fish in the canals of Amsterdam, where he lives. He’s keeping a diary, The Book of Everything, in which he records all that he sees. And one day, he writes his greatest wish: ‘When I grow up, I’m going to be happy.’ It’s 1951, and to escape an unhappy household and a violent father, Thomas creates a magical world where anything is possible.
Magical and beautifully moving, The Book of Everything is an enchanting stage adaptation of the children’s story by Guus Kuijer. Under the stunning direction of Silo Artistic Director Sophie Roberts - The Book of Everything received two Auckland Theatre Awards in 2015 for ‘Excellence in all aspects of the production’ and ‘Best Ensemble’. A stellar cast including Rima Te Wiata, Jennifer Ward-Lealand, Stephen Lovatt, Michelle Blundell, and newcomer Patrick Carroll will take the stage in 2016 to create a vital conversation around family violence, courage and friendship.
The Book of Everything plays:
Auckland, Q Theatre 12th - 25th February 2016
New Plymouth, TSB Showplace 4th & 5th March 2016
Palmerston North, Regent on Broadway 8th & 9th March 2016
Napier, Municipal Theatre 12th & 13th March 2016
Hamilton, Founders Theatre 18th & 19th March 2016

1974 Hamilton Grand Prix, New Zealand
On April 6, 1974, Hamilton MCC organised their second 'motorcycle grand prix' at what was named the 'Founders Street Circuit', marked out on closed public roads in the centre of Hamilton city, New Zealand!
The track layout mainly followed the perimeter streets of the city's most Central Park, including Bryce Street, Mill Street, Seddon Road, Frankton Roundabout, past Founders Theatre, London Street and Rostrevor Street. The start/finish was in Tristram Street.
Alan Collison won the production race on a Kawasaki triple.
The popular charity event (only by being a charity event would the Council and affected residents agree to the road closures and noise) was marred by tragedy when an accident in a support class at Frankton Roundabout resulted in fatal injuries for a young spectator watching in a prohibited area.
In hindsight, the club was probably stretched to have enough qualified marshals to control such a large public event, with the police only seen in substantial numbers after the fatal accident.
The main 'grand prix' and sidecar race still went ahead after the fatality, but the event was not held at Founders Street again, although the HMCC ran another event using part of the scenic drive around Hamilton Lake and residential areas, again pretty much in the central city area.
