Franschhoek is home to stunning vineyards, fine wine and a 300-year old French heritage. Visiting the cellars around the town is one of the top activities in Franschhoek. One of the most unique ways to explore the vineyards and wineries of the Franschhoek Valley is on the Franschhoek Wine Tram.
The Tram has several lines which give travelers the opportunity to see their pick of 22 wine cellars and estates dotted around the valley. It is a hop on hop off tour – making it an incredibly flexible and convenient way to discover the valley. At each stop, travelers can embark on any of the activities on offer at the selected destinations; from wine tasting to memorable dining experiences, and cellar tours or a walk around the estates. We booked onto the Franshhoek Wine Tram and had a great time visiting the different vineyards and having a delicious lunch. After sunset with some more wine, it was time to head back to Cape Town after one of our best days in South Africa.

Wine Tram in Franschhoek
As locals, it was lekker to experience the Wine Tram in Franschhoek on our 24 hours in Franschhoek. We visited Rickety Bridge, Moreson, Eikehof, Paserene and Le Lude the next day. We love Franschhoek, go there often and really enjoyed the wine tram, bus and tractor rides. The owls in the trees at Eikehof above us while we had our charcuterie board was amazing.
I'd highly recommend the Wine Tram - fun, friendly staff and safe.

Franschhoek Weinbahn - Franschhoek Wine Tram (Südafrika)
In dieser Woche gibts wieder ein Video aus Südafrika. Micha war im Franschhoek-Tal unterwegs und hat die Weinbahn begleitet.
Die Franschhoek Wine Tram fährt durch die Weinanbauregion im Franschhoek-Tal. Es gibt dort nicht nur die offen fahrende Weinbahn zu entdecken, sondern auch schöne Landschaften und viele Weingüter, aber das wäre ein anderes Thema.
Wein wird nur im Süden Südafrikas angebaut und wegen des Klimas auch nur bis zu 50km von der Küste entfernt. Im 17. Jahrhundert kamen 150 französische Hugenotten nach Südafrika und begannen mit dem Anbau vom Wein. Aus dieser Zeit existieren auch heute noch einige Weingüter.
Schon 1890 fuhr die Bahn durch das Tal. Zwischenzeitlich wurde die Weinbahn vor über einem Jahrzehnt eingestellt. Allerdings fährt sie seit kurzem wieder Touristen und Weinliebhaber von Kapstadt aus durch das Tal. In den historischen Nachbau der Weinbahn passen 32 Reiselustige.
