Places to See In Ruse
Places to See In Ruse
Ruse is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria, located by the Danube river, across the border with Giurgiu, Romania. It's a small city with a lot to offer, so read below to find out what you can do if you ever stop by.
It's amazing how such a small city can have places that go beyond this list. If you ever feel like stopping by the Eastern Europe, go to see Bulgaria, you won't regret it.

Number 1 : The Freedom Square
Like me, this will probably be the first place you will see in the city. It's right in the center and it holds the Monument of Liberty. It's a beautiful square where every now and then they have free concerts and events for politicians. You can easily find everything you need around it, book stores, bakery shops, restaurants, perfumeries and even second hand shops like Humana, famous in and outside Europe.
Number 2 : The TV Tower
Nowadays, it's not open for visitation like it once was, but definitely worth seeing as it is the tallest of Bulgaria, with 204 meters. In the surroundings of the tower, they have a cozy restaurante called Leventa, popular for events like wedding parties and birthday.
Number 3 : The Museum of History
Although not all the descriptions are in English, you can learn so much about the history of the city and see very unique artefacts.
Number 4 : The Eco Museum and Aquarium
The aquarium downstairs is quite small, but the tour can be easily rated 5 stars just by seeing the very real mammoth they have upstairs and the decoration set up in the whole building. Not everything will be written in English, once more, but if you are a fan of fauna and flora you should definitely visit this place.
Number 5 : The Pantheon
This is a tricky one for me to write about as I have never been inside, but just the outside is enough to amaze you. The architecture and location contribute to making you want to know more. It was built for the national heroes who died for the freedom of the country, therefore, it holds a lot of history.

Bulgaria: Candelit vigil commemorates murdered journalist
A candlelit vigil was held in Sofia's Saint Nedelia square on Monday to express outrage at the brutal murder of Bulgarian journalist Victoria Marinova.
The 30-year-old TV anchor, who in the week before her murder had reported on an investigation into alleged corruption by local politicians and businessmen involving EU funds, was found raped and murdered in a park in Ruse, near the river Danube, on Saturday.
It is still unclear whether the murder is related to Marinova's journalistic work.
Press freedom has been under attack in Bulgaria over the past decade according to Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Bulgaria is the lowest ranked EU member country in terms of press freedom, coming in at 111th in the Press Freedom Index. Bulgarian oligarchs are alleged to have colluded with publishers and political parties to create an atmosphere that threatens the existence of independent media and hides the misuse of EU and state funds.

After the relative calm of the decade of the 1990s, since 2002 Romania has experienced a dramatic increase in property prices.Between 2002-2007 the median price for an old communist-era apartment rose by a factor of 10 , from around €10,000 to c.€100,000.Today some apartments in central Bucharest have prices comparable with those of properties in Paris or London, and in virtually every small town the median housing price rivals that of similar towns in the European Union.
