Freemasons are an English DJ duo from Brighton, East Sussex, England.
Their name is taken from the Brighton pub, Freemasons Tavern, Hove, which they frequently visit. The duo also record and remix under the similar-sounding Freemaison name, which is also the name of their record label that was founded in 2005. Freemasons have also produced tracks under the names of Alibi, Walken, Funk Fanatics and BN3 (which is part of their hometown of Hove's postal code).
On 29 October 2007, the Freemasons released Unmixed, an album containing unmixed versions of most of their mixes to date.As a bonus, there is a data track containing samples and a cappella versions of Unmixed. In 2007, The Freemasons worked with Kelly Rowland, to produce the remix of her single Work, for the non-American markets. In 2007 they were rumored to be producing an album for Donna Summer, but the project fell through due to scheduling commitments.
The follow-up to their own Uninvited, When You Touch Me, was released in the UK on 30 June 2008. The song featured Katherine Ellis. The video premiered in May 2008. The song entered the UK Singles Chart in June 2008 and reached its peak of #23 on 6 July.
Freemasons released the song Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer), featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor, on 15 June 2009 in the United Kingdom. The single peaked at #13 in the UK, making it their fifth Top 20 hit on the UK Singles Chart, and was a smash hit on the club charts. It had success in the European charts. X Factor 2008 winner Alexandra Burke confirmed on her official website that the Freemasons had produced tracks for her debut album.
In April 2012, Russell discussed with fans after a gig in Bournemouth about talk of signing a new contract on Ministry of Sound's label, to release an album in early 2013. He is quoted as saying It's still early days, however they have said that they will want lots of collaborations. It's something to look forward to.

320 by 180 pixels .mp4 seems smartphone size = 1/4 DVD size. That makes sense for watching where there are start up and buffering issues, such as, in pubs and cafes etc. where lots of people are using broadband of dubious capacity. Hence: Editor's Choice - Jazz Machine 4Smartphone/ Stereo.mp4
Note the wide angle lens and not enough light for videography, hence grain. So, I am having to set the white balance in post production and turn the temperature up. I removed the fisheye lens curves. The camera has a maximum track length of 11 minutes and 49 seconds, then it stops and starts a new track file… annoying! There is a slight glitch when you stitch tracks together: two here! So, you have to stop start the recording for every song! Anyhow, 7 vinyl singles used to be about 3 minutes long. People only look on youtube for about 1 and 2/3rds minutes anyhow… perhaps, the videos are too static! Artists expect expertly framed, multi-angle and multi-distance shots… zooms and pans, effects and perfect sound, all for free! I suppose that I should try to fade the audio in and out, but it's quarter to midnight and I like sharp dynamic attack, (waves have a graphical shape: an attack, decay, sustain and release envelope)! No metering or gain adjustment on the camera, just -10dB on the microphone if it gets too loud, otherwise the rhythm pumps with the vocals (automatic gain control)…a hit and miss, guessing game! These videos are recorded on 1/2 electret stereo XY stereo mics that roll of at low E 40Hz, because I like to hear bass. I would like to try two shotgun mics facing forward, ear distance apart.
Lighting Tech (not used here): See rotolight (that would get in the way of the line of sight of the audience and blow about) also Zylight the Newz $429 both available now.
