Cana (Kafr, Kanna) Wedding Church, Jesus Turns Water to Wine, John 2:1-11, Jesus Heals, John 4:46-54
See the miracles and biblical events that happened at this special place! Christ turned water into wine here, an official's son was healed close-by, and Nathaniel, one of the apostles was from Cana as well. See the Bible come to life as you see the context where it all took place.
Cana is in the northern part of Israel in the Lower Galilee area. It’s about 11 miles (17 km.) southwest of the Sea of Galilee, about 4 miles (6.4 km.) northeast of Nazareth, and about 22 miles (35 km.) inland from the Mediterranean Sea.
1. Cana’s actual location is uncertain, with at least three possible candidates.
2. However, at the Wedding Church, the Franciscans have relied on the testimony of early pilgrims including Jerome. Therefore, they established themselves here in 1641.
3. The Franciscans also believe excavations beneath their present church, dating from the early 1900s, confirm the existence of an early place of worship. They believe it’s possible it was a Jewish-Christian synagogue.
4. Beneath the present Franciscan Wedding Church were found remains of dwellings dating back to the 1st century. An ancient basilica with three arch vaults in a cross-like form were also discovered. Additionally, in a crypt, a small stone cistern was found fitted into a flagstone floor.
5. Not far from the Wedding Church is the Greek Orthodox Church of the Marriage Feast. It possesses two large stone jars believed to be two of the original water pots used when Christ turned the water into wine.
6. The town also has a chapel dedicated to Bartholomew, whom some scholars identify with Nathanael of Cana
Kafr Kanna and the Wedding Church (Cana of Galilee), Jesus' first miracle, turning water into wine
Playlist: The Miracles of Jesus; click here:
The Gospel of John records Jesus' first miracle (turning water into wine) taking place at a wedding in Cana of Galilee as one of the signs attesting to Jesus' divinity. Since at least the 700s, the village Kafr Kanna has been identified as the site of the miracle (although Lebanese Christians claim that Qana in southern Lebanon is the actual location). Today a church at Kafr Kanna marks the traditional location.

CHURCH OF THE FIRST MIRACLE IN CANA(Kfar Kana)
The Wedding Church at Cana[1][2][3] (Hebrew: כנסיית החתונה) or simply Wedding Church, also Franciscan Wedding Church, is a religious building of the Catholic Church located in the central part of the town of Kafr Kanna (Cana),[4][self-published source] in the Lower Galilee in northern Israel.[5] It is dedicated to weddings. Its name commemorates an event from the Christian Gospel of John, known as The Wedding at Cana, during which Jesus performed the miracle of turning water into wine.
The Church is owned by the Custody of the Holy Land, part of the Franciscan order in the Catholic Church.[6] The current church was built circa 1881, and expanded from 1897-1905, following efforts by the Franciscans to acquire the site between 1641 and 1879, when acquisition was completed.[6] Twentieth-century archaeological excavations indicated that, before the current church building, the site housed a Jewish synagogue in the fourth and fifth centuries, and tombs under the rule of the Byzantine Empire in the fifth and sixth centuries.[6]
In 1901 the current facade was built, and September 30, 1906, Bishop Angelo Roncalli consecrated the altar. In the second half of the 1990s, the Holy Land began an extensive renovation of the church. The complete renovation of the church was completed in 1999.
MONASTERY OF THE HOLY APOSTLES - CAPERNAUM - ISRAEL 2017
The Greek Orthodox Church at the Monastery of the Holy Apostles, Capernaum, Israel.
The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostles, in common use simply Church of the Apostles is the church at the centre of the Greek Orthodox Monastery of the Holy Apostles at Capernaum, standing among the ruins of ancient Capernaum (Kfar Nachum) near the shore of the Sea of Galilee in Israel.
It is also known as simply the Greek Orthodox church at Capernaum, to differentiate it from the Franciscan monastery standing in the southern part of Capernaum. It is sometimes named as the Church of the Seven Apostles, based on the seven disciples mentioned in John 21, but it is actually dedicated to all the twelve apostles of Jesus.
