Frankfurt Christmas Market - Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt 2016
A little tour of the sights and a few things we saw during our time at Frankfurt Christmas Market in December 2016.
The market was beautiful, full of treats and SO atmospheric (not to mention absolutely huge!!). I would highly recommend the Market Tour from the Frankfurt Tourist Office which also allows access to the church's rooftop plus you get to sample some of the food and drink around the stalls. Super!

Frankfurt, Christmas Market and New Old City - Germany 4K Travel Channel
The completion of the historical reconstructions between the Römerberg and the cathedral, as well as the Christmas Market, taking place since 1393, are good reasons to visit Frankfurt once again. We have booked the recently opened Motel One Frankfurt-Römer. As the name suggests, it is only about 200 m from the Römerberg.
From the hotel, it is only a short walk to the Römer. Since 1405, the historic building has served as city hall of Frankfurt and is the seat of Lord Mayor.
We approach the building complex from the back. As we stand in front of the St Paul's Church, we see the Ratskeller opposite. Right next to it, we reach the inner courtyards of the Römer.
The paintings on the walls show the preferences of the inhabitants of Frankfurt for their Äppelwoi, the wine made from apples.
In the midst of the court, a BMW etron (hybrid) is currently being charged at a charging station, what very much pleases us.
Unfortunately, the Emperor's Hall is closed for an event, but we will visit it the next day.
And so we stroll along the south side of the Römer and reach the Römerberg with the Christmas market.
The facades of the houses on the east side (Samstagsberg) catch our eyes. The half-timbered houses have a lot of windows, which is probably due to the fact that in former times one rented them out at coronation ceremonies.
We cross the square and see stalls offering chestnuts and mulled wine, as well as a historical children's carousel. Then we walk towards the Schirn Kunsthalle, an exhibition hall for modern and contemporary art. Here, we take a quick look at the entrance area.
But our interest is in the new Old Town of Frankfurt. The reconstruction of the medieval buildings, combined with new buildings is only recently completed. It is an attraction for many tourists. During this time of the year, they are mixed with many Christmas market visitors enjoying their mulled wine.

Best Christmas Market in Germany | Frankfurt Christmas Market 2019 | EP01
In this video I have captured the Frankfurt Christmas markets 2019 and which is the best Christmas markets in the Germany. This is the first part of my visit to the market.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, hundreds of wooden huts move to the historic old town squares surrounding Frankfurt’s Römerberg. The market stalls are set in the midst of the area’s timber-framed houses, contrasting with the glitzy high-rises of the financial district in the background. As one of Germany’s oldest Christmas markets, with records suggesting it dates back as far as 1393, the market at Römerberg is a sure-fire was to enjoy some traditional goodies and Christmas spirit. Handmade trinkets and crafts make for fantastic souvenirs and gifts, and the local culinary specials – from hot apple wine to Bethmännchen marzipan cookies – will give you the full Franconian experience.

Frankfurt, Germany: A Christmas Markt Full Tour (HQ)
Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt), Frankfurt: 27.Nov. -- 22.Dec.2013. Frankfurt's Christmas Market has been in effect since 1393!
The Christmas market, also known as Christkindlmarkt, Marché de Noël, Christkindlesmarkt, Christkindlmarket, and Weihnachtsmarkt, is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent. These markets originated in Germany, Austria, South Tyrol, North Italy, and many French regions such as Alsace, Lorraine, and Savoy, but are now being held in many other countries. The history of Christmas markets goes back to the Late Middle Ages in the German-speaking part of Europe and in many parts of the former Holy Roman Empire that includes many eastern region of France and Switzerland. Frankfurt's Christmas markt was first held in 1393!
In many towns in Germany and Austria, Advent is usually ushered in with the opening of the Christmas market or Weihnachtsmarkt. In southern Germany and Austria it is sometimes called a Christkind(e)l(s)markt (German language, literally meaning Christ child market). Generally held in the town square and adjacent pedestrian zones, the market sells food, drink, and seasonal items from open-air stalls, accompanied by traditional singing and dancing. On opening nights (and in some towns more often) onlookers welcome the Christkind (originally boy Jesus, but more often depicted as an angel-like girl), acted out by a local child.
