ABOUT ►
Hi there beautiful face. My name is Louise but you can just call me Kelly. Why? Well, because in third grade I had a secret Destiny's Child band with two of my friends and naturally the name stuck with me throughout my childhood, teen years and all the way into adulthood - thank you Kelly Rowland. I started this channel in late 2007 because I wanted somewhere to upload the back-then-oh-so-serious Proof videos because I had a popular myspace account under the name of Kelly Killjoy. I had weird hair and swore a lot and I guess people liked that or just loved to hate it. I really shouldn't put swore in past tense. Anyway, I came back to the channel in 2013 and started loosely making videos and after a while I was like: hey this is actually pretty cool, so from early 2015 I started doing videos once a week, and I have no idea what I'm doing! Welcome to the channel:

Look About: The Friendship Light from Copenhagen, Denmark at Sequoia Lake, California
become a fan on Facebook:
The Friendship Light Story began with Mogens Madsen, Waterfront Director at Camp Sequoia. He was touched by the plight of a young polio victim who gamely hobbled to his cabin in the dark with other campers precariously close to the lake. Madsen figured some lighting around the lakes margin would help.
Mogens Madsen grew up in Copenhagen, Denmark after World War I. Those were hard years for the Danes. Despite the hardships, he grew up to be successful in the field of international gymnastics, a Danish underground soldier, and interior decorator of note, and a man sensitive to the needs of the young. His memories of his boyhood in Copenhagen would stay with him for the rest of his life and would later touch the lives of many; he would become a central figure in the Friendship Light Story.
Mogens professional career as a teacher was harshly interrupted by World War II and the five-year occupation of Denmark by Germany. Mogens had enlisted in the Danish army and served in the underground until his country was liberated. Following the war, he pursued both the career of an interior decorator and an ardent gymnast. It was his skill as a gymnast that brought him to the United States as a member of the 1949-50 Danish Gym Team. At an exhibition in Fresno, he met his future bride Ellen. They soon returned to Fresno where a contact with the YMCA and his proven ability as a gymnast and teacher led to his employment as the Summer Waterfront Director at Camp Sequoia. It was there he was to meet Bruce Gregg, the ten-year old polio victim.
After campfire that night, Mogens picked up his Danish newspaper sent to him from his homeland and read that his native city, Copenhagen, was dismantling the gas lights from its streets. These lights had cast their glow in Copenhagen for 100 years. To many Danes, the street lights were symbols of freedom, for during the Nazi occupation of Denmark the lights were turned off. They were illuminated only at the wars end.
Mogens wanted to write his friends in Copenhagen to ask for one of these lights. He enlisted the aid of his friend, Phil Jenkins, a Cabin Counselor at the Camp who became the Chairman of the Friendship Light Project, and they began to make the complex arrangements to obtain one.
On March 16, 1955, the crated lamp, a gift from the youth of Denmark to the boys and girls of America, arrived at Pier 33 in San Francisco aboard the M.S. Panama. Accompanying the lamp was the Royal Danish Cosul, Frode Shoen. The lamp was electrified and set in concrete on the Lake shore. On April 30, 1955, the lamp was officially illuminated on the Lake shore to shone over the waters during that summers camping season. Harris Holm (10), a YMCA camper, was the official lamplighter in a ceremony attended by 100 campers. Phil Jenkins, the Chairman of the Committee and Master of Ceremonies, asked the campers, What will the Friendship Light mean to you? Will it be a symbol of truth, of friendship, and of brotherhood among men?

Copenhagen Vlog #1 (Kindness)
Copenhagen Vlog #1: My first day traveling to Copenhagen, Denmark; my first destination in Europe. It's my first attempt to really document and vlog my experiences of traveling. It's also my first time traveling to Europe, first time traveling alone, and first time in these cities and unfamiliar places. Although one thing I know is for sure, there is always kindness and goodhearted people wherever you go in this world. In the midst of all the chaos and uncertainty that looms in your mind, I hope this inspires you to get over your fears of traveling alone. Will you let fear win or freedom win? Follow your heart, and it will always lead you to unforgettable people and friendships, priceless memories, and fulfillment of your heart's calling.
Many thanks to the people who have helped me prior to this as well as during this memorable and priceless journey , it would not have been the same without your kindness and unforgettable presence. With deepest gratitude, you are truly appreciated. Tusind Tak.

Copenhagen Host Program - Helping Newcomers to settle in - København
People come to Copenhagen from all over the world for many different reasons. For many newcomers it can be a challenge to learn the language, get to know the local community and establish a network that can lead to friendship, job or education.
Copenhagen Host Program helps newcomers to settle in. It matches newcomers who have been in Denmark for less than 3 years, with local volunteer hosts who speak the Danish language and know about the local community and job market. Meetings between newcomers and volunteer hosts enables mutual learning between fellow citizens and helps newcomers get a good start on their life in Copenhagen.
Copenhagen Host Program is a co-operation between Copenhagen Municipality (Københavns Kommune) and Association New Danes (Foreningen Nydansker)

Mørket vil have mere
dagene bliver korte
jeg har brugt de sidste kroner
på at male mine sorte
København,
dine øjne bliver flere og flere
og dine døtre
fortæl dem jeg ikke venter mere

Police check passports of people arriving fro Denmark
(13 Nov 2015) Swedish police on Friday were continuing to check the passports of rail passengers who were arriving in Malmo on trains from neighbouring Denmark.
At Hyllie railway station – the first stop on the Swedish side of the border – about 20 police officers patrolled the platform and boarded trains heading for central Malmo.
Sweden's third largest city is about half an hour by train from the Danish capital, Copenhagen.

Denmark 101 - How To Meet Danes - Ep. 6
Perhaps THE most common question among recently arrived internationals in Denmark is, How do I meet Danes?.
In this video I delve into the topic, offer suggestions and a few comments that should ease you in the process and help you better understand why building Danish friendships can, at times, require an entirely different approach than you may be familiar with in your home culture.
Don't miss Episode 7 which builds on this video with specific advice on how to make Danish friends. See it here:
Sorry about the light! Sun came out and overwhelmed the camera.

Denmark and its residents are a fascinating group. In this video series I'll be leveraging my observations and research to share with you insights into how to get the most of your interactions with the Danes and time in Denmark regardless the duration of your visit. One day or ten years - my goal is to share observations I've made from 3.5 years living, studying, and working among the Danes.
If you're Danish hopefully you'll find this series interesting, a bit informative, and not too outlandishly offensive.
If you're a foreigner coming to Denmark, I hope this helps you build upon observations and insights the rest of us had to find out the hard way.
Topics that will be covered include the Danish approach to nudity, how to make Danish friends, how to meet Danes, Danish manners, and even a look at Janteloven.
Stay tuned for future updates - this is just the beginning!

Currently, we consist of 12 active members between the ages of 15 and 23. Every member is an important part of our team, and we treasure and rely heavely on our friendship, to cooperate on our projects.
