ALBANIA: TIRANA: ALBANIANS MOURN DEATH OF MOTHER TERESA
English/Nat
The people of Albania have been mourning the death of Mother Teresa.
Mother Teresa, although born in Skopje, Macedonia, was of Albanian descent.
The Albanian Prime Minister had expressed his country's wish to bury her, but the state government of West Bengal in India said that Mother Teresa would be buried in Calcutta following her funeral on Saturday.
Flags in Albania have been flying at half-mast in memory of Mother Teresa.
The country has been mourning, along with the rest of the world the death of a woman who did so much for the poor and sick. However, the death of Mother Teresa has special significance in Albania as she was of Albanian descent.
Government ministers along with members of the public have been paying their last respects at the Cultural Centre in Tirana, the capital of Albania.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
'I think that it's a great loss the death of Mother Teresa. She's a great Albanian and no doubt the roots of her great soul can be backed in the roots of a great soul of a great people like Albanian people.'
SUPER CAPTION: Arta Dade, Albanian Cultural Minister
Although an Indian citizen for decades the people of Albania will always remember Mother Teresa as their own.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
'The very message the Albanian people gets is the message of national reconciliation, is the message of tolerance is the message of solidarity.'
SUPER CAPTION: Arta Dade, Albanian Cultural Minister
Born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia, on August 26, 1910,
her father Nikola was an Albanian refugee and building contractor.
When her father died, nine-year-old Gonxha, as she was called, increasingly fell under the influence of her deeply religious mother, Dronda.
Both the mother and sister of Mother Teresa are buried in a graveyard in Tirana.
The Albanian Prime Minister Fatos Nano had expressed a wish that the nun would also be buried in the Eastern European country but the Indian authorities have chosen Calcutta as her final resting place.
People have been laying flowers and lighting candles near the buildings of the three missions opened by Mother Teresa in Albania shortly after the fall of the Stalinist regime.
Special masses have also been said by the Roman Catholic minority in a country which is officially an Islamic Balkan nation.
Prime Minister Fatos Nano said that the whole state would join in and pay full tribute to the nation's 'greatest mother'.

LEADIN:
Tunisians have been celebrating moulid at the zawiya of Sidi Bou Said.
The historic building has been renovated since an arson attack caused damage to its structure.
STORYLINE:
The zawiya of Sidi Bou Said is packed and the atmosphere is festive.
Dozens of people are gathered in this old sufi lodge to celebrate moulid, the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.
And like many celebrations, singing is a key part of the event.
The moulid is our love for our Prophet. We sing here in Sidi Bou Said, and it's about brotherhood, friendship and love, says Jamel Mlayah, a sheikh of Sidi Bou Said's zawiya.
Prayers are recited and an imam recounts details of the Prophet's life.
The sound of women ululating echoes through the rooms.
And the crowd joins together for a series of Islamic chants.
Moulid is celebrated across most of the Muslim world.
This year, it falls close to the Christian holiday of Christmas.
It's the first time I've come. In Tunisia, it's special, it's also a family holiday during which the whole family gets together. It's like Christmas for the Christians or other religious holidays, says Elias Slim, a Tunis resident.
The zawiya of Sidi Bou Said was the target of an arson attack in January 2013.
No one has been caught for the crime, but locals raised money to repair the damage.
And the renovations unearthed some surprising discoveries.
After it was burned down, we discovered columns from the 12th century that were hidden under the walls. So they (the arsonists) thought they'd done well but we're the ones who won! says Elham Ben Ammar, Vice-President of the Association for the Preservation of Sidi Bou Said's Monuments.
Since reopening, the building has hosted celebrations for the moulid, Eid feasts and the Islamic New Year.

Lynns Crossing Railroad Trestle
A photo & video compilation taken at Lynns Crossing of the historic trestle which served the Mary Lee Railroad and the L&N's Birmingham Mineral Railroad from the early 1900's to the late 1970's when it was abandoned. This line served the coal mines in West Jefferson County such as Flat Top, Bessie, Palos, Labuco, Praco & Maxine. The original route took it in a northwesterly direction from the L&N's Boyles Yard in Birmingham in a route of over 30 miles through rough hilly terrain. It took many years to construct this rail line. The active rail line running under the Lynns Crossing Trestle was formerly Southern Railways now Norfolk Southern. The trestle is in remarkably good shape for its age and hopefully will remain intact.

Also - with the artists and teachers from Damascus who care about the fate of their country. By filming and publishing the documentary military footage - we demonstrate that war is a terrible evil. We advocate for the protection of the peace and life on Earth, and for the preservation of the architectural monuments for our descendants.

Dr. Shefki Hysa and Mrs. Florjana Koka inaugurate the bust of Hillary Clinton in Saranda, Albania
Diplomatic Mission Peace and Prosperity in collaboration with the Municipality of Saranda, Albania inaugurated the bust of US Senator Hillary Clinton to mark her contribution in the international arena for the Albanian nation.
The sculpture of the former U.S. Secretary of State on the main boulevard along the shore was placed due to her dimension as a woman in politics, as a representative of the old Albania-U.S. friendship, for her contribution to the Albanian nation in different historical moments.
The bust was worked by Albanian sculptor Idriz Balani, upon the initiative of Diplomatic Mission Peace and Prosperity. A special contribution was given by Mr. Pjetër Nikolli and his company Kthella sh.p.k, who sponsored the bust on behalf of DMPP.

During the ceremony Dr. Shefki Hysa was honored by the American President Barack Obama with the Lifetime Achievement Award accompanied by the Presidential Golden Eagle Medal. The award by the US president was a great appreciation of DMPP work over the years as an institution in the service of global peace!
Serbia: Flag-carrying DRONE sparks clashes at Serbia-Albania game
Video ID: 20141015-007
Fighting broke out at the Partizan Stadium in Belgrade on Tuesday during a game between Serbia and Albania in the qualifiers of the Euro 2016 championship. Confrontations were triggered by the flight of a small drone carrying the flag of 'Greater Albania,' which shows parts of Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia , together with Albania, as one country.
Serbian defender Stefan Mitrovic grabbed the flag from the device, sparking a chain of chaos with Albanian player Bekim Balaj running with it across the pitch, as players launched themselves at him. Some fans ran onto the field to join the scuffles, while others threw objects from the stands.
Serbian media say that the drone was controlled by the brother of the Albanian prime minister Edi Rama, from the VIP section. Reports that he was arrested at the stadium are unconfirmed.
'Greater Albania' includes Kosovo, which contains a large Albanian population and used to be part of Serbia until its independence in 2008. The match was abandoned after 41 minutes, by which time neither side had yet scored a goal. Many Albanian fans had been prevented from attending the game due to security concerns.
