SYDNEY LA PEROUSE & CONGWONG BEACH
SYDNEY – LA PEROUSE & CONGWONG BEACH
On a hot summery day, we went to Congwong beach at La Perouse. What a gorgeous day it turned out to be, plenty of strong wind, (you can hear it in the video) and gorgeous crystal clear warm water. Congwong is a very small family beach, beloved by many and its perfect for snorkeling and swimming because the swells are gentle. I hope you enjoy this video, if you have any questions or observations please include them in the comments section below. A little about La Perouse:-
La Perouse is a suburb in south-eastern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The suburb of La Perouse is located about 14 kilometres southeast of the Sydney central business district, in the City of Randwick.
The La Perouse peninsula is the northern headland of Botany Bay. It is notable for its old military outpost at Bare Island and the Kamay Botany Bay National Park. Congwong Bay Beach, Little Congwong Beach, and the beach at Frenchmans Bay provide protected swimming areas in Botany Bay. La Perouse is one of few Sydney suburbs with a French name, others being Sans Souci, Engadine and Vaucluse. Kurnell is located opposite, on the southern headland of Botany Bay.
La Perouse was named after the French navigator Jean-François de Galaup, comte de Lapérouse (1741–88), who landed on the northern shore of Botany Bay west of Bare Island on 26 January 1788. Captain Arthur Phillip and the first fleet of convicts had arrived in Botany Bay a few days earlier. Louis XVI of France had commissioned Lapérouse to explore the Pacific.[3] In April 1770 James Cook's expedition had sailed onto the east coast of Australia whilst exploring the south Pacific searching for Terra Australis or ‘Land of the South’. Upon King Louis XVI's orders, Lapérouse departed Brest, France, in command of the Astrolabe and Boussole on 1 August 1785 on a scientific voyage of the Pacific inspired by the voyages of Cook. La Perouse in Sydney's south is named after the leader of this French expedition.
The first building in the area was the octagonal stone tower constructed in 1820-22 as accommodation for a small guard of soldiers stationed there to prevent smuggling, and the tower still stands today.[20] By 1885, an Aboriginal reserve had been established in the suburb and a number of missions were operated in the area. The original church was dismantled and moved to the corner of Elaroo and Adina Avenues, where it still stands.
A kiosk was built in 1896 to cater for tourists who came to see the attractions, including snake-handling shows.[21] During the Great Depression, from the late 1920s, many severely affected low-income families took up residence here in settlements beside the Aboriginal reserve.
The small island just inside the heads was described by Captain James Cook as ‘a small bare island’. Bare Island was fortified in 1885, according to a design by colonial architect, James Barnet (1827–1904), and fitted with heavy guns. In 1912 Bare Island became a retirement home for war veterans, which continued to operate until 1963 when it was handed over to the New South Wales Parks and Wildlife Service for use as a museum and tourist attraction.[22]
Apart from the fortification on Bare Island two other fortifications are located within La Perouse, one of them, Fort Banks is located on Cape Banks. This facility was part of the Eastern Command Fixed Defences unit, it was designed and positioned in a way that would allow it to protect the approaches to Botany Bay in the event of a sea born attack during the World War II period. Henry Head Battery, constructed 1892 - 1895, operated until 1910, when the fort became obsolete. The battery along with two gun-emplacements and observation posts was recommissioned for use during the second World War.[23]
Heritage listings[edit]
La Perouse has a number of heritage-listed sites, including:
• Bare Island Fort[24]
• 46 Adina Avenue: La Perouse Mission Church[25]
• 1-39 Bunnerong Road: Chinese Market Gardens (La Perouse)[26]

Frenchmans Bay Walk at La Perouse
Frenchmans Bay is a calm bay with a beautiful sandy beach located in Botany Bay in the suburb of La Perouse, on Botany Bay. Shops and restaurants are located nearby and there's a children's playground and public toilets in the adjacent reserve. The walk from Frenchmans Bay to Phillip Bay is magical, along well made paths, fine white sandy beaches, trails enclosed by abundant green canopy. Sydney is just a few kilometres away, but here is like a Pacific tropical paradise (It is a tropical Pacific paradise).
The indigenous people of the area lived here for millenia, Captain Cook visited in 1770, Arthur Phillip landed in 1788, just ahead of La Perouse. And you can walk in their footsteps!
FILIPINOS VISIT THE BREATHTAKING LA PEROUSE BEACH,NEW SOUTH WALES,SYDNEY &FIRST TIME EATING BAHN MI!
Hello Everyone. Hi KaTalkies.
First time going to Sydney, Australia to meet Irene, May and the rest of the Baay Family. We left early from Brisbane at 6:55am and arrived in Sydney in an hour. We were very excited to see the postcard perfect photos of the world renowned Opera House and of course, some tourist spots in Sydney. First stop, we went to one of the best Pork Rolls in town, then to La Perouse Beach where we spent some great, awesome time taking pictures , enjoying the view and where we also have eaten the Banh Mi (Pork Roll) bread with pork rolls in it. It was filling and healthy.
We met a new friend dog, Chester, and had a magnificent moment seeing a Sea Gull gliding over my head. It was amazing!
After this, we headed to Baay’s Home.
IT IS GREAT TO BE IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.

La Perouse is a suburb in south-eastern Sydney, Australia. It is located about 14 kilometres from the Sydney central business district in the City of Randwick. It is on the northern side of Botany Bay near where Captain Cook landed in 1770 and where in January 1788 Captain Arthur Phillip and the First Fleet planned to establish the first convict settlement. Phillip, however, decided that Sydney on Port Jackson was a more suitable site and so moved the fleet there on 26th January 1788 just as the Frenchman La Perouse (Jean-Francois de Galaup, Comte de la Perouse) and his two ships sailed into Botany Bay. La Perouse and his crew stayed for 6 weeks and then sailed north - his expedition perishing in shipwreck on the island of Vanikoro.
The area has beautiful beaches, historical relics such as Macquarie Watchtower, Bare Island Fort and Cable House. It is popular for bridal photography, especially for Japanese honeymooners and the drivers of hotted cars. Cafes and restaurants are clustered around Endeavour Avenue.

Hey There Australia - Plain White T's
At La Perouse, an inner east Sydney elite suburb on a beautiful Saturday (12/12/09) late afternoon.
La Perouse is an historical haven that blends Aboriginal, French and Colonial traditions. Named after the navigator Jean-Francois de Galaup de La Perouse, the first Frenchman to arrive in Australia in 1788, this treasure is resplendent with beaches, bays and bushland.
La Perouse's museum contains original maps, antique scientific instruments and intriguing relics recovered from the wrecks of La Perouse's frigates Boussole and Astrolabe. The museum is also the starting point of a walking trail ending at Endeavour Lighthouse where you're rewarded with spectacular views across the bay to the site of Captain Cook's landing place.
Worth exploring and accessible via a bridge from La Perouse is the tiny Bare Island, the site of a fort completed in 1885 to strengthen Sydney's coastal defence. On weekends there are Aboriginal artefacts, all of which are for sale, on display at the park. Just to the north is tranquil Yarra Bay, a great spot from which to view sailing boats racing across Botany Bay.
Dine at the waterfront Boatshed Cafe or the Yarra Bay 16ft Sailing Club and watch the sailing boats and windsurfers skim the bay. Enjoy a picnic or swim at one of the tranquil bays surrounding La Perouse. View the Macquarie Watchtower, the oldest existing building on the Bay's shores and Australia's first customs house, built in 1820-21. Take a scenic coastal walk through the National Park enjoying the wonderful ocean and bay views, rock pools, flora and fauna. Enjoy the famous snake and reptile show on Sundays and public holidays from 1.30pm (weather permitting).

Cruwee Cove Beach would have to be the least known beach of the Eastern Suburbs and also one of the hardest to get to.
Drive to the NSW Golf Club then turn left to go out towards the helicopter landing strip where you will find a small car park, and follow the path toward Cape Banks.
Oh, one more thing to remember you also have to walk part way through the Golf Course so stay on the track.
If you’re lucky, you could see Whales
Remember there are no amenities, so make sure you take food and water.
Cruwee Cove Beach it’s a great to snorkel & check out the remains of the shipwrecked SS Minmi
The SS Minmi was built in Glasgow, Scotland in 1927. She was 75 metres long and displaced 1,455 tons. The Minmi was a collier, carrying coal from Newcastle to Melbourne and returning empty.

the carpark near the park entry gates on Anzac Parade, opposite Goorawahl Avenue.
Take a break to admire the views, and check out Henry Head’s historic World War II battlements – part of Sydney’s early coastal defence systems.
If all this isn’t enough to pique your interest, there’s always the bird watching. Kookaburras, lorikeets and yellow-tailed black cockatoos are just some of the species you might encounter as you stride along this walk. Reptiles such as skinks, blue-tongue lizards and water dragons are also common around here.
