Goodwood Revival 2016 - Part 2 - Classic Cars Show
This video features the Brian Tanti Workshop visit to the Goodwood Revival in 2016 - Goodwood Revival - Classic Cars Show
Brian Tanti is an internationally respected restorer and coach builder who is widely regarded as a leading voice in the car industry. As a experienced restorer, Brian is a co-presenter of Discovery Channel TV series Car Chronicles.
Brian has lived and breathed the motor vehicle industry his entire life. His career began more than 37 years ago as a panel beater working in the UK and Australia. He spent time in a Rolls-Royce dealership before landing a job in Lindsay Fox’s museum, where he rose to the position of Director. He has spent 27 years working for the Fox family as a workshop manager; building and restoring classic cars from Lindsay Fox’s $45 million car collection. At the Fox Museum, Brian also became the Manager of Vehicle Operations.
As a Coach Builder, Brian quickly accumulated a reputation for excellence; several of his restorations have won concourse competitions; nationally and internationally.
Brian has been described by Lord Elgin, World President of the 20-Ghost Club, the oldest Rolls Royce Club in the World, as ‘without peer and certainly the best he has ever seen.’
He is also an accomplished artist; one of his aluminum sculptures has been exhibited in the Heidi Museum of Modern Art ‘Cars in Australian Art’ Exhibition. His work also features in the critically acclaimed book: ‘Rare Trades’, which became the subject of a national exhibition commissioned by the National Museum of Australia.
Brian’s projects have been featured in the National Gallery of Victoria in the 2015 ‘Shifting Gear’ Exhibition.
In 2007 Brian established the Auto Horizon Foundation (AHF) which focused on it’s first concept car project, FR-1, and FR-2 (electric vehicle), which was a concept being advanced jointly with the Auto Manufacturing and Auto Component sector.
The Foundation was an independent, not for Profit entity, which aimed to facilitate the development and sustainability of the Australian automotive manufacturing industry. It was also set up to inspire young Australians to explore their capabilities through active involvement with the automotive industry; and to direct surplus funds into a select group of charities.
Brian is also a highly-regarded public speaker and is passionate about the issue of the provision of opportunities for students who struggle with an academically focused education system.
“There seems to be this perception out there that working in this industry suffers from the three Ds as we know them in the industry – dumb, dirty and dangerous – but the reality is there are students out there using all sorts of machinery, electronics and diagnostic equipment. Having a place where the community can interact with industry is critical,” Brian said.
Projects and current/past memberships include:
The FR-1 concept car which recently featured in the National Gallery of Victoria “Shifting Gear” exhibition (March- July 2015).
Past President of the Melbourne Docklands Chamber of Commerce.
Past Chairman of the Executive Board, of the Docklands Contempora Arts Festival presented by the City of Melbourne and Vic Urban.

National Motor Museum - Birdwood: Classic Restos Series 35
Fletch returns to the National Motor Museum in Birdwood South Australia. The National Motor Museum is not only a tribute to the automotive legacy here in Australia, but it's also the finishing point of the iconic Bay to Birdwood event.
With the doors closing at the Elizabeth Holden Assembly Plant, Fletch checks out a new permanent exhibition ‘[Re]assembled: Australia’s automotive manufacturing journey’, with the aim to preserve the Holden workers’ legacy and the story of the assembly plant that has sustained thousands of South Australian families.
Another impressive display is 'The Travelling Emporium' The history of hawker vans and the mobile salesman of rural Australia. The National Motor Museum collection features two vehicles that demonstrate the story of Australia’s early motorised hawkers: a 1936 LE30 Dodge and a 1926 Graham Brothers G-Boy. The LE30 Dodge belonged to Lobethal man Syd Graeber. Syd converted the Dodge into a haberdashery shop on wheels and from 1936 to 1966 travelled the Northern Hills and Murray Basin districts selling fabrics, buttons and shoe heels. Another South Australian hawker, Hassan (Harry) Monsoor migrated from Lebanon to Australia in 1900 at age seventeen.
The final exhibit is a 1920 Garage, Fletch sees what the interior of a typical mechanical workshop looked like in the 1920s. Museum volunteers have created a replica 1920s Garage using tin signs, petrol pumps, original tools, advertising images, a fire extinguisher, and even a vintage typewriter and small office. The main feature is a rolling Ford Model T chassis, designed to show the various components of a chassis and running gear and how they fit together. Other vehicles of the period also feature, such as a 1927 Nash Light Six Tourer, a 1929 Harley-Davidson and a 1927 Triumph Model W motorcycle.
The National Motor Museum is one of Australia unique cultural icons in the world of motoring history. As an international centre for the collection, research, preservation, education and display of Australian road transport history, the National Motor Museum is much more than a collection of vehicles. It is a social history of the way we were, the way we are now and the way of the future.
