Jose Fernando Santisteban has been working with glass as an artist's medium since 1999. Although receiving a BFA in Literature and Philosophy from Vanderbilt University, he chose to pursue his true passion, glass. Learning first from various artists in Seattle WA, he became well aware of how infectious this passion was and decided to attend RIT in NY for an MFA in Glass Sculpture. Upon the completion of his thesis and degree he decided to further his studies abroad in Venice, Italy where he learned from some of the foremost artists in his field.
The art created by Jose draws upon inspiration from many sources: his Italian Maestros and tradition, Pacific Northwestern art, personal experience and travels, and all things within the divine universe from animals, insects, rocks and infinite space . He believes in the balance of technique with aesthetic. Without a strong footing in both it is readily apparent in the work itself.
Jose currently resides in Franklin, TN and is in the process of opening a studio there. He is a proud father, enjoys all aspects of the arts including an intense interest in music and strives to create beautiful objects that might bring joy to people's lives
