Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire, UK --- May 2013
We visited the beautiful Fountains Abbey & the Studley Royal in Ripon, North Yorkshire, UK in Mid May 2013 and were greatly impressed by the solemn ruin of the Abbey. It had reminded both of my wife and myself the history of religion in Britain.
We visited there on a holiday, there were many families walking and resting on the lawn, and small children were playing cheerfully. It was very pleasant scenery for us.

This set of vacation pictures begin with St. Mary's chapel, a beautiful little church on the Abbey grounds. We then move to Fountains Hall where during the 1930's, benefactors called the Settlers Society ran a trade school for deprived teens from Northeastern England. We then move onto the ruins of the Cistercian abbey which was plundered by Henry the VIII's cronies.

Ripon: Boxing Day Pilgrimage to Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire
Expelled monks from St Mary's Abbey in York made their was to Ripon Cathedral and spent Christmas there in 1132. From there they founded the Cistercian Fountains Abbey three miles away in a secluded valley. In 1990 it was decided to re-enact that walk from Ripon Cathedral to Fountains Abbey and it has now become an annual event, ending with a service in the vaulted cloister. The Rev John Packer narrates.
