Carnival and Royal Caribbean Face Years Of Rebuilding Freeport Shipyard The Harbor and Grand Bahama Now that Hurricane Dorian has left the Bahamas, the clean up and rebuilding must begin. For Carnival and Royal Caribbean however the effects of the storm will be felt for years to come as the entire harbor for Freeport was almost totally destroyed. Containers from the port were scattered all over the island and into the sea by the storm surge and winds. The shipyard that the cruise lines own and operate, was also heavily damaged and that does not account for the fact that the largest drydock was already not in use due to the damage caused from the Oasis of the Seas accident last spring. Workers are missing, their homes destroyed, and their children's schools wiped out. The island of Grand Bahama is almost a third world place without running water, working sewage, no electricity, garbage collection, police service, grocery stores, gas stations or working roads. It will take billions of dollars that the Bahamian government mat not have or can get to begin to restore the island like before. People must be moved off of the island to survive and a coordinated plan must be made and followed to rebuild Grand Bahama Island. Carnival and Royal Caribbean will not be able to refurbish any ships in thjeir shipyard for maybe a couple of years. This is going to cause major disruptions for the cruise lines as they will need to relocate all of their refurbishment plans for many ships to other locations as far away as Aisa and Europe. #carnival #royalcaribbean #grandbahama

Carnival Cruise Day 4 | Freeport, Bahamas

Day 4 of our Carnival Liberty cruise and we visit Freeport in the Bahamas! This island has a lot of excursions which are far away from the port; we unfortunately didn't experience any though we did spend the day in the market area. While in the market area we spent time at Señor Frogs which was so much fun and Amanda won a competition!
