VISITING DEL MAR, CALIFORNIA 2019 (SAN DIEGO, BEACH, AIRBNB, FREE FLIGHT BIRD SANCTUARY, ROAD TRIP)
Good day, fellow adventurers! Here's a new edit from a weekend in San Diego, California. More specifically, we stayed in Del Mar. The Airbnb was incredible. Great views and great hosts. What do you think of the edit? Please leave a quick comment down below.
We drove up from Phoenix the day of and stayed Friday, Saturday, and most of the day Sunday. The first evening is sunset at the Torrey Pines State Reserve. The next day we hung out at the house, went to Chowking, went to the La Jolla Cove area (and the village area), hiked a little ways down, and then brought food back to the house for the evening. The pool and hot tub were perfect.
Day three we checked out and went to the Free Flight Bird Sanctuary in Del Mar. After that we grabbed brunch in Downtown Del Mar @ Zel's Del Mar, then and stopped by the beach. Caught a little sunset on the way home and that was the trip.
One thing I loved was the Airbnb. The hosts were great, the spot was very clean, and the backyard view was incredible.
One thing I regretted was not having a zoom lens, so I ordered one. Lol. I shot 99% with the GoPro which was great, but I would have loved to get some better shots of the seals. They were super cute and playful.
If you have any questions about the trip, where we stayed, how we planned, etc, just drop a comment and I'll respond back as soon as I can. Also, if you enjoyed the video, please give it a thumbs up and leave a comment telling me what you think. I'm working hard to improve on my shooting and editing. Anyway, thanks for watching and subscribe!

Fire Trucks on Display San Diego County Fair 6-7-2014
Fire & Safety Expo/Firefighter Demo Derby presented by Viejas roared back into the San Diego County Fair June 8th. Teams from 15 fire departments customized clunkers to compete for the Steven Brucker Memorial Award.
The Fab Fair is here! The Fair continues Saturday, June 7 through Sunday, July 6 (closed Mondays and the first two Tuesdays), celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles' first visit to the United States, sparking the British Invasion in music and pop culture, influencing even today's musicians. Welcome to the 2014 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Sav-on.
The Del Mar Arena was the center of the day's activities, including live firefighting demonstrations, free giveaways, educational and interactive activities. American Medical Response volunteers taught over 500 attendees how to perform CPR! Outside the arena, visitors could get a close-up look at dozens of derby cars -- and meet the courageous drivers. A big thank you to Dave Stall The Car Guy from KUSI News, who did a great job as event emcee and derby announcer. This year's Burn Run Parade of Fire Engines drew over 45 vehicles. They created quite the scene as they arrived at the fairgrounds with lights flashing!
The official opening ceremonies, emceed by DJ Nolan from 105.7 the Walrus took place later in the day led by bagpiper Rob McNight and members of the Vista and Oceanside Fire Departments Color Guard. The National Anthem was sung by Alfonso Lealcala During the ceremony, the Firefighters Advisory Council to the Burn Institute presented a check for $65,000 representing the proceeds from the day to the Burn Institute.
Dynamic Displays
There was plenty of exciting action with dynamic displays held throughout the day. First was a Jaws of Life demonstration from Miramar Fire Department. Next in line was a thrilling demonstration by Del Mar Lifeguards who rappelled from the overhead rafters 5-stories above the arena floor. The Chula Vista Police Department's K-9 attack dog demonstration followed. Last, Cal Fire roared into the arena to show off its special bulldozing equipment.

Survival GILL NETTING (Usually ILLEGAL!) | Rare Underwater Footage
I test out the cheapest fishing survival gill net on Amazon in a private stocked pond. Originally, we tried to fish out all our trout, but this got to be quite the job since the fish shied away from worms, and lures (preferring pellet feed). As the season wore on, we decided to try to bowfish, spearfish and now, since it iced over, gill net the pond in effort to harvest all our stocked fish.
I will show you rare underwater video from a go pro of a fish actually being caught in the gill net. I will teach you exactly how to hang and use a gill net to catch fish and the size of the mesh you should use. Should you ever find yourself in a survival situation, a gill net is a huge asset. All our fish are provided by Lyndon Trout Hatcheries:
The aerator used in this video provided by The Dug Out Dude:
This gill net is super illegal in most areas, so please be careful using them. Even better, let me test out the gill net! If the nets are legal in your area, you might want to have one nearby in case you are in a survival situation. My Gear (Shop and Support):
I will use an ice auger to drill a channel right through the middle of the pond. Next, we put the gill net underwater. One end of the gill net has floats, the other sinkers, so the idea is to float the gill net in the water column and the fish will try to swim by and get caught in the net and twist all around getting more and more caught up.

San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve is one of the largest remaining coastal wetlands in San Diego County, California, United States. Within its 915 acres there are 6 plant communities; coastal strand, salt marsh, riparian scrub, coastal sage scrub, freshwater marsh, and mixed chaparral. There are more than 300 species of plants, at least 23 species of fish, 26 mammal species, 20 reptiles and amphibians, more than 80 invertebrates, and 300 bird species.
San Elijo Lagoon is part of the Escondido Creek Watershed. Within its approximately 54,000 acres, stretching from the foothills to the coastline, the last remnants of an imperiled coastal scrub habitat connect the northern and southern parts of a globally important ecological region. This coastal scrub habitat is vital to the integrity of San Diego County’s open space network and to the persistence of some of Southern California’s most endangered species, many of which occur nowhere else on the planet.

The Southern California Coast shot by Tampa Aerial Media
We feature Pacific Beach, Torrey Pines Golf Course, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Santa Barbara in this video of the Southern California Coast.
Pacific Beach in San Diego is bordered by La Jolla to the north, and Mission Bay to the south. The boardwalk, a pedestrian walkway that runs approximately 3.2 miles along the beach from the end of Law St. in the north down into Mission Beach. There are numerous local shops, bars, hotels, and restaurants along the boardwalk, and it is generally crowded with pedestrians, cyclists, rollerbladers, and shoppers. For more info see
A fly over Torrey Pines Golf Course provides an amazing view of the rich greens overlooking the rocky cliffs of the Pacific Ocean.
Newport Beach, is known for its large, boat-filled harbor as you see on this video. It has become a popular tourist destination with its wine tastings and sunset crusises. For more info see
Huntington Beach located in Orange County is known for its long 9.5-mile stretch of sandy beach, mild climate, excellent surfing, and beach culture. The ocean waves are enhanced by a natural effect caused by the edge-diffraction of open ocean swells around Santa Catalina Island. Swells generated predominantly from the North Pacific in winter and from a combination of Southern Hemisphere storms and hurricanes in the summer focus on Huntington Beach, creating consistent surf all year long.
Santa Barbara is a city on the central California coast, with the Santa Ynez Mountains as dramatic backdrop. Downtown, Mediterranean-style white stucco buildings with red-tile roofs reflect the city’s Spanish colonial heritage.

Paragliders Soaring off the Cliffs of Blacks Beach at the Torrey Pines Gliderport | video 5
Come check out some of the paragliders and hang gliders at the Torrey Pines Gliderport at Torrey Pines Scenic Road just above Blacks Beach and cliffs in La Jolla California. Torrey Pines Gliderport
A Historic San Diego Coastal Landmark and Attraction
Soar from the cliffs of La Jolla Torrey Pines and float over 400 feet in the sky about beautiful cliffs and Blacks Beach on the Pacific Ocean . The Torrey Pines Glider Port provides some spectacular views 350 feet above Blacks Beach and the San Diego coastline.
Paragliding lessons (three to four days) cost around USD495 and hangliding lessons cost USD125 per hour. The fastest way to experience flight is to go tandem with an instructor for a 20-minute ground school followed by a 25-minute in-air flight, which costs USD150 per person. Reservations are required for lessons, none accepted for tandem flights, just call for weather conditions before coming.
The historic Torrey Pines Gliderport has been listed as a National Soaring Landmark by the National Soaring Museum, a San Diego City Historical Site, and is listed on the California Register and National Registers of Historic Places. It is the only gliderport adjacent to west coast of America that supports four different forms of motorless aviation; hang gliders, paragliders, radio-controlled model sailplanes and full-scale sailplanes. The cliffs along Torrey Pines have been used for soaring since at least 1930 and many famous aviators have earned their wings training at the gliderport. During World War II, the gliderport was used as part of Camp Callan for the training of U.S. Army cadets. After the war, sailplanes returned and have flown continuously at the location since 1946. Several national and international soaring records have been set at the site over the years.
The Executive Council of the Torrey Pines Gliderport Historical Society is known as the Torrey Pines Soaring Council. This Council is a collection of members from the various glider clubs that use this historic gliderport and has helped coordinate issues between the users and property owners of the site since 1978. Members on the Council represent the Torrey Pines Radio Controlled Soaring Society, Inc., San Diego Hang Glider and Paraglider Association, Associated Glider Clubs of Southern California, United States Hang Glider Association, the Soaring Society of America, Academy of Model Aeronautics, and the Torrey Pines Scale Soaring Society.
