The Air Up There - South Emsall, Wakefield
Aerial Footage of South Emsall
South Elmsall is a small town and civil parish which lies to the east of Hemsworth in the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. The town had a population in 2001 of 6,107, increasing to 6,519 at the 2011 Census.
The town was largely a small farming settlement until the industrial revolution and the sinking of collieries caused a boom in population and a need for modern housing for the workforce. This has left a town with a mixture of stone and brick buildings. The town and its neighbours were mentioned in the Domesday Book. Other industries such as quarrying for stone, agriculture and brick manufacture were also known at different periods of the town's history, with many of the former buildings and sites associated with them still existing.
Frickley Country Park officially opened in September 2009, after a long period of land reclamation, environmental cleaning and landscaping of the former Frickley Colliery site was finished. The site offers walks and play areas as well as space for new housing development as part of the wider regeneration scheme.

Save Lister Baths Battle, Featherstone West Yorkshire, vid1
Featherstone's Lister Baths swimming pool was opened in May 1910. Thousands attended the opening ceremony which was carried out by coal mine owner John Cunliffe Lister. John gifted the amenity to the people of the town as a show of his appreciation for the work they did at the local collieries.
It has been 10 years since the battle to Save Lister Baths began. The battle was highly political and resulted in the people of Featherstone standing up to fight. As a result the long standing Labour Party lost all its seats in the local elections.
One person can make a difference. The many people in Featherstone that were woken proved that with their votes and new found comradeships.

Felkirk Church and School
Scrapbook collection of Felkirk Church and School. Please visit the facebook group page for more detailed info on the areas history. The stone construction of the building was commissioned around the same time as Pontefract Castle in 1100 and built shortly after. It has obviously had extensions since and replaced a wooden church that had stood here for atleast 150 years prior. The school was originally built about 1650.
