Things NOT To Do in Cambodia
Travelers to Cambodia still need to be wary when they head to the beautiful country. If you want to make the most of a trip to Cambodia, here are some simple tips and suggestions to help make it the journey of a lifetime.
1. Don’t Help the Children
Okay, that sounds wickedly insensitive. The kids approaching on the street are likely being forced into begging or selling or even asking for basic needs like milk and books. Those children aren’t getting anything you give them, that's why.
2. Don't wear jewelry
Keep your valuables securely in your pocket until you absolutely need to use them. Don’t carry a backpack or a purse. Leave the jewelry at home. Generally try to affect an appearance of having little to no cash on your person.
3. Don't use your left hand
Just like in a lot of Asian countries, the left hand is considered to be unclean. So, it’s best to avoid indicating objects, greeting people, eating, or basically touching anything with your left hand.
4. Don't forgets pickpockets
If you go to Phnom Penh’s bustling night spots, you'll have a good time. However, take as few valuables as possible, sit with your back to a wall so no one can slink up behind you and be sure to keep a close eye on your cash.
5. Don’t Exchange Your American Dollars For Riels
The currency in Cambodia is the riel. It takes about 4,000 riels to equal a dollar. As a result, even Cambodians don’t particularly care for the riel. Most establishments will happily accept US dollars. Great!
6. Don't be disrespectful
Cambodia is home to the largest religious monument in the world, Angor Wat. The complex actively welcomes visitors, but it’s also a functioning religious site. When you visit, make sure you treat the place with the respect it’s due.
7. Don't speak English with certain people
The most popular language in Cambodia is English. However, con artists and criminals will approach you and strike up an English conversation. If that happens, pretend you speak German. Or French. It’ll make any undesirables go away that much faster.
8. Don't be careless on a Tuk Tuk
These are essentially just carriages strapped to the back of bikes or motorcycles. Some drivers will take you far out of the way and then charge to get you back on the right course. There are more scams, so be careful.
9. Don’t Point at Anything
In Cambodia, it’s pretty easy to make a mistake while gesticulating. Pointing is considered extremely rude. Instead, indicate directions and the like by holding out your open right hand.
10. Don't receive a non-legit Massage
Some of these establishments are legit and you have nothing to fear but the loss of your tension. Others, however, exploit their workers and treat them as virtual slaves. So, if you head to a massage parlor, go to a legit one.
Where do you want to know what not to do in next?

Weird Things in a Cambodian Supermarket! :-P
I go to the supermarket in Battambang to pick up little food items like 5 days a week lately. There are some odd things that I noticed my first time there, and other things that I had walked past many times before realizing it was unusual. This is of course meant to be lighthearted and silly, and I would love to hear what non-Americans think is strange to them in the U.S.!

Pate bacon bread 4000 riel for one bread | Street foods in Phnom Penh
This is one of the best and cheap street foods in Phnom Penh city. It's bread with pate, bacon, pickled papaya. It's yummy and crunchy as they keep the bread on hot grill and with their tasty sauce. The bread is yummy and cheap as the price for one whole bread is 4,000 riel and half of it is 2,000 riel.

Eating Grilled Stuff With Friends On Friday In Phnom Penh II
Phnom Penh is the capital and largest city of Cambodia, located at the confluence of the Mekong and the Tonle Sap rivers.
Understand
Despite being liberated from the homicidal Khmer Rouge by the Vietnamese back in 1979, Phnom Penh has long remained a bit rough. However, things are improving, although roads remain shabby, traffic chaotic and electricity strained.
The city is slowly gaining high rise buildings and traffic lights. The beauty that made it a 'Paris of the East' before 1970 is unfortunately well hidden, though there are a few French colonial buildings remaining. The wide boulevards and promenades envisaged by the French have become parking spaces and market stalls: pedestrians are not in favour.
The most pleasant strolling is to be done along the park-like river frontage, which hosts cafés and restaurants aplenty. Standard tourist sights are few, which makes the city a place to relax, watch the street life and absorb the local colour. Phnom Penh is a worthwhile destination for those who enjoy an 'edgy' experience and can brave the downsides of reckless driving, noise, and poverty. Touts and beggars abound, the worst area is the tourist strip along the river. Be firm, and a polite refusal may work.

I never expected to do so much fun, touristy stuff in Cambodia so fast. I already went to Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Kampot, Kep, Bokor Mountain, and seen most of the tourist attractions around Battambang where I live. It’s hard to believe I'm actually working here.
But I do have a full-time volunteer position in Cambodia, and I explain that side of my travels in this video!

PHNOM PENH CAMBODIA TRIP | CAMBODIA TRAVEL VLOG | BEST IN CAMBODIA
This Video was last March 2018. We haven’t start vlogging yet last year so we didnt take videos only photos. So hope you’ll like it guys.
Day one in PHNOM PENH CAMBODIA
In the morning we walk to the river head over the sisowath quay, We had quick visit to Wat Phnom temple, this is a big religious historical park. In the afternoon we waited for an hour because Royal palace and Silver Pagoda will be only open at 11am and 2pm. Royal palace is close to silver pagoda so we visited this two for an hour, Palace have Entrance fee so we paid 10usd each, its quiet expensive but its worth to visit. So at Night we relax and walk again to the river since we love to walk we found this place and applause for cambodia, beers, cocktails, and other alcohol drinks are so cheap its only $1.50, then we eat to a Romantic place.. so yeah cambodia just like vietnam they are both french colony.. we had a very tiring day but worth it.
2nd day in phnom penh
We started our second day in killing fields, we booked and i was amazed that grab here is different, its like a tricycle in the phil. So we went to the killing fields its kinda boring to visit this place but if you like history for sure you will love it, we used audio handset to hear the story of killing fields, we tour the place for an hour, it was horrible to hear what happened in this area, so after we went to KF we walked again going to sisowath quay, so while were touring the place ,we found this bicycle..and we went to the russian market to buy some stuff, at night we watched cultural dance in national museum, it reminds me the phil which is we also have a cultural dance.
Third day in phnom penh, our last day..we had a quick walk again going to national museum and i craved for mango with chili since last night, So we passed by to the street to buy mango..
so yeah we only had few hours to tour this place so we walked a lot and we dont mind if we walked for 4 hours under the sun. Like killing fields we used audio to listen the history what story behind of this sculptures and statues, the entrance fee is 25usd including the audio set, after national museum we walked again going to central market and after that we went back to the hotel to get our luggage so yeah we explore Phnom penh for only three days, we had fun and enjoyed a lot on this trip..

During a bicycle tour in Hoi An, Vietman, I became known as Riverman! So I created a fun video about the whole event! I love swimming in wild rivers when I travel and after a session of basket-boating I could not resist taking a dip! This brought back a fond memory of my time living in a village in the outskirts of Siem Reap and sending time with two locals who became like family to me, Chicken & Mr.Po, who feature in this video and often in my

Phnom Penh Attractions
Wat Phnom (Wat Phnom Daun Penh)
Wat Phnom, the namesake and symbol of the capital city of Phnom Penh, sets prominently atop an artificial 27 meter hill (or 'Phnom') in the northeastern section of the city. Legend has it that Daun Penh, a wealthy widow, retrieved a large koki tree trunk from the river. She had hoped to use it for a house, but inside a hollow of the trunk, she found four statues of the Buddha. She then ordered for a section of her property to be elevated for a small shrine to be erected to revere the statues. This became a sacred site and people started to settle around the hill; eventually, this became the city it now is. It is here that the city gets its name: ‘Phnom’ means hill in Khmer and ‘Penh’ is of course the name of the lady.
Royal Palace
The Royal Palace of Cambodia is a complex of buildings, even though it is generally understood to be the royal abode of the King of Cambodia. The compound was the citadel of King Ponhea Yat (1393-1463) and rebuilt to its present state in 1886, when King Norodom (1834-1904) relocated the royal capital from Oudong to Phnom Penh. The buildings with beautiful towering spires are a great example of classic Khmer architecture found in Cambodia today.
Along with numerous other interesting buildings, within the 183,135 square meters (421m x 435m) compound is The Khemarin Palace, also known as Prasat Khemarin or the Palace of the Khmer King. This is officially the residence of His Majesty, King Norodom Sihamoni.
Silver Pagoda
The Silver Pagoda, also known as the Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morokat (the Emerald Pagoda) to Cambodians, lies within the grounds of the Royal Palace, which is situated near the banks of the Mighty Mekong.
Originally a wooden structure, the palace was initially constructed in 1892 during the reign of King Norodom, but rebuilt to its present grandeur by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1962. The king spared no effort to make this a true embodiment of brilliant Khmer art. More than 5300 pcs of 1.125 kilo silver tiles are used to cover the floor of the Silver Pagoda, and the silver pieces collectively weigh over six tons.
National Museum
The National Museum of Cambodia in Phnom Penh is the country’s leading historical and archaeological museum. It was officially inaugurated by King Sisowat in 1920.
Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach)
Independence Monument (Vimean Ekareach) built in 1958 as a memorial to Cambodia's war dead and to celebrate independence from foreign rule, the monument stands majestically on the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanouk Boulevard in the centre of the city. It is designed by the influential Cambodian modern architect Vann Molyvann in the form of a lotus-shaped stupa in the same style seen at the great Khmer temple at Angkor Wat and other Khmer historical sites.
Phsar Thmey (Central Market)
Phsar Thmey, also known as Central Market, is a unique colonial style building constructed in 1937. The location where the Central Market now sits was once a swamp area and occupied by a lake known as Beng Decho. Today, this beautiful market has become a prominent landmark in Phnom Penh. In the Khmer language, Phsar Thmey literally means ‘New Market’.

I went everywhere via tuk tuk or moto taxi and never paid more than $1 for a trip. Sometimes the tuk tuks on the riverfront will insist on $2 for a short journey.
Phnom Penh is not a place to wander around alone late at night, even around the tourist areas. Cambodia is a much poorer country than Thailand, and reports of incidents against tourists/expats often are suppressed in the news.
Street 136
Some ladies in the Phnom Penh hostess bars are only there for lady drinks, particularly the prettier ladies under 25 years old. It's best to know the score before you start buying them loads of drinks. Other times some girls will only go with Asian customers (eg. Korean, Japanese).
I heard a story about a Phnom Penh hostess bar where a Western guy bought a nice hostess 5 lady drinks, but in the end she wouldn't go to his hotel as she was only a drinks girl. He was really pissed off and was telling everyone about it...

YES, we're back! To kickoff season two of the Oakland Urban Dining Guide we visited Phnom Penh House Cambodian restaurant in the Chinatown district of Oakland. Needless to say this episode is packed with all kinds of season 2 opening day excitement. This was the first time any of us had tried Cambodian food and the result was decidedly...perfect. We tried as many different plates as we could without exploding. We went up and down the stack starting with basic egg rolls, moving into a papaya salad, charbroiled beef skewers, duck curry, green beans with peppers, pan friend noodles, some other amazing stuff and finished it off with a delicious banana and ice cream desert. To complement the food both the tea and the water (yes the water) were very refreshing. We also have to give a huge thanks to our waiter, Ty. Not only was Ty a great waiter he also was very excited to open up and tell us the Phnom Penh House Story and by the end of the night I think it's safe to say that we had made a new friend. Alright folks, that's it! OUDG SEASON 2. Enjoy!
Cambodian Street Food - GIANT GRILLED SQUID and MEAT MARATHON in Phnom Penh, Cambodia!

On this Cambodian street food tour of Phnom Penh, I’ll be taking you along to Phnom Penh’s Central Market (Psar Thmei), and a landmark in the center of the city. The market itself is not too impressive in my opinion unless you’re looking for jewelry or overpriced clothes, but the street food court and market on the outside is where you want to be.
There’s an abundance of Cambodian Khmer food and Vietnamese food available at the food court of Central Market, and there’s so much to choose from that it can be challenging to decide where to eat. The colorful selection of herbs and vegetables lead me to the bun rieu noodle stall, a Vietnamese crab noodle dish. We first enjoyed a delicious bowl of bun rieu with all the herbs and chilies we wanted. Bun rieu - 7,000 KHR ($1.70)
On the edge of the market you’ll find some huge grilled squid, and it’s incredibly tempting. I thought it was a little expensive (possibly overcharged), but nevertheless, it was amazingly delicious. Giant grilled squid - $8 USD
Next up you’ll see lots of fruit shake vendors at Central Market in Phnom Penh, I had a durian avocado, and it was amazingly delicious. Durian avocado shake - 6,000 KHR ($1.46)
Cambodian oysters as they are known, but really some type of cockle are a common Cambodian street food in Phnom Penh. They are sun dried and they are actually quite tasty. Clams - 4,000 KHR ($0.97)
Yee-ay Sok Sor - sach ko ang jakak (grilled lemongrass skewers), this place was amazing for their Cambodian grilled lemongrass marinated meat skewers in baguettes. Total price - 36,500 KHR ($8.87)
Dried buffalo (sach krobei) - We had a little miscommunication and ended up ordering quite a bit of dried buffalo. The good news is that it was incredible delicious, and so we were happy to have that much! Price - 55,000 KHR ($13.37) for ½ kg.
Our final stop on this Cambodian street food tour of Phnom Penh, we walked around towards the Old Market, and bumped into a grilling meat stall that was too good to pass up. It wasn’t planned, but today turned into a Cambodian grilled meat marathon. Total meat price - 27,000 KHR ($6.56), Soursop fruit shake - 4,000 KHR ($0.97).
Cambodian has amazing street food, and Phnom Penh is a truly exciting city to eat in!
