Welcome to Paros, Greece???????? Is it the Best Greek Island? Things to do in Paros & Antiparos
We spend a day exploring the town of Parikia in Paros, as well as the island of Antiparos, Greece to find out the best things to do! The islands can be found in southern Greece and are part of the Cyclades islands.
We started our day exploring the town of Parikia, walking around it’s beautiful white washed streets to see the class cyclades buildings. We walked around the Frankish Castle and also visited the old church called Panagia Ekatontapiliani.
Paros is known for being relatively chic so we walked around to window shop at the boutiques.
We then make our way to the waterfront area to check out the local beaches and walk along the promenade.
Here we pick up a bus that takes us to another town to take a ferry to the small neighbouring island of Antiparos (FYI- Tom Hanks has a house here- watch the video to see if we meet him!).
In Antiparos we take the drone up to get great views over the town, hit up the lagoon like beach next to the main town, and explore the beautiful streets. Antiparos is known for being even more chic than Paros and you can notice it in it’s beautiful boutiques and restaurants.

Paros in Greece is among the most popular islands of Cyclades. Located in the heart of the Aegean Sea, Paros island is ideal for young people, romantic couples and families, too. The Parian traditional villages, particularly Naoussa, Parikia and Lefkes, are perfect samples of Cycladic architecture, with whitewashed sugar houses, paved streets and blue-domed churches. The beaches are famous for the exotic water and the golden sand. The beaches on the south eastern side, such as Golden Beach and New Golden Beach, are particularly popular for windsurfing.
Parikia: This is the beautiful capital of Paros, Parikia is a beautiful village with whitewashed cubic houses, impressive neoclassical mansions narrow cobbled paths, the old churches, the small shops and the houses in blue and white. Parikia is today one of the most popular and busiest spot of the island, as its cafeterias and restaurants along the waterfront attract many visitors. Parikia is also famous for its vivid nightlife, which makes it along with Naoussa village, the two busiest tourist resorts of Paros.
Frankish Castle:
Perched atop the highest point of Pairikia is the Frankish castle, built in the 13th century. It was constructed in 1260 by Marcus Sanudus, who had conquered, along with Crusaders of Venetian origin, the Cyclades as well as other parts of Greece, and established the Duchy of the Aegean Sea, based in Naxos. Nowadays, only one of the castle walls remains. The material used for its construction was taken from ancient sites that existed nearby, such as the temple of goddess Athena, the protector of the ancient town of Paros.
Panagia Ekatontapiliani:
Panagia Katapoliani is a historic Byzantine church complex in Parikia town, on the island of Paros in Greece. The church complex contains a main chapel surrounded by two more chapels and a baptistery with a cruciform font.
Antiparos:
Antiparos is a small Greek island in the Cyclades group, seperated from Paros by a narrow and shallow strait. It has an area of 45 square kilometers with a 57 kilometer coastline. The capital Antiparos is on the north eastern coast, while the other villages Kambos and Agios Georgios are in the mid-west and on the south western coast, respectively. The islands houses just over 1,000 inhabitants. Antiparos is well recognised for its relaxed, authentic atmosphere. It has many beaches on all sides and offer a nice alternative to the more crowded and hectic islands around it.

The Medieval Village of Lagrasse including its 8th Century Benedictine Abbey
One of the most Beautiful Villages in France, the medieval village of Lagrasse was home to one of the most important abbeys in the south of France. Founded in the 7th century, after a charter ordered by the Frankish King Charlemagne, the Abbey of Sainte-Marie d’Orbieu (named after the river which flows through the village) was originally built in the Romanesque style.
The abbey soon became very wealthy, thanks to several large donations from lords of the area starting around 779 and started to aquire lands, castles, priories and other assets. By the 12th century it ruled over a large territory encompassing the dioceses of Toulouse, Béziers and the County of Barcelona. In the early 13th century the Abbey made even more fortunes, in large due to bounties collected by crusaders during the Albigensian Crusades against the Cathars.
Its fortunes, however, began to decline during the 13th – 15th centuries during which it was reinforced and fortified to protect its riches from the numerous wars being fought, including the Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion. The Abbey enjoyed a renaissance and received renovations, including a new cloister, under its penultimate abbot.
The Abbey closed its doors for the last time during the French Revolution, after which it was put up for sale but never bought. In 2004 the Canons of the Mother of God moved into a portion of the abbey and still reside there today. The unoccupied area was purchased by the State of the Aude in 2007 and is currently undergoing restoration.

Paros Part 1
Paros was the first island we visited. The Blue Star Ferry started off early in the morning from Port Athens. The road from Port Paros to the Hotel Paros was not too long, but a bit bumpy. We visited the chapel in the late afternoon, and enjoyed the sunset on the Frankish Castle.
The footages were taken on 3 equipment:
Panasonic LX-100, the best micro43 point and shoot I have ever used.
LG V10, this may be its last day before the final farewell.

Mystras | Greece | Tourist Destination
Mystras (Greek: Μυστράς, Μυζηθράς, Myzithras in the Chronicle of the Morea) is a fortified town and a former municipality in Laconia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Sparti, of which it is a municipal unit.[2] Situated on Mt. Taygetos, near ancient Sparta, it served as the capital of the Byzantine Despotate of the Morea in the 14th and 15th centuries, experiencing a period of prosperity and cultural flowering. The site remained inhabited throughout the Ottoman period, when it was mistaken by Western travellers for ancient Sparta. In the 1830s, it was abandoned and the new town of Sparti was built, approximately eight kilometres to the east.

The Great Castle of the Country
The Great Castle of Chora or the New Castle is in its present form a Frankish building in Kalymnos. It is located in Chora of Kalymnos, the old capital of the island and opposite the nearby Chrysoheria Castle. It is a castle town after enclosing a medieval settlement.
It is built at the foot of the hill of Prophet Elias at an altitude of 255 meters and occupies an area of 30,450 square meters. He had powerful walls and had only one gate since it was only accessible from the south side which was higher than the ground and went up or down with a chain as needed. Its walls are preserved at a height of up to seven meters and a thickness of 1.50.
The castle was first built in the 11th century by the Byzantines to face the raids of the Ottoman pirate Tzaha. He suffered great disasters from an earthquake in 1492 to be renovated in three years in his present form by the Ioannis knights of Rhodes, where Kalymnos belonged in the meantime.
The settlement of the castle is estimated at 1,200 to 1,500 inhabitants, there are ruins of an olive press, water reservoirs, houses and 10 churches. The castle was inhabited even in the Ottoman domination and in 1912 where it was abandoned by its last inhabitants. Gradually, since the 17th century, residents have been relocated to Chora and Pothia.

Sifnos island 4K, top beaches & sights, Cyclades Greece | Σίφνος, καλύτερες παραλίες
Sifnos, the silent power of the Cyclades.
Evocative landscapes, lively traditions and a relaxed atmosphere: high-quality holidays on the island of balance and harmony
Among the Cycladic islands, Sifnos stands out for both its architecture and natural beauty. Once a thriving gold and silver mining location, it has, since ancient times, cultivated a reputation for the finer things in life. Today the island combines the picturesque with a rich tradition in cuisine and crafts, along with a high-level infrastructure in tourism. Despite its refined culture and “Cycladic chic” ambience, Sifnos retains a low profile that instills peacefulness in the visitor.
The island offers a wide array of beaches, from Panagia Chryssopigi, where you can dive from rocky ledges, to more organized swimming at Kamares, Platys Gialos and Vathy. For those who prefer to avoid crowds there is Fykiada, accessible on foot, while if you rent a yacht or have your own the island has multiple small, secluded natural bays to enjoy.
The town of Artemon is defined by its beautiful neoclassical homes and well-tended narrow streets, while its surrounding villages stand out for their whitewashed courtyards, the deep colors of the bougainvillea and the finely crafted terracotta chimney tops on the roofs. Traditional cuisine on Sifnos includes chickpea soup made in ceramic bowls, mastelo (lamb or kid baked on vine branches) and salad with capers. A swim at the quaint little ancient port of Seralia can be followed by a seafood hors d’oeuvre, and later on by a walk up to the medieval settlement of Kastro (Castle) with the Venetian loggias to see the sunset and finally you can wrap up an eventful day with Sifnos’ rich nightlife.
Apollonia also offers plenty of choices for entertainment, as well as more traditional pursuits, especially the island’s church festivals (panigyri), which are accompanied by food for all and music – the island even has a name for locals who organize the festivals (panigyrades). If you go to the island in September, you will catch the annual Cycladic Gastronomy Festival, named after its native Nikolaos Tselementes, a renowned chef in Greece forever synonymous with the Greek cookbook.
Like a gracious cosmopolitan hostess who also follows local tradition, Sifnos is an island of opposites that work together and provides a mix of people and lifestyles without losing its balance.
Things to do on Sifnos
Trek the trail from Kastro to Eptamartyros
One visit to this conical hill, where you will find the walled mediaeval village of Kastro (Castle), will capture your imagination. Vaulted arches, mystical little chapels, stone cottages nestled behind ancient foundations. Take in the breathtaking view from the trail around the settlement towards the sea to the chapel of Eptamartyrou. Mariners love this point, as well as the port of Seralia that flourished under Frankish rule. There you can savour local delicacies in the quaint little ouzeries.
Cycladic architecture harmonising with nature
The villages of Sifnos are built in perfect harmony with each other and with the landscape. Apollonia, Artemonas, Ag Loukas, Exambelos, Katavati, Pano (Upper) and Kato (Lower) Petali, all dotted around the centre of the island like electrons around a nucleus. Here students come to learn the essentials of Cycladic architecture first hand. During your holidays here, you’ll never tire of walking around them with their cobblestone lanes and whitewashed stairways.
One for the road
Sifnos by night is a one-way road. Whatever you end up doing, you will pass through the famous street of Apollonia, teeming with restaurants, cafes, chapels, boutiques and stone dwellings with beautiful patios; an ideal setting, in fact, for sipping cocktails!
The irresistible beauty of Vathi
From the hill above Vathi, the view is like an aerial photograph. The bay with its calm, deep blue water almost forms a complete circle. St Taxiarchis, a church built in the 16th century, sits on the dock, a landmark at the edge of the beach. This picturesque port, with its sandy beach and seafood restaurants, is guaranteed to charm you.
A site of pilgrimage
At dawn, the sun rises behind the belltower of Chrysopigi Monastery, painting everything in resplendent shades of pink and orange. The 17th century monastery, built on a craggy rock, is the most important pilgrimage site on the island.
